6-5 winger. Decent nhl stats for a 4th line plug. Awesome pick up. Will still miss Volpati, but still. We'll take it.

Well there goes the belief that Volpatti was sent down to free up a roster space.

If we can pick someone else up, it means we sent him down because we thought we could do better.

Sestito isn't really much different... bigger version, not a an accomplished fighter though... at least as a heavyweight.

Now we know maybe why GMMG was in Philly a couple of weeks back?

Injuries has certainly a great part in the struggling. The funny thing is that we got them injuries when the season barely has started.

What was the point of waiving Volpatti in the first place then? I do like that Sestito has slightly more offensive skill than Volpatti and I know he can do the job to bang bodies like Volpatti but there really is no difference aside from him being 6'5.

If wikipedia is to be believed, Sestito scored his first and second NHL goals against both VAN goalies. That GMMG is crafty.

Zac Rinaldo took Tom Sestitos roster spot in Philadelphia.

I am also a Flyers fan. Sestito is nothing special but also shouldnt be in the AHL either.

These players (Volpatti, Sestito..) are a dime a dozen

Well there goes the belief that Volpatti was sent down to free up a roster space.

If we can pick someone else up, it means we sent him down because we thought we could do better.

Sestito isn't really much different... bigger version, not a an accomplished fighter though... at least as a heavyweight.

Considering the Canucks announced they moved Pinizzotto back to the roster and sent him down on a conditioning stint after Volpatti was claimed, I think that actually confirms it rather than debunks it.

Last night at 7pm:

JamiesonCanucks
#Canucks assistant GM Lorne Henning confirms Steve Pinizzotto joins NHL club, sent to Chicago on 2-week conditioning assignment.

Then this morning we claim Sestito since Pinizzotto is already removed from the roster on the conditioning stint.

Kind of a lateral move from Volpatti, although he is bigger.

I don't support the idea of actually sending Schroeder on a flight back to Chicago (since if we assign him to the Wolves, he has to physically report) only to have him fly back the next day. That's not an ideal situation even if there was a chance of losing Volpatti to waivers. I could see delaying bringing Ebbett up to replace Kesler but depending on the timing of the IR paperwork for both Kesler and Pinizzotto to go through, perhaps the Canucks didn't feel there was enough time in case of any delays.

Anyhow, the roster stuff is taken care of for now, and then when Pinizzotto has finished his conditioning stint, they'll hopefully have a good enough idea if we could try him on the 4th line in place of Ebbett. Perhaps by then a trade might have happened to alleviate the issue as well.

Anyway, the people who criticized Canucks for losing Volpatti can be happy they got a younger, bigger guy with a better AHL scoring record.
