  1. If we're signing a lefty dman to a long term deal, then yeah I would have to agree.
  2. This deal is going to make the Eriksson deal look fantastic. Remember when he was signed, thinking he would be a 30 goal scorer? Phili just signed Hayes to 7.14 a season as a 20 goal scorer...
  3. The way this team is set up right now with Edler likely leaving, it's very possible that 2 of Hughes, Juolevi , or Brisebois start the season on the left side for us with Hutton. To me, that means we're gonna need some good vets to play on the right side. Tanev stays, unless someone like Doughty becomes available. Also since he has no back up on the right side for good hard PK minutes, we'll need to upgrade one of Stetcher/Biega/Schenn with an experienced vet who can still do it, lay the body, grind out the PK minutes, being paired with either Hutton or Juolevi/Brisebois. Benning has to hit a homerun with a trade for that right side. Honestly, the 10th has to be on the table. We need this.
  4. Not if they aren't the only ones eating up the PK minutes and the hard defensive zone starts for their perspective teams. They need to be put in a position to not get worn out by mid season. If they're sharing the load, I see it helping. Like I said before though. This is an option to circle back to. Not the first choice, but it's doable if neccessary and would still be an upgrade on what Stetcher or Biega brings to the table.
  5. Oh I wonder who Buffalo has had playing on the penalty kill on the right side besides Bogosian? Doesn't sound like Ristolainen has been doing much of that. The other right handed guy they have is Brandon Montour. Also another offensive guy. What does that tell you? It tells me that BOGO has been playing as hard of minutes as Tanev with no one capable of having his back and as soon as he has gotten injured, the team has floundered again and again. How much do you wanna bet if we have both BOGO and Tanev on the same team that next season, we have a top 5 to top 10 PK and that neither of these guys are getting injured so badly?
  6. Awesome!!! That's great news. He would probably be someone Benning will circle back to, should he strike out with some other irons in the fire.
  7. Not Bogosian unless he has been to rehab. When he was in Winnipeg, my cousin told me it was pretty well known he has a bit of a coke problem.
  8. This whole expansion thing is hilarious. Does he actually think he's going to get expansion protection from anywhere else ?!
  9. Phaneuf actually plays the right side as a left hander.... If I had to handicap our chances of ending up with Phaneuf (pending a defense altering trade) I would say there's a good chance we see him on the blue line next year if Benning thinks he's any better than Guddy.
  10. He sure did. I'm glad I was wrong. It took the right coach and right team to point him in the right direction though. Once that happened, he unleashed his potential, which is fantastic. Now he can be a role model for anyone else going thru the Blues pipeline for years to come.
  11. He wants protection from the expansion draft. I get it, but I don't think he will at this point in his career, no matter where he goes. If Vancouver isn't going to do it, he thinks San Jose will?! And also, could this be a fit because Karlsson could be close to be re-signing and he wants to play with him? 2014 Olympics had some good chemistry.
  12. The thing is If the Canucks ice an actual playoff competitive team, Corey Perry will show up. I don't care how banged up he is. He is a competitor and we need guys with that compete level. He may not be the guy who steers the ship anymore, but he can be a top 6 forward for us if we can ice a better team.
  13. I would maybe take this, if Perry passed a physical. If a team is more competitive, Perry's compete level goes up and I would bet on a bounce back. Also thinking back to the old trade for Perry thread from years ago. Wishing we had Raymond, Ballard, and a 1st. That might actually get it done now, funny enough
  14. Just checking in to see if this thread is still a tire fire of bad decisions.... Yup!!! Later everyone. I'll be back when common sense prevails.
  15. I like this idea. I really do, but the Canucks HAVE to find a way to lose that Loui Eriksson contract...otherwise good luck.
  16. Canucks can't afford to do that though if they wanna get better. Tanev is the very definition of a guy who will walk if he doesn't get help. For the good of his career. I know I would be thinking the same. All we'd be doing is throwing a new dog into the fight instead of having 2 dogs ready to eat the hard minutes no one else can. Tanev keeps getting injured because of the lack of help. Getting Trouba would show this and even if we didn't make the playoffs next season, we would definitely actually get value for Tanev by the deadline.
  17. That I'd probably be okay with, IMO. Turns out though, there are more RHD available at the draft and free agency than we thought, which should chop Trouba's value down enough. If Cheveldayoff slow plays it, he'll likely be screwed in the off season.
  18. Actually, this is huge and there's a pretty big fit, here. Probably the first big rumor out of Vancouver I can really get behind. We need that top 6 winger to play with Bo. Pearson might fit the bill, but Benn is on another level and Captain of another team. Not only that, there might be a fit for Eriksson to go the other way. Salary is an issue on both ends of this one. Not only that, Eriksson would for sure waive for Dallas. He started his career there. He has roots there. Swap both for salary sake. He's a left winger, so the trade would be something along the lines of: To Dallas: Pearson Eriksson 2nd and 3rd 2019 picks Gaudette/Sutter (Maybe our 10th overall 2019 if they don't take Gaudette/Sutter and the 2nd and 3rd picks. If it's Sutter, they might want the 1st pick anyways.) To Van: Benn Nichuskin
  19. Let's say we even entertained this thought here for a sec. Malkin's near 10 mil cap hit would be okay, ONLY if Eriksson was going the other way in the trade, let alone whatever else needed to be dealt for Malkin. Now, how good is Malkin on faceoffs? Do we want Petey playing wing? Is this how we're supposed to appease Goldobin because we believe in his talent?! Is this to help bring back Tryamkin (literally the only real good logic to add to this idea)? So many questions for the motivations behind this idea, when I think the best question is: why would we trade the 10th overall pick to Pittsburgh to go along with this when there are a pile of centermen in the top 10 of this draft?! Personally, I think it COULD be done, but I kind of feel like Jeff Goldblum in Jurrassic Park. "People find out they can do something and then do it without even questioning whether they actually should!"
  20. We take acquired talented right handed D-man who can play now and let someone else use the pick.
  21. Then why trade him for Shea Weber? I'll admit the trade didn't work out for them, but there was still a reason why they looked for the trade. Even at a 1 for 1 hockey trade.
  22. You gotta watch the games more and you will see why Tanev is getting injured year after year. I made the mistake of thinking he would be better off traded last season. He does play hard minutes. Harder than anyone else on the team. If we don't support our guys who play those minutes, we're going to keep losing. Period.
  23. Glad both you and HorvattoBaertschi aren't making the team then. Of course we need a number 1. We also need Tanev healthy in the times we need him the most. PK isn't gonna chew up any of the hard minutes Tanev has. He is not gonna be out there blocking shots on the penalty kill or defending the lead in any big situation. We need a number 1 right sided Dman, but not THAT kind of #1 right sided dman. Plan A would be trading for a guy like Jacob Trouba and the like, Plan B would be signing Tyler Myers, Plan C, D, E and so on down the line would be settling for guys like Mcquaid or Stralman in the bargain bin. Not to mention, if we did trade for PK, we would have to trade him again in a couple seasons anyway at a lesser value even to afford Quinn Hughes' new contract and I can imagine it's gonna be a big one like Petey's will. Just...think first, before ya go all gung ho on a guy like PK.
