Awesome!
We are one of the few good teams that doesn't have a single bad contract (please don't give me BS about 5.3 being bad for an elite [at least in the regular season] tender... Not great but not bad)!

Except that we have Vigneault and Ballard (his contract might not be bad under a different coach, but not with AV.)

Don't get me wrong - I love Burrows. His work ethic has made him one of my favourite players on the team.

But I still think 4.5 is pretty high for a player who's stats are clearly inflated by playing with the Sedins. I would have been happier for 4 for sure, and I honestly thought that would be around what he'd sign for.

Seeing Doan sign for not even a million more a year makes me wonder what kind of deal we really got. Burrows is rugged and tough, but not particularly strong and not exactly a hard-hitting presence on the ice like Doan would be.

Not a discount, but he deserves every bit of it for taking discounts the past few contracts. $500k less than Kesler - solid deal for both sides.

Ring of honour when all is said and done.

Up in the rafters is more realistic for Burrows.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Identical deal to Marchand. And while they are close to the same type of player, Burrows>Marchand everyday of the week baby!

A bit disappointed that it wasn't less, but I guess he deserved it considering he was a great bargain these past few years.

I'm pretty sure we made the right signing today, and totally a pay cut! :)

Doan not signing with us wasn't a decision on our part, and hardly anything to be proud of.

...and Burrows didn't really take a paycut. Fair value though, and I'm glad to see him stay in Vancouver.

He hasnt reuped yet so it might drag on into the next CBA and that could get complicated.

Good signing. 4.5 million is fair value. And after his last contract he didn't owe the Canucks another discount, imo.

I'd take Selanne, and I'd take Jagr; but on one year deals this year instead of Doan; not instead of Burrows who will be a great role player for us for another 5 years! :towel:

Backes, you have a point; but its not like we could trade Burrows for him anyways. I'm erring on the side of realistic!

I'd take Selanne and Backes ahead of Burrows, but no one else is clearly better at that price point.

Cool as to see Willie still cheering for old mates on the Nucks! Still wish we had Willie !

Willie Mitchell on Alex Burrows: "Excellent player, awesome teammate...crap disturber...take him on my team any week." #Canucks

Cap problems??? Nah...

But I am willing to bet it will mean some decisions which people will, but should not, fret over!

If there is a season; Lapierre, Malhotra and Higgins will all be key depth components should we go on another cup run. But then, with Lappy and Higgins anyway, they will get more lucrative offers and we can keep cap space. To the point; we jettison $5.4 mill in salary from them after next season. That easily pays for Burrows salary as those roster spots are then opened up for cheaper (and hopefully more exciting) young players like Jensen, Gaunce, Bjugstad (see what I did there? ) and Kassian! Thats our future!

Maybe Manny will take a cheaper retirement contract here...?

Anyway; Burr is a core guy where these guys are depth players who's roles could (hopefully) be replaced fairly cost effectively if the ELC guys also don't all come around!

People are silly to be looking for extensions for guys like Higgins IMO. Even while I would admit Higgins is probably a better player; the team misses Torres's size and truculence more. His body helped make our 3rd a physically imposing shut down line!

Well, time for cap problems

You say that as if:

1) Doan was available. He was ONLY available if he couldn't get a deal done with Phoenix. He got a deal done with Phoenix, ergo, not available.

2) Doan would've taken the same deal to play here. He wouldn't have.

3) Doan is the same age as Burrows. Doan is substantially older than Burrows.

Great deal for both sides. Burrows does so many great things. One thing that might have gotten over looked is his defensive abilitys and penalty killing skills. He has come up clutch on many occasions aswell!

I agree on the numbers but I think these guys are realizing they don't want to be against the cap all the time anyway, or at least they should be. They can't even find a decent guy to compliment the second line let alone pay them so why not give Burrows $.5 mil a year extra for all he has done for us? That could apply especially if player contracts come down. There could be less teams competing for top dollar players. If their plan curbs spending from the owners that is.

From the ECHL to an $18 million contract. What a path he has took.

Worth every penny Alex, glad you are going to be around for a long time now.

I like Burrows, but time will tell if giving 4.5 million dollar long term contracts to the entire core will keep their drive to win the cup high enough. When these guys are making less they're training like mad men fighting to get through to the next level.I hope these guys can still continue to rise and push themselves after they've essentially already cashed in.
