[Signing] Shea Weber to Flyers (OFFERSHEET)

Recommended Posts

good news - Weber will either be staying in Nashville, or playing in the Eastern Conference in front of the league's worst playoff goaltender. Holmgren is getting difficult to guage - imo he he robbed CBJ and LA in the Carter and Richards deals, then huh, he used the cap space to sign Bryzgalov, and now is mortgaging a whole hell of a lot... I suppose I am one of the minority who is glad this was not Gillis cutting this deal - a captain who signs an offer sheet, for that term and cap hit, and a whack of 1st round picks - would much rather have Garrison at 4.6 for 6 years and no assets lost. Great moves, and non-moves so far this summer MG.

So everyone here thinks Gillis should have done this exact same move? How come 28 other teams didn't make an offer sheet then?

Funny how people say that Suter will hurt the Wild's franchise in the future, but somehow Weber wouldn't? Weber will not be worth 7.5 mil when he's 35, and with the cap probably going down it's gonna hurt whoever gets him.

It doesn't matter anyways, we couldn't have afforded him and GIllis would not offer him a 14 year contract.

Time to face reality people.

Umm sorry to let you know, the Canucks didn't trade for him. Philly did...This isn't about us trading for him.

Philly has recently drafted Giroux, Van Riemsdyk, Coutourier, and Laughton in the first round. I would not trade those 4 players for Weber.

And I wouldn't even trade Kassian, Jensen, Schroeder, and Gaunce for him either. Way to destroy the future for one player.

How many years are people going to use the Zetterberg Datsyuk argument? That happened once. Teams aren't drafting Zetterberg's and Datsyuks in the 7th round every year.

Nashville WILL match. We're talking about 4 LATE (26-30 range) first round picks. Nashville has the leverage here, IMO. Shea Weber can stay as a Predator for life or he can be traded a year later for a huge ransom.

All thanks to Philly for making a big move like that.

I'm sorry to let you know that Philly didn't trade for Weber either. They signed Weber to an offer sheet, which NSH has the right to match.

For all we know Weber will be a Predator for life as of tomorrow morning.

How many times are teams going to select a Shea Weber in the 2nd round of the draft? Not happening too often.

JVR has been traded away to TML and Couturier was a top 10 draft pick, it was a pick they got from CBJ in return for Carter.

Philly will not be finishing as one of the worst 10 teams in the league over the next 10 years with or without Weber. The picks will be anywhere from 25 to 30. I do that deal in a heart beat for Shea Weber.

Here is what Chris Pronger fetched as a post 30 year old Dman who was just getting past his prime. You think Weber at 26 and just hitting his prime isn't worth more? If so I respectfully disagree with your hockey knowledge. link attached.

The Anaheim Ducks have traded defenceman Chris Pronger and forwardRyan Dingle to the Philadelphia Flyers for defenceman Luca Sbisa, forwardJoffrey Lupul, two first-round picks and a conditional third-round pick

Edler, Raymond, 2 firsts for Weber. Then we can match and he would be ours. He must have been offered more by Nashville but was making a point by not signing with them. I am sure he could still be traded before the week is out.

point noted dude, I was half way through the thread when i seen Dregs twit :o 26 mil first year .

I still say it would be a huge loss to lose Webbs and Suter in one summer as others have said they still have to sell tickets .This would devastate there fans base. If they do not match what message does that send to them? bottom feeders for life.
