It makes no difference now as there will be no NHL hockey until X-Mass or even later. ABsolutely bummed out about it. Moving to Costa Rica for the winter.

I haven't had time to pay attention to that saga, so are you just speculating/guessing, or was there some sort of new breakdown that makes you say that?

Edit: Ahhhh, I see. Talks stalled. Well that's negotiation. The league doesn't want to look desperate to avoid a lockout, and neither do the players. There's lots of time to get the deal done. I'm still optimistic.

YES! Only 365 hours 12 minutes and 20 seconds until Doan signs somewhere. Who's excited?

Deadline for Doan to sign in Phoenix is September 1st if not he will be Canucks at Gillis offer at 4 years 24million.

So..Truth or just simply speculation?

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

They didn't say they would sign on the 15th, they said he would sign before the old CBA expires.

I would expect him to sign before that date if he knows the Coyote situation is far from being settled.

Doan is 35. Aren't there younger and cheaper guys we can go after via trade? Giving him 6m per year x4, assuming the cap stays at 70m per, is insane. I would offer 2 years at 6m, no more.

If you like looking at statistics to determine who's better, you're just a casual fan.

2.41 season GAA isn't very impressive. Let's not get into playoffs and his SV%.

Cory Schneider is the next Patrick Roy.

Yeah lets go for the "back up" plan because Doan is like not worth it maaaaan..
We go after some young cheaper guys who have little or no playoff experience over a proven stud veteran Captain who is tried, tested and true. Yup, lets go after a different route because its cheaper and the Canucks can't don't have capspace at all.

Your fooling yourself if you don't think Doan would make us instant CUP favorites by signing him to our club.
Yeah he's a bit on the higher side but thats what you have to be prepared to pay players of his caliber especially during free agency.

You want a cup don't you? Imagine Doan, Sedin, Sedin. That line would be better than Getzlaf, Perry & Ryan!

I wonder if Doan is conditioned. I mean in terms of the Canucks' standards, it seems newly acquired guys always have to get used to our tempo - with the exception of Samuelsson and Erhoff who come from successful teams like SJ and Detroit.

don't forget, one of his "decisions" might be

"I will not negotiate with any other teams until the cba is put into place. I thank all the teams for considering my services"

type of b.s That's probably one of his decisions.

Greg Jamison has finally arranged financing to purchase Coyotes from NHL for $170 million. Burnside http://ESPN.Com

A source confirmed to ESPN.com Tuesday evening that suitor Greg Jamison, the former president and CEO of the San Jose Sharks, has finally arranged financing that would allow him to purchase the team from the National Hockey League for $170 million, and that any issues with the lease agreement between the City of Glendale and Jamison's investors for Jobing.com Arena, where the Coyotes play, are expected to be resolved by the end of September.

Is there still not the issue of having money to run the team?

Or does the rest of the NHL just take responsibility for that.

Jamison is going to get his legs broken by the investors that leant him a majority of this money. Whatever profit Jamison makes it will be from the transfer payments of the top 9 teams - the current system which see's these teams get taxed 15mil a year for these garbage markets.

There is still a giant asterisk in as much as Jamison has to have everything worked out by the end of September.

The quote ignores that the 'sales tax' the City wants to provide $20 mil to the Yotes has been forced to referendum in November. The ESPN story might think it is a done deal but what has really changed. If we can assume that the Jamieson Group have smart investors then something more is afoot other than buying a 'dog' of a hockey franchise in PHX. Seriously! The franchise has not turned a profit since day one.

If in fact the selling price is $170 million simply ask how that price was determined? It cannot be based on revenue as sales have not been there. Hard assets don't really exist as the arena is owned by the City. Player contracts are worth something but many view them as a liability (money owed). The intrinsic value of the Yotes is the franchise to conduct NHL operations. I do believe that this sale is based on the team being moved to another market which I suspect is Seattle. Gretzky who is still owed $7 mil by the team visited Seattle and talked to interested investors about a proposed facility for NHL/NBA teams. If this is true it allows the sale to go forward and makes the November vote on the 'sales tax' irrelevent. Gretzky can mend fences with the NHL and possibly get a share of the action. It is a winning situation for a number of reasons.

What would this mean to Doan? Whatever happens 'stay or go' the franchise cannot offer him the stability he seems to want. The NHLPA's opening gambit was a $450 mil fund to help support 'poor' NHL franchise like the Yotes. The NHL already redistributes revenue from rich to poor teams and placed payroll caps to protect from escalating labour costs. I suspect that the NHL owners are not entertaining further subsidies. Bottom line is there are a number of NHL teams who have to start showing a profit or their financing could fail. The biggest cost of operation is labour.

For my reasons above I cannot conclude that Doan signing in PHX is now a foregone conclusion.
