I don't believe any details regarding the length of the suspension have been published. It is possible that he will be free to play the entire season next year and also possible that it may be a full calendar year suspension, as you alluded to. I'm hoping for the former, but fair is fair if it is the calender year.

odds are good that he'll be back to start the season. Remember, he dropped out mid semester, he wasn't suspended. This was most likely a plea deal type of thing. So they wouldn't let him back mid semester, they'd do it at the beginning

Kinda pumped to see what this guy does this year. If he turns into another gem I'll really start having faith in our defense picks

looking at his play at the highest level he's reached so far, no reason to think he wont be a gem. a lot like torey krug. if he can transcend the set backs and get back to it, we'll definitely have a good one on our hands.

Good to hear.

Hopefully he took advantage of his time off by getting bigger and stronger, and working on some of his puck skills.

only saw one report randomly during his suspension that he was practicing with an EJHL team. we have to hope he worked out hard, and the next two seasons at harvard are enough to keep his developement on track. would like to see his offensive flare on the back end to be around for awhile.

If you read that article it says McNally took the year off as he was too old for junior

Here's McNally's write up from the Hockey Prospectus review of our prospect pool:

10. Patrick McNally, Defense
2011-12 Ranking: 7th
Date of birth: 12/04/1991
Age: 21
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 190
Shoots: Left
Statistics: 7 GP, 1 G, 3 P (Harvard, NCAA)
Acquired: Fourth round, 115th overall in 2010 by Vancouver

Year in Review: McNally missed most of the season due to a suspension by Harvard.

The Good: McNally is a really gifted offensive player with a lot of tools. He is a high-end skater and puck handler who can really dazzle with his skill. He also flashes high-end vision. His top speed and acceleration are great, and while he can weave in and out of traffic, he can also slow the play down. McNally has a big shot from the point.

The Bad: McNally's main issue has always been his defense. He has good hockey sense in terms of creativity, but his reads and risk averseness are not impressive, as he frequently can be caught out of position. The suspension and significant missed time are obvious knocks as well.

Projection: He could be a third pairing defenseman, a power play specialist with an outside chance of being a top-four player.

A bit of a make or break year for him. He really has to show some worth to have a chance at the pro level after last year's issues.

I'm including the AHL, mainly with a focus on if he can become better in his own end since his offence is already very good. He could end up being another Kevin Connauton for us though, that fails to make the next step and even dominate at the AHL level. If he doesn't bounce back from basically a year off, it will likely be an issue worth noting.

He played his first game last finished with a solid plus 2.

Players Nikolaj Ehlers have been compared too by the fan base of the Vancouver Canucks.

1 Pavel Bure

2 Markus Naslund

3 Nathan Mackkinon

5 Jonathan Tavares

Kevin Connauton has so far played 1 game for Dallas this season

Fixed that for you. It's not like we're 70+ games in already, it's early and at least he's gotten his first NHL action in. He could get more before the year's done.

Nauts had a solid finish to the game after a shakey first period. I wish we still had him.

Including one year of AHL McNally (a sophomore at Harvard this year) has 4 season left to impress. As long as we see good progress each year I'll be happy

People are still talking about Connauton?

Tanev, Stanton and Corrado are better for this team.

I recall reading somewhere that he isn't allowed to play until November or December.

Yup he has to miss the first 7 games for some reason, likely to match up with the games he did play last year.

Tyson Giuriato ‏@TysonGiuriato
Has to sit out 7 games. Will return on Nov 16 "RT @joshweissbock: @TysonGiuriato No McNally tonight?"

Sure hope this kid can overcome a lost year, it's the type of adversity that could develop a lot of character. Skill and size wise there's definitely upside, it'll be interesting to see if he can rise to the challenge.

If he is serious about going the pro hockey route he'd be out of there, looking more and more like he's a teacher in the making. Harvard have now played 1 game this season. Utica has played 6 and play some thing like 80 games ....not so much the NCAA. He's 21 now and has managed some thing like 30 games in 3 seasons, not good prep time.
