It's based on the time spent on the NHL roster the previous season.  He didn't play any games but was on the team for 39 days, which for a cap hit of 750K translates to a pro-rated cap for SOIR of 146'250.

CapFriendly has the previous season's time spent on the roster under 'Archives/past cap payrolls':  https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/cap-tracker/canucks/2022

Also worth pointing out that tomorrow they can move di guisuppe to LTIR, freeing up that 146,250 as well, giving them enough space to send down Klimovich and recall Karlsson even while Mikheyev, Myers, and Dermott are all still counting against the cap

Something we have seen from the new management team is savvy cap usage and this proves yet again that they know what they're doing. JB flung the cap around like a child but Allvin and co. have been very conservative with it.

You have to maximise cap usage if you want to win, Tampa did it very sneakily to get 2 cups.they

JB did fine under the circumstances, when he came aboard this team was a disaster, no one could have fixed it, we didn't even have a farm when he arrived and a broken team with a shi_load of long term contracts from MG.

Sounds like you listen to the lame Vancouver a bit too much..

Title thread should read:

"Canucks spend to the cap again!   But this time they aren't borrowing future cap"

That's the headline.   Baby-steps!   JB spending to the cap and trying to create some buzz to keep butts in seats (a cup is the "goal", but as a manager - profits matter ... more) ruined what could have been, a better rebuild.    Don't mind that Allvin is taking his time at all.    Not sure about Ilya M, that's an expensive contract.   Hope they did their homework.   Starting with an injury gives me some "Sutter" vibes.

The rest is par.   Brocks deal, phew imagine that those freaking out over his qualifying offer hopefully see some reason now.   He's now a tradeable asset.  Tick that box.

Miller.  No WAY he signs for less then 9... maybe 10 even! ... and Schnieder, a first and Kakko and the sun, moon and stars is what he's worth!    Fans that thought that ... well think again, also told you so lol, sorry couldn't help myself.    There was no deal on the table worth trading Miller last deadline.

Next up Horvat.   For SURE his contract is going to be 56 or more right?   At least what Miller got.    YTD.   Like Brock and Miller i think we should reserve judgement.   And well if we trade him ... That's hockey and don't expect much, he's a rental.   A lottery ticket, a roster player back to make cap work, and something to talk about in our prospect pool.   Same as what it would have been with Miller, or less.     Bet he signs 7 x 8 without protection OR 6.5 x 8 with trade protection.    If he doesn't.  Let's hope we use that pick wisely, and this prospect is NHL ready.

To me this team is close.   But don't like the idea of borrowing from Peter to pay Paul (trading Horvat for say Severson plus a little maybe).   Would rather we sign Horvat and let things play out organically.    This team should get better over time still.    And think playoff's need to be the goal every year over the next 7-8 or so.    COL was a total fluke.    Don't expect that by going back into rebuild mode.   So many things occurred, that Sakic wouldn't of had any foresight on, unless he is actually a god.

Well he was a hockey god.   Sakic/Forsberg.   Miller/EP.   Well yikes we sure ain't that either.

That is awesome. It's things like this that reinforce my trust in the new front office here in Vancouver. That looks like some Gilman level shit right there.

is Weisbrod working for Edmonton now? their lineup had 11 forwards due to cap :emot-parrot:

Depends on the timeline of his injury.  LTIR is minimum 10 games or 24 days.

CapFriendly doesn't show him on LTIR.  Klimovich has a higher cap hit than Dries - ie they didn't need anyone to go on LTIR for the swap.
