Provost
I wonder if there would be any bites? I can't imagine that there would be. Dude has played 50 NHL games total in the pasts 5 seasons and is signed to eternity. http://www.hockeybuz...82#.USecGaWsh8E EDIT: It is now being reported in other places on Twitter from reputable sources. So looks to be true.
Xbox
probably getting ready for an amnesty buyout in the summer. Highly doubt there would be any takers. Thanks for the info OP!
Jägermeister
Nope, they're stuck with him forever.
BabychStache
Part of me feels sorry for him. The majority of me would swap careers with him in an instant.
Scott Hartnell's Mane
Lol DiPietro will be the albatross around that franchise's neck until he ends his career. No one is going to take him. I feel bad for the guy...
D-Money
Probably to send him to the farm, see if he can rediscover his game.
Provost
Wonder if they are in the market for another goalie? Hiller and a few other decent guys could be available. I can't see NYI buying him out. They don't need to free up cap space and always struggle to hit the cap floor... why spend cash that avoids a cap hit that you need. Having him play some time in the minors seems like the only logical reasoning. Maybe also hoping for a miracle in someone to pick him up.
-Vintage Canuck-
Some people don't trust HockeyBuzz, so here's another source: @theScore: The Islanders are reportedly set to place goaltender Rick DiPietro on waivers. http://t.co/JCTSm3OrTn
BertuzziJr 2.0
Could this be a precursor to a move? Sending him to the minor's doesn't eliminate his cap hit from the team with the new CBA. Or is it simply, like said above, a move because he is just that bad?
Scott Hartnell's Mane
This is the ridiculous contract that MG should have taken note of before signing Luongo to his absurdly large contract, IMO. This is an example of what happens when a player signs a massive deal and quite frankly busts, injuries notwithstanding.
-Vintage Canuck-
@TSNResearch: Since DiPietro signed his 15 year contract. 247 games missed (injury), 175 games played

votrechien
The Isles essentially took Dipietro for: Luongo Oli Jokinen Dany Heatly Where could they have been now?
Opmac
It's the right move, but people have to use this opportunity to ridicule Rick DiPietro and the New York Islanders. He needs to play games. He's played only 50 games since the 2008-09 season. That's nearly five years.

Aladeen
Yeah ok bud. I want you to think about it like this. Say the shoe was on the other foot, and it was LUONGO who signed an incredibly large contract then played only 50 games in nearly 5 years. I'm not ridiculing DiPietro, I'm ridiculing the decision to give this young kid a lifetime contract in the 6th year of his career, AFTER signing a similar deal with Alexei Yashin before the 2001-2002 season of 10 years. I'm not questioning DiPietro...I'm questioning Isles management for making a bad business decision.
Scott Hartnell's Mane
Isles Management making bad business decisions? I will not sit here and read your slanderous words sir! You have offended my senses and I challenge you to a duel. I must defend the honor of Snow and Wang!
JensenFan2011
Maybe a move because they have a deal in place with a team? maybe schnieder, miller or hiller? maybe even kipper?
