Right.  And if those guys all hit their potential like Colorado's guys did, you'd have:

Top 10 centre:  Petey

Top 10 defenceman:  Hughes

Top 10 defensive centre:  Horvat

Top 5 goaltender:  Demko

Top 10 power forward:  Podkolzin

That's on top of supporting cast game breaking snipers like Boeser, Lekkerimaki, etc.

And who knows what levels guys like Hoglander, Kuzmenko, Rathbone, etc. could reach as supporting players.

There's LOTS to like about this Canucks squad.

Looks like Benning built us a pretty good core group.

Yeah, I think pretty much all of us are saying that lmao.

What indication was there that they'd be a powerhouse?  Nathan MacKinnon led the team in scoring.  He was in his 4th year in the league as a 1st OA pick and had 53 points in 82 games.  He looked like he was gonna be a run of the mill top 6 forward at the time.  Their 2nd highest scorer was Matt Duchene.  Hitting his prime and scoring 41 points in 77 games didn't scream POWERHOUSE to anybody in the hockey world hahaha

They were being hyped because they were already a strong team with O’Reilly, Duchene, and Landeskog.

It was more like after that 13-14 season they were being hyped as a powerhouse. The following seasons that hype pretty much faded.

Not until they drafted Makar did they really enter the “powerhouse” conversation again.

Yup, the 3 years leading up to the Makar era were abysmal.  It was pretty much a joke of a franchise for those few years.  Nobody was hyping anything about the MacKinnon lead Avalanche at that point.

Yep they basically just became a team that couldn’t get it done until Makar came on the scene in the 19-20 season and completely changed their trajectory.

the 2011 core started to emerge around 2007, but Gillis sold everything to make the one push and that window slammed shut.  They should have had at least two more legitimate shots at the Cup, which would have put them right around 6-7 years to win.

Gillis took the shot. We were the favourites to win in 2011. And it didn’t happen. Which is further proof to the point I have already made which is that when you get a chance to win it all you take the shot.  Because you don’t know when you will ever get the chance again.

Exactly.

No team can ever assume they have a big window. It’s all about your next best chance.

If management pisses away the next 5 years because we weren’t “real contenders” they’re passing up opportunities to win it all. You’ve got one of the best goalies in the league in his prime. Your window is built around him.

Im not saying go all in this offseason. But there needs to be an aggressive plan to start contending in the next 2-3 years.

What injuries derailed his plan?

Pretty sure his contracts were bad because they were bad, not because of injuries.

We were literally praying every night that Loui would somehow not be in the lineup the next game. The dude couldn’t even break his finger nail never mind a bone or two in his body.

We are a better team with Miller than without him. If we can somehow manage to add 2 or 3 more pieces we will have a team that can contend.

If we take the shot and win the cup then I don’t really care how much we are paying Miller and for how long is his contract. Does it really matter if we win the cup?

Thinking Pearson and Hoglander could be traded as a package, and then they'll re-sign Miller and Horvat.

Boudreau has given a strong vote of confidence in JT, and if they want playoffs, they're going to need him.

McDavid, Draisaitl, Kane for EDM, Kadri, Huberdeau now in the division. Zegras and McTavish for ANA. In the Central there are 5 teams that could get in.

Thankfully the Canucks have Boudreau as their coach and I think he'll have everyone ready for Game 1.

Kuzmenko - Miller - Garland

Podkolzin - Pettersson - Boeser

Mikheyev - Horvat - Lazar

Dickinson - Joshua - Lockwood

OEL - Hughes

X - Myers

Rathbone - Schenn

Dermott

Burroughs

(Poolman)

I like the idea of trading Pearson and Höglander to free up cap space. Maybe we can get a decent RHD for them. If we trade Pearson then we should go after Rodrigues as the 3C and play Miller and Petey together.

Miller.          Pettersson   Boeser

Kuzmenko   Horvat         Podkolzin

Mikheyev.    Rodrigues   Garland

Given JR’s history with Pearson he could be the one traded so we have the cap space next year for Miller and Horvat.

Even if he performs like a 5-6 million dollar player through most of the contract that’s still a good player. As long as he doesn’t fall off a cliff like Loui it’s not the end of the world if he performs below his value.

I can think of other fat to trim in the lineup that would help us improve before trading Miller.

Think about if we could get a great value D man for Pearsons 3.25 mil or hell even a D man for 5 mil if we cut Poolman and Dickinson’s combined 5.1 mil.

There are other creative options that need to be explored further before we make a hasty trade.

For everyone with the endless trade Miller proposals.....this^

Pearson and Garland would be two players who should have positive value in a trade where we can free up over $8 million to re-sign both Miller and Horvat as well as Kuzmenko next summer.

Next summer is the time we can go all in on a top RHD who can play with Hughes. If Rathbone can be a regular this year and he plays like he did in Abby last year then we can flip him for a comparable RHD. Rathbone and Garland as a package as well as Pearson and Höglander as a package should be enough to get us a couple decent quality RHD next summer.

Not totally different as both teams are looking at windows of contention.

If anything it just makes the argument stronger to sign Miller as the Canucks window is just opening up whereas Calgary’s will likely close much sooner and that contract won’t have many years to provide value.

How so...window of contention for Vancouver has NOT even started yet! Need to make the playoffs for that ball to start rolling

Its a post from November 2021? Why are so many people relying..BIG RUMOUR????

This is only recent talks about Vancouver..Nothing about Miller..While his name has been connected to several clubs over the last few weeks, including the Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks, there are a number of teams in the mix. According to his agent Darren Ferris, who spoke with ESPN, “a good seven or eight” teams are having discussions with Rodrigues’ camp. Ferris went on to explain that while there appear to be a few good fits for his client, teams are dealing w

Big rumour back in November 2021..

We need RD man not a winger...

No Miller rumours being talked about...

Maybe Miller rumours will start more serious between September 15  to October 10th before season starts..
