FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Fresno Police have confirmed to KMPH News that a number of people are dead and others are injured following a workplace shooting in Central Fresno.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. at Valley Protein, which is located on Hedges near Blackstone.

Police say the suspect walked into the business looking specifically for someone, opened fire and then took their own life.

KMPH News reporter Liz Gonzalez says as many as 60 workers may have been inside at the time of the shooting.

Dozens of officers are on the scene.

Streets in the area are closed.

The violence is still the underlying problem here, not the possession of firearms. All firearms does is just make the consequence deadlier.

Places like Switzerland, Norway, Germany, Austria has pretty high gun ownership rates, but their crime levels aren't as high as the US.

Remove all guns and crazies will just find other alternatives. Back in '08, some guy in Japan drove a truck into a crowd, then pulled out his dagger and started stabbing people. 7 killed and another 10 injured. Gun laws didn't prevent that outburst of violence.

A mature society should be addressing the causes of such problems, and not just bubble wrapping everyone/everything and hoping for the best.
