Did...did you read my post...?

I did.

You said:

GASP WATER

I've had Coke thrown on me after we ran out of tomatoes at McDonalds. This isn't a big deal. The dude is crazy, but this isn't an isolated occurrence as the article seems to think it is.

My response stands as written.

Perhaps you should have read the part that said "yet have no consequences for his behavior". Your "this isn't a big deal' "certainly leaves one with the impression that you don't think there should be any consequences............ it being "no big deal" and all.

One of my old textbooks describes assault as enacting unwanted force onto a person, or something like that.
It was stretched to include when someone spit on a person. Now, because we live in such a litigious society, anyone that does something that upsets you can be identified with this nonsense.

Someone yelled at you? Verbal Assault.
Someone got angry? Intimidation.
Threw some water at you? Bam, Assault.

The dude is crazy. He obviously should have consequences. Like I said, I've had pop thrown on me, after this guy has been yelling at me. You think I didn't want something to happen to them?

What I meant by "no big deal", is that it's not worth a newspaper article. Also, not worth a police call. I'd rather put it behind me. crap happens. You work in the service industry. You are going to get yelled at. More than once. This stuff happens daily in restaurants. The best idea is to not get involved in a lawsuit, over something minor in the spectrum of bad things that could happen. If the worst thing that could happen to you is that someone is visibly angry at you, for something that is not your fault, don't work in the service industry. You need to be able to stay calm, handle the situation, and get your manager involved if need be.

From the Criminal Code of Canada:

265. (1) A person commits an assault when

(a) without the consent of another person, he applies force intentionally to that other person, directly or indirectly;

(b) he attempts or threatens, by an act or a gesture, to apply force to another person, if he has, or causes that other person to believe on reasonable grounds that he has, present ability to effect his purpose

So the three of you find it perfectly acceptable that a 40 year old man can throw a temper tantrum, getting in the face of a woman, throwing water at her (fortunately it was water he reached for instead of a hot cup of coffee) while swearing and yelling at her, physically intimidating her because there is no cream in the building yet have no consequences for his behavior. Hmmm, says an awful lot about you if you do and I feel sorry for any woman involved in any way, shape or form in your life.

Childish behavior condoned by children.

I shouldn't be surprised really, but I bet you'd feel differently if it were your sister, your mother, your girlfriend or wife on the receiving end of such behavior. Or maybe not, if you consider this man's actions acceptable and non-consequence worthy.

When I read the first few posts I was alarmed at their reactions and was surprised no one had said anything in defense of the police/barista... so thank you for not having to make me rant against everyone!

What he did was absolutely unacceptable. As the article states, what do you think he would do if someone insulted him or rear-ended him? We'd probably be dealing with more dismembered bodies FFS.

would've found it more acceptable if it was done in the morning... and by a spoiled kid who didn't sleep the last night; a 40-year-old man? for running out of cream?

with his temper who knows? maybe he had high blood pressure already from overly stressing himself over small things like these, and she could've saved his heart the extra work or maybe even delayed a trip for his arteries to the hospital for not having cream.

Bert B said it best:

that's not manly behavior, esp. not because of coffee.

Wow some of u actually think throwing water in people's face is funny? How do u know it's just water? It's a form of biological attack. If a stranger throws what I believe is just water When it could actually have some disease in it as well. And then get into my eyes or open wound. That's why spitting is assault for the same reason. In fact charging up to someone aggressively and swearing or yelling is also assault. Try doing that to an officer and see how they react. Use your head.

People who drive pickups go to Starbucks?

I've seen everything at Starbucks, including trailer trash, ghetto thugs, bikers, you name it. It's not some exclusive upscale venue anymore, if it ever was one.

Honestly, this is not newsworthy.

One day, during work, a customer was pissed off at how he wasn't being served and that he waited for a long _______ time. He called my co-worker a __________ prick, claimed that my co-worker looked at him twice and ignored him. He was saying some other crap too - yes, he drove a pickup. Anyhow, my co-worker kept calm and figured out a way to make him happy and it became a non-issue.

I'm not saying that she deserved getting yelled at - absolutely not. It is wrong and out of line but this is indeed a waste of police resources.

So we are officially in a bit of a silly season, and in general I stay away from the completely crazy rumors that persist on the internet, or in the case of the Leafs having interest in Nabokov or Turco I will occasionally debunk them...however, I have been getting inundated with emails, PMs, and questions on twitter regarding a few rumors that are out there...so here goes.. I will address the rumors and follow with what I have or haven't heard...If you all like this format, maybe Wacky Wednesdays could be a regular feature. I wouldn't do it more than once a week, because I am too busy talking to actual sources and attempting to provide you all with as much unique information as possible.

Totally unacceptable, if that happened to me I would be shaken too, some random person raging over something so petty as cream. I'm pretty sure some of the above posters say something and when they get raged at they would freak too. All talk but no walk. That is assault, what if the water was hot which it probably was, lets see how you take it.

How do u know he didn't spit in it? And would u feel ok taking a chance he didn't?

There's a reason why it's assault. Throw a glass of water into an officers face.

Seriously, this sort of thing is common in bars and nothing much is ever done about it. I doubt that the police would be too interested in this, even if they were able to find this guy.

Most likely, he won't be welcome in that particular establishment again.
