thanks thats a good explanation.

So, for the same $ would you keep Pearson or sign Tierney?

Oh Pearson by a damn sight, if they cost the same money. But I would imagine Pearson should get a fair amount more.

Tierney or Paul would be great pick ups if they are on decent value deals.  I do think that Dickenson could have a bit of a bounce back next year, but it would be prudent not to completely count on it and have another C ready to roll.  You really can't have too many centres as most of them can play wing and slide over in case of injury or to take draws on their strong sides.

I don't hold any numbers against a guy playing on a team like Ottawa, they made it clear that Tierney wasn't in their future for a couple of years and wanted to give the ice time to the kids.  If he didn't get traded at the last couple deadline maybe it means there isn't a huge market for his services and a 1-2 year $2 million deal would do the trick.

If we could keep Boeser and move out Hoglander with Dickenson... there could be roster spots to deepen the forward core.

Petterson-Miller-Boeser
Pearson-Horvat-Garland
Paul-Tierney-Podkolzin
Highmore-Lammikko-Lockwood
Chiasson

For the love of God, Pearson is not a second line player.

Sign low, perfect time. He's got the frame and skillset, has just been on a brutal team but he plays a hard game we need.

See if we can low ball him for 2M x 3 years. Flip Dickinson for picks.

Tierney is the perfect 3C who can play a defensive game and take shutdown responsibility from Bo. Play him with Chiasson and Hoglander and that's a pretty versatile line.

The other options are Paul, Janmark and Jarnkrok but Tierney is relatively young and maybe a bit better at faceoffs and defensively. Almost like a poor man's Horvat which is perfect.

He is on many teams still.

I don’t know if you are aware… we aren’t a deep contending team, and won’t be for some time.  Most teams end up with big duos on lines and then a complementary player.  It is an artifact of the salary cap.

They play on a line for 5v5 but get fewer minutes than their linemates because they don’t get all the prime special teams minutes.

Burrows, Hansen, etc weren’t really top six players.  They were complementary guys that were able to play those minutes without hurting you and/or have the ability to play with high skill

guys.

Same as Schenn isn’t a top 4 D man… but he plays with Hughes 5v5 because he complements him.  They are on a pairing together but Hughes ends up with 25 minutes a night and Schenn plays 17 minutes a night.

Would be great. I really think Dickinson is untradeable though...

THAT SAID, they moved Hamonic so anything's possible?

He would be instant upgrade on Dickie for sure (even from Dickie's last year in Dallas), but I don't think it's gonna be as simple as flipping Dickie for picks. His value is very low right now.
