There are very few teams with no cap mistakes of any kind. Colorado may be the only one but even they are going to run into some hard choices and potential mistakes soon.

I get the frustration with 'ol Jimbo, but do we really need to keep re-hashing it constantly? as soon as Myers can be flipped for a better top 4 d man, we actually have a nicely balanced cap situation with maybe OEL being a mil or so overpaid.

OEL isn't even overpaid given the recent UFA contracts.  He's better than Nurse and way, way better than Rielly, where Dubas paid 7.5 mil long term for AHL trash.

I remember what Benning said after he overpaid to stupidly acquire OEL.  Benning said he remembered watching OEL play when his Bruin’s team would play the Coyotes and thought that if OEL played in the east (where more people could see him) tjat he would win the Norris.  So did Benning even use his pro scouts, or did he go on what he saw in players?  Benning, IMHAO, was extremely arrogant when it came to his scouting abilities - whether with prospects or pros.

We traded 3 duds and magic beans for OEL and Garland and if OEL is overpaid it’s by a mill max and I don't think he's overpaid at all.

There are enough things to fault Benning for so no need to make any up.

Quite arrogant of you to suggest I am wrong. :bigblush:

Not how that works at all, and I never said you were wrong.

Just arrogant of you to assume you’re right and everyone else is wrong.

There is a difference in those statements and you know that.

By everyone else I mean a lot of CDC.

But that's just CDC, if you go to a different board you'll have different opinions.

The people on CDC are special :)

Again doesn’t automatically make you right and everyone else wrong.

agreed.

Just making the point that if we could upgrade Myers, the cap balance is pretty solid. Even with him its not that bad. Once the dead buyout cap is gone and if we can move Pearson e.g. we're in good shape even with Myers.

Everyone gets fired in this job. That doesn’t prove much of anything.

So the GM wasn't bad because his results were ass.

And he also isn't bad 'cause he got fired for said ass results.

Alright then.

Jack Adams winning coaches get fired, Even elite GM’s eventually get fired. Ken Holland HoF GM is one first round exit from being fired. So yes a post about a GM getting fired is virtually meaningless.

Ken Holland at least has a resume, in the past anyway. He's a terrible GM, as well, at least in the cap era.

Benning has/had accomplished nothing and his overall results with the Canucks were awful.

If Benning had done/won/accomplished anything during his tenure you may have had a case.

Won a cup as an assistant GM you think he sat on his hands? The no resume talk is straight bulls***.

Literally the Benning apologist motto right here: "it's not that bad"

It's just a little 2nd round pick, it's still good, it's still good.

It's just a little overpayment, it's still good, it's still good.

It's just a little bit too much term, it's still good, it's still good.

When are you are in fierce competition with 31 other teams, you cannot be content with mistakes even if they are not major because they add up. Yes, no GM/team goes without mistakes but at a certain point they are insurmountable. We ought to have higher expectations.

There's a major difference between being the assistant and the guy.

Maybe he was a good assistant GM, hard to say (although a lot of Boston's pieces can be attributed to Gorton).

Doesn't magically make him a good GM and doesn't magically mean he did a good job here.

Saying he has no resume is factually incorrect. He had and still does have a pretty decent resume and has done enough to deserve a shot with another team too. To say anything otherwise proves your bias against him.

Literally the only people who think Benning is a good GM or will ever get hired again as a GM (without doing something else first and working his way back up, maybe) are a select group of Canucks fans. That's it, because he's considered a joke around the rest of the league.

Other teams' fans went from hating us because we were good about a decade ago to feeling sorry for us for what we were being put through.

Again more bull s*** blanket statements. Many acknowledged his good moves too. And he will have another job somewhere in the NHL in some form should he want to pursue one.
