FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Fresno Police have confirmed to KMPH News that a number of people are dead and others are injured following a workplace shooting in Central Fresno.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. at Valley Protein, which is located on Hedges near Blackstone.
Police say the suspect walked into the business looking specifically for someone, opened fire and then took their own life.
KMPH News reporter Liz Gonzalez says as many as 60 workers may have been inside at the time of the shooting.
Dozens of officers are on the scene.
Streets in the area are closed.

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

Must be great to live in America.

In other big news, our small city just hired a new assistant coach for its hockey team (front page news).

California has one of the toughest gun laws in the US.

People wanting to hurt/murder others will always find a way, regardless of the accessibility of firearms.

Yep, and yep.

The thing is, Fresno is one of the worst cities in Cali to live in, and that's saying something. It's a craphole I'm glad I only ever had to drive past.

The statistics for murder rates in industrialized countries that have more gun control vs less gun control indicate that your statement is incorrect. In general the easier it is to get handguns the more often people get shot.

Obviously, getting up the nerve is greatly helped by these guns as is the ease to do it. It's funny some people don't get that.

The violence is still the underlying problem here, not the possession of firearms. All firearms does is just make the consequence deadlier.
Places like Switzerland, Norway, Germany, Austria has pretty high gun ownership rates, but their crime levels aren't as high as the US.

Remove all guns and crazies will just find other alternatives. Back in '08, some guy in Japan drove a truck into a crowd, then pulled out his dagger and started stabbing people. 7 killed and another 10 injured. Gun laws didn't prevent that outburst of violence.

A mature society should be addressing the causes of such problems, and not just bubble wrapping everyone/everything and hoping for the best.

+1

Gun bans in the US don't bring this utopia where criminals stop shooting people, nor upon any ban passing would it make criminals suddenly walk down to city hall and hand over their guns , it just takes guns from those who would follow the law and use it in self-defence, making it so that between criminals and law abiding civilians, criminals are the only ones with guns. Way to hang law abiding citizens out to dry there.

Every month or so, we have this exact same debate.

That should be telling you "take away their guns and they'll just find another way" people something...

...your system isn't working. You can bury your head in the sand and tell yourselves that everything is okay, but we'll be back here before too long debating the next mass shooting in the US.

"Greatest country in the world"? Hardly.
