In my opinion we should make an offer to RFA Derek Stepan Even though he is a restricted free agent I think we should make an offer but most likely a trade I see maybe giving up a couple of 1st round picks and a couple of 2nd round picks

What do you think? Should we make an offer for Stepan? GO CANUCKS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Small problem pending in that the team does not have a legitimate back up goalie on the roster.

The Canucks only have about $2M in cap space. If that is all it would take to sign Stepan, don't you think the Rangers would have done that already?

No, offersheets just ruin relationships between GMs.

Definitely. Could be our 2nd line center while Kesler shutsdown the other teams top line? Offer sheet him 2.7 million per for 2 years if he wants a bridge contract. If he wants a long term contract wouldn't mind giving him 4.8 million per for 5 years, trade Booth if he can, if not Higgins would be reasonable.

Offer sheets are for morons like Holmgren to offer to players and burn bridges with other GMs.

sedins kassian
burrows kesler schroeder
booth santorriell jensen
higgins richardson hansen

hamhuis bieksa
edler tanev
garrison alberts/corrado/ haisley

sigh haisley 3years 1.4 mill per still leaves 800k in cap for a depth forward or d incase of injuries

Lmao that guy is not worth a couple firsts and a couple seconds. And offer sheeting is bad for GM relationships.

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian (Scoring)
Booth - Stepan - Schroeder (Secondary scoring)
Burrows - Kesler - Hansen (Shutdown)
Richardson - Lain - Weise (Checking)

Our lineup can look like this, if you think he is going to be in 3C role (whichever role that is), besides Torts doesn't mind Stepan.

It's like ppl c something on tv and have to repeat it like its actually an option lol. Bridge contract for 2.7. First we don't even have 2.7 and second like ppl have already said, if it only take 2-3 mill to sign him it would be done already. Amazing how easy ppl think the NHL actually works

It has been a long long time since the Canucks have had some solid prospects. Let's not go out and piss off some GMs, karma could be a real bitch when Horvat, Gaunce, Shinkaruk, Corrado, and Jensen become RFAs.

OMG we could've had McKeown!

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

Down by the River - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

lol nothing says "a big screw you" to A.V. by taking away his 1st line center right?

But no, while he's good he's not worth what he wants given what Subban and Kadri got as RFA's. Their bridge contracts basically set the tone for what RFA's should expect. No way we should sign him for the $4.7M he wants though.

I just said if we cannot move Booth then we move Higgins. I wrote it in my last post. Does what line I put him on matter, I can put the Sedins on the 4th line and call them the scoring line.

I said if he doesn't want a bridge we can do a long term. What am I doing to make it look easy? It is just a suggestion it won't happen but if I was MG I would definitely go after Stepan because he is a 1st/2nd line center that is still developing into a star. They are apparently still far away from getting a contract for Stepan so it looks like this could happen. This is reasonable money similar to what Kadri got earlier today and you can compare these 2.

Free up cap space like every other team? Hockey isn't complicated.

Booth won't work but Higgins is on a limited NTC which lets him pick 10 teams he wants to go to or something like that. Higgins is a valuable 3rd liner so he'll most likely be easy to ship out.

Spokern like a guy how bases his entire outlook on how things operate in NHL13

If hockey transactions were so basic Luongo would have been traded before the start of last season. Things are far more complicated than you seem to think

Who do you trade Booth to? He's injured, and based on his last couple seasons is a massive risk, overpaid, and a waste of a contract.
Sure, trade Higgins instead, oh wait, limited NTC
Sign him to a bridge contract for $2.7M per (yeah because the Rangers won't match that for a star in the making)
Ok sign him to a 5 yr $4.8M contract (let's say he signs the offer sheet, now the Canucks are well over the cap ceiling, are still one player shy of the 23 man roster with no easy way to get under the cap)

New York has 24 players signed and have almost as much cap space left as Vancouver who only have 22 players signed. They are in a position to match any reasonable offersheet. It would take a MASSIVE overpayment to get them to let him walk, the kind of offer that Vancouver simply can't afford to make

The Rags have players they can ship out themselves to make room to sign Stepan. And what happens when your RFAs become eligible for offer sheets and Sather offers something crazy for a player you cannot afford to lose.

You do have a good point. Gillis could pluck Stepan out of New York this year, but what if Sather comes back next year and offer sheets Kassian or Tanev?

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

If we signed him to a 2 year at 3.3/year it would only be a 2nd round draft pick and it would be easy enough for us to clear enough space... now at 3.3 I'm sure NYR would find a way to match but if it did work it would make us incredibly deep down the middle and give us a legitimate 2nd line replacement for kesler if he gets hurt and shroeder can step into the 3C position.
