This movement will continue to lose steam as its male participants hit 18 years of age

So, as a 'class project', the deem it acceptable to actively try to make dozens of people lose their jobs?!?

Psssh, look at all the people trying to shut down the oilsand!. That's actively trying to make hundreds of thousands of people loose their jobs!

Of course, they don't exactly teach basic financial abilities at school so why expect anyone to think of those things?

One could point out it's looking down one's nose to call the Canadian public fiscally incompetent but given the average persons debt to income ratio is at an all time high one could counterpoint that it's already been mathematically proven!

What do you expect from the leftwing Teachers Federation?. They have been in indoctinating students about social justice issues for years. The role of women in society, feminism, human rights, gay rights, etc.

Might I point out that I can only assume the vast majority of posters in this thread were in fact educated by "the leftwing Teachers Federation" and yet are all (unanimously as far as I can see) rightfully calling out this project as idiotic.

Perhaps you should think on that for a few moments...

i'm sure they mean well, but they're misguided and naive. it's a silly cause to take up, given that many self-identified feminists probably don't even agree that strip clubs are necessarily evil.

I was merely responding to the OP. He said it was brainwashing. Perhaps you should take up the matter with him.

Anyways, where do you think the students get the ideas from? Obviously from what is being taught in school. And from teachers.

should go petition the keg, cactus club, earls, and other restaurants / bars while they are at it. Completely unethical to objectify women the way they do. Men treating them like objects and tipping them accordingly. We don't want women growing up in a world where they can use their looks to get ahead.

Of course society, parents, media, peer pressure etc. play absoulute NO role in the forming of opinions or provision of 'ideas' in young people. I am disappointed, Don. :( :sadno:

Always amazes me how much the extreme right wing and left wing have in common.

This is the exact same kind of behaviour you'd expect from religiously inspired moral police on the right.

Strippers, escorts should be added to job bank: Ottawa

Published on Wednesday October 13, 2010

Richard J. Brennan
Ottawa Bureau

OTTAWA—The Conservative government wants to help unemployed Canadians find careers as strippers and for-hire escorts.
According to a draft Oct. 1 memo obtained by the Star, Ottawa has determined these careers once considered “morally offensive” should be put on the federal government’s Job Bank, which is also available for use by the provinces.
The surprise memo from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada has set a few tongues wagging among those wondering how these careers suddenly became respectable, and how Conservatives could allow this to happen.
“This is such a contradiction for the holier than thou family values gang to all of a sudden endorse an escort service as a legitimate occupation for unemployed Canadian women,” NDP MP Pat Martin said.
Terri-Jean Bedford, the dominatrix who went to court and got Canada’s prostitution laws thrown out, said these are legitimate occupations and “it’s high time that people stop being so judgmental about another person’s occupation.”
“There are a lot of unsavory occupations that I would never apply for. Soldier being one of them and politician probably being another,” Bedford said.
The job posting change is at odds with the Conservatives’ outrage over the recent federal court decision stating that Canada’s prostitution violated the Constitution. The government immediately appealed the decision, saying “prostitution is a problem that harms individuals and communities.”
“This is appalling activity by our government because what they are really doing is promoting the subjugation of woman for the most part,” Charles McVety, the president of Canadian Christian College, told the Star.
“It is also hypocritical that this would this would be done under a Conservative government,” he said.
The draft policy, which has yet to be implemented, stated that the following occupations will “be acceptable for posting on Job Bank”:
Exotic dancer, erotic dancer, nude dancer, striptease dancer and table dancer.
Escort, chat line agent, phone agent for personal services and telephone agent for personal services.
Many of these occupations in a 2003 memo from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRDC) were described as being “morally offensive by the majority of Canadians.”
It is not the first time that strippers have caused problems for the federal government of the day.
In 2004, the opposition called for then immigration minister Judy Sgro’s resignation over her office’s decision to extend a residence permit to a Romanian stripper, and Ottawa’s controversial program to allow foreign strippers to get special work visas.
“The Conservatives were all over that,” recalled McVety, “that’s why I’m a little incredulous that a Conservative government would do this.”

it´s simple math WHY STRIP CLUBS ARE BETTER THAN MANY GIRLFRIENDS...

Strip Club (one night):

"entry fee": 50 bucks

"dance": 150

beer (all night): 60

"happy ending": 300

total: 560 (less if you skip the "dance" and drink only a few beers) and you will do PRECISELY what you want and she will not want "have a conversation" with you tomorrow...

Girlfriend: (one night)

fuel (will be your car of course!): 70

restaurant: 300 (if she doesn´t ask for the most expensive meal)

movie: 50 (movie+snacks) and the movie will be that annoying romance with a stupid vampire...

gifts, jewelry, miscellaneous items: 150

Total: 570 bucks. but there´s no guarantee that you will have sex with her, probably you will have to spend more 700 bucks to finally have something interesting with her. and the fact that she wants have a "conversation" with you tomorrow and the FBI/KGB (her father) is tracking you...

so. until you find the girl of your life to marry and have kids, go to the strip club! it´s easier, faster, better, cheaper and if you are shy they (girls) help you!

it should be included even on health plan :)

You do know that human rights are just as important to right wing groups as they are to left wing groups right?

Ayn Rand's entire political philosophy is about human rights and the government not interfering with said rights. You know that big thing called gun control down in the United States? That's about right wing individuals arguing that people CANNOT take away their human rights. Should teachers instead teach that human rights are unimportant and that you cannot stand up for yourself when you view your rights are being taken away from you?. Should teachers not teach about things that are important to humans?

Your comment is just like this student initiative: whether you view the issue from the right wing perspective or a left wing perspective, everyone can agree that it is stupid.

CDC is lucky to have such brilliant scouts:

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

They need to find something to do other than preventing consenting adults from doing what they choose to do.

I have to wonder if some these dudes are doing this as a pathetic attempt to get laid by pretending to be a gentleman.

One could point out it's looking down one's nose to call the Canadian public fiscally incompetent but given the average persons debt to income ratio is at an all time high one could counterpoint that it's already been mathematically proven!

Considering the oil sands are requiring water to extract the oil, and the companies are grossly polluting the rivers, it seems to me short term gain, long term problems.

I guess having increases in cancer, destroying fish and wildlife, and polluting sources of water is worth a few bucks and jobs right?

Exactly. It's not like the oilsands causes anyone harm. And even if it did, those individuals chose to live a ....couple ....hundred..... kilometers.... away...... from the oilsands. How dare they infringe on the rights of the oilpatch workers with whiny tales about their health and the health of their families. They should just shut up and instead become employees of the oilsands, that way when they get cancer, they will be covered with a comprehensive health package. Everyone wins.
