I was trying to remember why I hated this guy so much. Then I looked up some of his fights and found out why :

Oh well, goons gon' goon.

I think you've nailed it.

How refreshing it would be if that is exactly the way Gillis communicates it, instead of some spin riddled insult to our intelligence.

Probably that refreshing.

I don't see why people think it's a good thing we picked up a guy no one else in the league wanted. There was at least interest in Volpatti. This makes no sense to me... especially since MG had no idea S. would be available.
- I still have no idea why V. was waived; people said it was to get a center (Ebbett) but now he's been sent back down. The whole thing is wacky.

Keep in mind this fits Mike Gillis MO of getting "bigger and younger".

Volpatti (as good as he looked as a 4th liner) is probably as good as he will ever get (will probably bounce around 4th lines/waivers for the next few years).

Sestito, a bit younger has shown some offensive upside in the past (7 points in 34 games, decent AHL production).

Sestito could very well turn into a 10 goal, 10 assist 10 minute 4th liner (which is fairly rare in this league).

The thing with Sestito is he doesn't shy away from playing dirty as all hell.

This is the kind of guy who will (and has before) throw a dirty elbow or a hit from behind if you did something to his teammate he didn't like.

Hi Keith.

That's great! So...1) he gets 5 and a game resulting in goals agaisnt and a loss and/or 2) AV benches him or he gets sent to the wolves for being undisciplined.

Tough is good but careless adn stupid is not. Volpatti played the tough role well and didn't cost his team.

THis guy is bigger but not sure he will be as effective and he could be a liability.

Sestitio is just as good as Volpatti and is bigger. Volpatti didn't exactly win every fight he was in either.

So if someone takes a run at a Sedin and they concuss him, it's not okay to retaliate because he could get suspended?

Amazing considering the outcry of people who want Keith to taste his own medicine. Sounds like you're complaining just to complain.

Stats never tell the full story, Volpatti is a better "tough guy" then Sestito

Sure and Cody is the next "Great One" Sestito is better at every part of the game.

Another crappy MG move. The stock in this team just keeps dropping and dropping. He was laughed at in the UK league.

Makes you wonder if he was suitable for a PT winning team like the Canucks why did Washington not pick him up instead of Volpatti?

I now dread every trade/signing this guy makes.

Oh no, not the UK hockey league laughing at him!

Because I love stats, here are some stats for you guys:

We gained 5 inches

We gained 13 pounds.

We got 2 years younger.

Player - Pts - G - A - +/- - PIM - BORN
Volpatti - 1 --- 1 -- 0 -- 0 -- 28 --- CDN - BC
Sestito -- 2 --- 2 -- 0 - +1 - 12 --- USA - NY

Not even looking at the size diffence, one look at their career stats including AHL, and Juniors there is no comparison. Sestito has 10x more potential than Volpatti and is already the better overall player. If they were on waivers at the same time then mybe Volpatti would still be a Canuck, lucky for the Canucks they weren't.

Not complaining just taking a wait and see approach. Volpatti was quite willing to drop them to protect teammates so not sure what this brings beyond that.

His scouting report says he has a propensity to take bad penalties. We all know how that works with AV (and the league).

Time will tell but I"m not like some here who seem to think just because he's big, he's going to change the dynamics of this team.

This was not a calculated move by MG to replace Volpatti. It was damage control after losing our 4th line tough guy.

TIme will tell.

Anyway, the people who criticized Canucks for losing Volpatti can be happy they got a younger, bigger guy with a better AHL scoring record.

Exactly. Many people are expecting the moon from 4th liners. When you look at it objectively, Sestito is a very decent 4th liner. He got huge size, decent skills and can skate.

His offensive zone start is 42.9% and offensive zone finish is 60.5%. That's what we need from a 4th liner.

cdc never cease to amaze me

we just lost Kesler for 4-6 weeks, and the hottest topic in cdc right now is how much worse the team is without Volpatti and how to replace him....

You see that's the problem with these fans; Volpatti was no where near changing the dynamics either. With Sestito aleast we have size with some skill.

getting upset about things that are uncontrollable is silly. Did management hurt kesler? No. Did management waive patti? Yes. Obviously they had this planned out and it seems to be a good move now, but at the time it looked as if we lost an asset for nothing at all.

This gives AV an extra body on reserve until Pinizzotto is ready, at which point, what exactly is the harm in exposing Sestito to waivers?

ya because losing Volpatti is such a big deal and that was one of the worst mistake the team can make that could effect our playoff and cup winning chance

we lost a decent 4th liner, and there are like a dozen of them out there. Yet cdc exploded and act like we just lost Daniel Sedin to the wavier

cdc right now is like a kid dropping a m&m on the ground and he starts to stomp the ground crying it's the end of the world.

Minus fighting... Has Sestito even won a fight? Cause I've never seen him win one.

When did I even mention Cody?

Sestito is gonna be alright, as long as he doesn't cross the line and take stupid penalties (which he's know for). Volpatti always played hard AND clean which is valuable.

People saying he's an upgrade cause he scores more, he played 1 good game... He's not gunna score any more then any other 4th liner most likely maybe 5 goals- 10 points over a season. But if he costs the team due to stupid penalties he won't stick around very long.

Holds his own in the fight below, but Lucic still won. Only punches he landed were a couple at the beginning and a couple near the end once Lucics jersey was around his head.
