-Vintage Canuck-
Fall from grace for the former 30-goal scorer: The Calgary Flames put veteran forward Devin Setoguchi on waivers Wednesday. Setoguchi, 27, was deemed expendable after appearing in just 12 games this year, registering no points with a minus-7 rating while averaging just over 12 minutes per game. He last played in Saturday’s 5-4 shootout win over the Devils, playing 7:35 (only rookie forward Corban Knight played less.) A former first-round pick (eighth overall, 2005) and 30-goal scorer, Setoguchi’s career has been in a tailspin recently. He’s played for four different organizations over the last five years — San Jose, Minnesota, Winnipeg and Calgary — and has seen his production steadily decrease. Should Setoguchi go unclaimed, he’ll likely be off to Calgary’s AHL affiliate in Adirondack. He’s on a one-year, $750,000 deal, so the Flames would be freed of his cap hit. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/26/calgary-waives-setoguchi/
JeremyCuddles
Calgary isn't exactly loaded with skilled guys so him being let isn't exactly a good sign.
Apple Juice
Thought it was a good and cheap signing by the Flames to provide at least 25-30 points. But 0 points in 12 games played? How is that even possible.Sharks should make a claim for him. It's where he's had the most success in his career.
timberz21
You can question Joe Thornton's heart, but boy did the big guy help a few guys out during his career. Cheechoo, Setoguchi, Heatley (was an all-star before San Jose, but basically made Team Canada in 2010 because of him).
Sneezy
Calgary isn't exactly loaded with skilled guys so him being let isn't exactly a good sign. 73 goals and leading the western conference would suggest that the Flames are not as challenged offensively as you think. Where did he say Calgary is offensively challenged? He was talking about skills So by your reasonning since Calgary is the 2nd best offense of the league, then by default they are the 2nd most skilled team in the league?!?!? Chalky
Calgary isn't exactly loaded with skilled guys so him being let isn't exactly a good sign. They are leading the West (2nd in the League) in Goals For and are 5th in the Conference, 5 points from the top of the league. I don't think Setoguchi was going to be the difference maker. As my fellows have mentioned I wasn't saying Calgary is having offensive woes. They aren't a skill team, they are a scrap it out team. Guess it makes sense Setoguchi doesn't really fit there. I can see Edmonton taking a shot on him if they end up dealing Perron for a centre though.

Dazzle
I think teams like the Coyotes would make a claim for him. Their roster needs a bit of a shakeup after losing.

cripplereh
not surprising as last couple years he looked more of a floater then scorer
wshdrvvn
Wow! Good job CDC, not a single person wanting to take a chance on him. He just hasn't been the same guy for the past 2-3 years.
Drewismyname
Uhhhh calgary has a lot of skill this year this thread reaks ofgeneric biased responses from typical no life "hockey fans. Setoguchi just plain sucked.
BeefcakeBo
It's always surprising to see a guy decline so much. I saw him a lot in his last year of junior and he was dominant. To go from a 30 goal scorer just a few years ago to no points this season in 12 games is pretty odd. Makes you wonder what the problem there is. Does he still play hard enough and with enough knowledge to be valuable to Edmonton as an example to young players, with enough skill not to be really harmful to the team?
