No more than 7.5 for 5 years.

He has scored more than a point a game in 2 seasons

His career points per game are .712

He will be 30 when his next deal starts.

I would not pay him like  a 100 point guy- which he did not actually do

I would not pay him like a point a game guy- which he has done on two occasions, out of 7 full seasons

Career year, not going to be repeated.

Seldom hits a point per game, might get that for a couple of years-might.

Most likely to drop down to his career average area.

Good solid player- not a great player. Should not get great money, and certainly not for a long term.

Well, if other gms think like you, don't expect much of a return for him.

Still, he's a better player than Kadri, who just signed a 7x7 contract at 31yrs.

Imo, your valuation of JT is very low.

They had similar production last year and Nazem averages about 1.5 points per game less than JT over his career. Based on Kadri getting 7x7 I think 7.5x8 is fair for JT.

I think he'd certainly consider signing for something like that ($60m) on a US team, with lower taxes, closer to contending, and closer to his home.

Don't think he's signing that here. I think here, he likely want $8x8 ($64) at minimum.

Also don't think we should be offering him anything like that....$8x6 ($48m) or $9.5x5 ($47.5m) are about the max we should be offering. That +/-$15m difference is the reason he's not signed yet (and IMO won't be).

would you really be happy with that deal? another 3rd pairing d and another top 9 winger? We might be able to develop Necas into a functioning C but right now that looks like a bit of a long shot, we'd have to be happy with him as maybe a 2nd line winger as his ceiling.

I actually don't mind Necas, multiple 40 point seasons (one in only 53 games), also big+fast. Good young middle 6 player with tools & upside. More intriguing than Chytil anyways.

Bear doesn't do anything for us. Prospects/picks could work instead.

Playing around on Capfriendly looking at contracts for $7M and over for players who signed at 29+ years old. This doesn’t include contracts that kick in next year but offhand Huberdeau is the only one that comes to mind.

good point, I've certainly seen worse proposals. Feels a bit underwhelming.

I wish we still had Malholtra to teach the kid face offs.

That is what Bo and Miller should be doing after practice is getting our C's better at faceoffs.

Talk about a perfect matchup 3C. He was a beast both for us & SJ the year prior.

It's a shame his tenure was cut short by the injury. His loss is an underrated part of that team falling short imo

I think Lazar is (mentally) in the same spot in his career that Malholtra was when we got him.  Both were higher first round picks who needed to accept, and develop, a different role than as a scorer to have an NHL career.  I see Lazar being really good for us.

Good comparison.

Malhotra was more accomplished by age 27 but Lazar seems to be carving out a role for himself in similar fashion for sure.

The fact that we got him for 3 years for cheap when he’s just entering his prime could end up being a really good bargain.

Would be nice if he can build off those offensive numbers from last season too. If he could get to 10 goals and 15 assists while playing a physical role that would be awesome.
