dudeone
Charles Darwin earns 4,000 write-in votes against creationist Ga. congressman http://www.washingto...c486_story.html By Associated Press, Updated: Thursday, November 8, 5:24 PM ATHENS, Ga. — Charles Darwin earned almost 4,000 write-in votes against a Georgia congressman who denounced evolution and other scientific theories as “lies straight from the pit of hell.” The symbolic votes in Athens-Clarke County were a small percentage of more than 209,000 votes won by Republican Rep. Paul Broun in his unopposed re-election Tuesday. The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bitly.com/XnDtgG) that write-in totals weren’t immediately available for the other 24 counties in his district. Broun gave a speech to a church group on Sept. 27 lambasting evolution, embryology and the Big Bang theory. Critics urged voters to write in the 19th-century British naturalist who is considered the father of evolution.

Nevlach
What's up with the congressman? "Broun gave a speech to a church group on Sept. 27 lambasting evolution, embryology and the Big Bang theory." I can understand what a creationist might be uncomfortable with evolution but why bring embryology and the BBT into it? Those blasted embryos

thedestroyerofworlds
He's trying very hard to court the "uneducated" vote. As for the symbolic votes.. now that's a waste of vote, since Darwin is not an eligible write-in candidate.
Ghostsof1915
Science needs champions. The fact that a significant portion of the US population thinks the world is only 10,000 years old and created by God is disturbing. Education and support in the media to show how the world works without the superstitious mumbo-jumbo would be a welcome change.
