Goaltending has  been terrible all year including Demko since the beginning of the season. It had a lot to do with our start.  I can’t recall many teams getting through 50 or 60 games with two minor league goaltenders and coming out with a winning record. I just think that it’s hard to properly assessed this roster with us bleeding goals like this.

Demko was playing near Vezina caliber last year before his injury and they STILL couldn't make the playoffs.  The AAA chances this team gives up is baffling, its either they dont care and just looking to stat pad and get paid or they are incapable of basic team defense.  Probably a little of both, how many coaches cant fix this god awful PK.  That is a clear and obvious sign.

He got us to the playoffs legitimately with the Sedin's aging and less talent than this current roster has

It's funny, the Desjardins era was actually better than the last season and a half

We knew we weren't good but at least those teams had heart

Well that was putrid.

Hopefully just the emotions of the past couple weeks catching up with them. Seattle is a better team, but they looked like they were in a completely different league than us tonight. The Canucks aren't THAT bad, and we'll see some closer losses down the stretch.

The team is giving the opposition way too many 2 on 1's and 3 on 2's... not to mention giving the puck away in their zone... that is nothing to do with goaltending.

A goalie who is facing that kind of challenge is going to let in goals... no matter how good they are.

Demko made the team look good last season... he should have won the Vezina.

But in the process he destroyed himself physically and was not ready this year.

I totally agree it’s not all on goaltending but assuming you played some hockey you know how it goes… Getting bailed out by your goaltender really affects the mojo of your team. The team has no confidence or identity right now. The MVP is on the shelf and they’re feeling it.

Hey, there’s no denying huge portions of this roster requires a serious overhaul. But be careful not to overcompensate for great goaltending. Lots of awesome teams have gone deep in the playoffs and won cups riding a hot goalie.

At this point they are better off trading Demko in the offseason.  He's already showing signs of his body breaking down from the wear and tear, plus he will probably age out before we are any good.  Find a decent 2.5million dollar goalie on a 1 year deal in the offseason and ride with them and Martin next year.

Apparently they are !  There are 26 teams with better records and only 5 with worse, so it seems that they are bad.

And he cried when he left just like Bruce but people were cruel, cold, and heartless.

Willie wasn't hated for who he was though imo

He was a genuine dude who did his best, I'm glad he got his shot at the bigs

That was the closer to the beginning of the decline

No, but people were still cruel and heartless though. Interesting contrast

He was a good dude who did his best. It was obvious he cared.

He also won the cup as a GM with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.  He joined them in 1994 so he spent 12 years building that team into a champion.

Carolina was a bubble team that year... it didn't even make the playoffs the next year.

Carolina also rode another rookie goalie to the Cup... Cam Ward... who won the Conn Smythe in 2006 and then basically faded in the rest of his career.

Hurricanes also had an easy path to the finals... their only challenging series was against New Jersey... who were a dwindling force after their 2003 win.

The rest of the series, except against Montreal in the opener,  they faced upset winners who were brought back to reality.

Also, our defence and goaltending was much better then.

Edler, Tanev, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Sbisa, Weber, Stanton > OEL, Myers, Hughes, Schenn, Stillman, Bear, Burroughs.

Miller, Lack, Markstrom > Demko, Martin, Delia.

He did, he deserved better

But that's this market, it's a tough market to lose in
