Buffalo Sabres have named Cody Hodgson captain of the Rochester Americans.

Is it just me, or is it weird that the Sabres are naming the captain of their farm team?

We should make Kassian the Wolves captain now. *sarcasm*

It might not be apparent now, but Kassian will be the better player in a few years. I believe in him.

Why make a player that you plan on having on the Sabres captain of the farm team?

Also, this the Canucks website not the Sabres ... just so you know.

"What players need is the right kind of strength and power. That includes learning to understand that leverage and positioning can be just as important as raw strength when it comes to winning battles in the game. It's more about timing and athleticism --and avoiding injury--than it is about how much you can bench press. I don't know how many times I've seen a guy with the physique of a defensive end line up a guy half his size, only to bounce off when he connects. Sure, there is room in the game for big guys who can throw their weight around. But for the most part, players are smart enough to see them coming--and strong enough to protect the puck when they arrive. There are trainers out there who know how to devlop hockey-specific strength--though a trainer can help only if a player follows the program. All too often, I've seen players sign up with the best trainer, but not show up for their workouts and never to reap the benefits."

It appears that despite the slagging by the local gm and some fans that Cody is still regarded by others as a leader and quality guy.

When he was drafted, the GM shoved down our throats that he was a man of the highest character imaginable.

So, either Mike Gillis didn't know who he was drafting, when he drafted him, or he was just bitter about the trade after seeing how it turned out. Pick your poison.

In related news, Cody Hodgson's father has also appointed himself as alternate captain, special assistant to the GM and stick boy for the upcoming season.

b...b...but.. but Hodgson was receiving sheltered minutes!! He only played against the Blue Jackets 3rd pairing every game!! His dad was the team manager!! We have soooo much depth at center right now and didn't need him!!!!

Of course, he should be the captain. He's a proud Canuck. Most former Canucks do well in other teams.

It's a rotating captain system.

But that tells you something about the Sabres system, that a player who has only played 20 games with an organization is deemed worthy of captain of their farm team.

Or how much they believe in him as a prospect and their expectation for him to perform.

When he was drafted, the GM shoved down our throats that he was a man of the highest character imaginable.

So, either Mike Gillis didn't know who he was drafting, when he drafted him, or he was just bitter about the trade after seeing how it turned out. Pick your poison.

Or his agent and his father are the issue, as has been widely speculated. Try considering all the possibilities for once, King.

He's still a kid, but if his father is pushing his career that might be the one person that sways him into making decisions he otherwise wouldn't. Having changed agents a number of times before settling on Winters, that further points to a controlling interest in his career. Considering the reports from many people (not just Gillis' word) about Cody's character, it would make sense he has a little help in decision making off the ice.

But yeah, not really Canucks Talk, and odd the Sabres would make the decision. I could see them making an announcement along with Rochester, but you'd think the AHL team would just take Buffalo's advice and make the decision themselves. Perhaps it's just the wording of the announcement.

Oh, and BTW, Kassian has an 'A' (or did for last night's game at least):

Or maybe he did so well with The Canucks and showed his leadership qualities that Sabers decided to give him a shot.

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

Still defending him when he isn't even Canucks property anymore.

Ironically, I am a HUGE Sabres fan, so my dig at their organization is not a shot at Hodgson at all, more at the organization.
