[Signing] Tyler Myers to Vancouver
DrJockitch replied to Rush17's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Looking at old posts and this is perfectly prescient in describing what the last 4 years of Myers have been. -
I LIKE BIG BUTTS AND I CANNOT LIE. YOU OTHER BROTHERS CAN’T DENY.

Ugh. Utah. I guess that is one way of making Winnipeg and Edmonton look better. -

Good for Tempe. They did the right thing. Not giving tax dollars to billion dollar corporations. -

Pics and cap space pfffft! What good are those? oh and Philly another horribly run franchise. Just terrible. -
Who here is actually happy with the Hronek trade?

How dare you sir. That is the Golden Brent you are talking about. -
This. Break the cycle of bad management. Let Myers play out his contract unless he somehow gets any return at the deadline that does not involve cap back. Stay out of UFA market this year. Retention no longer than the upcoming season or maybe 2 if it is Brock and the return is excellent. Build up the system to feed the team instead of trading pics and prospects for players near big extensions when we have no flexibility.

Playoff games are such a different animal
DrJockitch replied to tan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Yes, the problem is obvious, our D spends over 13 million on 2 players that need protection, we have no partner for Hughes and our wingers are small, not terribly fast, not very tough and not exactly filled with high end talent. Demko, Hughes and EP are not our problem, it is almost everything around them. -
Not sure there is much there for option number 2 short of the core players. I think it is really 3 and 4 we will see this off-season. Next years first will be used to buy cap space to get a UFA 3rd line centre that will leave us with the question of how are we going to clear cap space for the following season to fit the $20M dollars being payed to Pettey and Hronek.

[Proposal] Crouse for Boeser
DrJockitch replied to BabychStache's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
We would have to retain half I would think. We gave them Guenther to get him, going to give them another first to take him back? -
So your saying as good as ours.

I agree Demko is many great things but sturdy is not one of them. Hopefully Silovs will hop between Abby and Van next year and get a good number of starts between the two.
-
Hard to say. I would say our ownership will make it very challenging to compete for the cup because the stress is always expediency over quality. I think Florida wins it this year. They have that look to them. Goalie hot at right time, team came together at right time.
-
Just think after trading first for Hronek we need young guys coming in on ELCs over the next couple of years. Trading our first this year for someone much closer to needing to get paid when we are still in a tough cap position would be trouble.

Be curious to see what the Leafs do. Dubas did a good job this year. Will he get fired anyway. He had a good deadline though may have done too much. He didn’t buy into Campbell who Edmonton already regrets. ROR was a good pickup. I bet they re-sign Schenn. Curious to see how they shake the tree. Willy was one of their better players. Marner isn’t going anywhere.

[Proposal] Canucks and Leafs... oof..!
DrJockitch replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Well looking at the size of Dries, the pacifism of Aman and all the small wingers we have I am guessing neither are easy. -

Would need some mean SOBs at 3rd and 4th because that is soft as butter. -
[PROPOSAL] Conor Garland to Calgary Flames
DrJockitch replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Just for the cap savings it is worth it. We get out of $5M one year earlier. Hate to give away pics but if the plan is (and it is) a mad dash for scraping into the playoffs this is a good deal for us anyway. -
Please not another winger, please not another winger, please not another winger.
-
I agree we shouldn’t make that kind of move but this is an impatient management group hired by an impatient owner. I think about what is the best way to manage the team and then expect the opposite to happen. I think they keep this years pick but gamble if they can clear cap that their pick will be low next year. The directives are clear, playoff contender ASAP not necessarily to build to a championship calibre group.

Not sure how tradeable without big retention and/or sweeteners (or cap back). Unfortunately best thing to do is likely wait out Myers, give OEL a shot again and pray one of those wingers gets hot enough next year to be tradeable. As it it stands we have 2 small scoring wingers neither of which are even 20g scorers and aren’t the best defensively. One makes $4M and one $5M. There is not much of a market for those players other than apparently in Vancouver. We can move them but it will thin our already thin prospect and draft pool further. Much of what needs to happen probably should happen through attrition, waiting out Myers and Beau and looking to move Garland on tail end of deal. That being said I would bank on a desperate move to clear cap and expect the price will be next seasons first. The money will get spent quickly for a regrettable deal which will require more assets to be cleared the following season to make room for EP’s and Hronek’s new deals. Crazy way to run a team but that is us.
