  1. These are all great points to make. I think Edler could pass a lot of his skill set onto Juolevi when he does make the team. Could be a very good mentor to him as Salo was over in Finland. It only makes it better that Edler played many seasons with Salo so there is a form of familiarity there too, Edler could resonate well with the youngster.
  2. Most people on here are already hacking on him hard like they do on Edler, I think your proficy will be spot on when Joulevi does eventually make the NHL. He will be our new Edler. Most fans can't see clearly what they both bring to the ice. But NHL GM's do and that's why they want and need guys like this on their blue line. Not sexy, just get the job done and most nights keep the ice tilted in the other direction...but they ain't perfect and they have off games, and can look terrible. But 80 % of the games they play they are solid at what they do. Very good observation!
  3. .....So does this mean Tryamkin is never coming back!!?? Vancouver is dope city, now it is dope country, I no want that for my family, I stay in Russia, no dope!
  4. I'm a fan, really like the guy. Plus has a fighters story in that he is a cancer survivor but is still fighting through it. End of last season he talked about himself gettting "chemo brain" and had troubles doing the game summeries at the end of last year. He's a very positive guy and loves to watch our kids play. I'm rooting for him to see his fight through.
  5. Ohh they really got you, i'm sorry to hear that. They have great articles that aren't Canuck related, but the Canuck content is lacking at best.
  6. Agreed, I fell into that trap as well. Him and Botchford now...money well spent? I don't think so.
  7. ...I just realized I plussed you and your post was from Sept 21...i'm a bit behind haha. But he has been looking good again this season with the Comets. Liking the Joulevi and Chatfield pairing too!
  8. OH BOY, we have another reverse hit guy in our system. Love it. Him and Jake will be wrecking balls for our team. Woo is physical enough he could push for a spot next year. Is he eligible for the AHL next year Sid? Thanks
  9. How did his skating look? I think once he improves his skating he will have a legitmate chance to make the NHL. Rooting for the guy!
  10. He had great chemistry with Boucher down on the farm. He looked like a different player in the ahl. Confident, and was always a scoring threat. He has good release on his one timer, very snappy and quick and doesn't need much of a wind up. It's good to see him finally clicking with someone other than Boucher. His confidence is growing at the NHL level finally! And maybe this this all makes sense, as we all know Pettersson looooves GOLD!
  11. Ugh, that doesn’t sound good. You called it. Another season shallow down the middle. However, Cull is a great up and coming coach. He’s crafty enough to keep the Comets competitive like last season in my opinion. I more clearly see your point on why Gagne would be an asset to the team tho, if the coach is saying it already it really does have to be an issue!
  12. Maybe we need to bring Sid in on this topic? I am curious to know as well. Not much garnered from a quick google search on my end..didn't try too hard tho as I'm at work..speaking of which better log off before I get busted haha!
  13. I get all that, but I think it was solid of them to let him play in his home town, close to his family. Respect goes a long way in the NHL...I don't doubt it was part damage control by management to do this as well as it looks bad signing a guy for 3 years and year 2 you're waiving him, but I digress. I think you are right with your points on a play making centre. Very good issue to bring up! But I respect their decision to let him play closer to home. Also a question worth asking, is can they pull him off the Marlins roster and put him on Uticas roster? Or are they restricted on moving him back to their farm team?
  14. I found that interesting too. He says he isn't connected anymore, but we all know he is still plugged in to know things better than most do. Very interesting indeed. That being said, I hope he's wrong. I'm not giving up on Jake yet. I wanna see this season go down before I make final judgements on him. If Jake is not growing by seasons end he could still be very valuable to hold onto as a premier 3rd line forward, I have no issues with that. But if perhaps there was opportunity to obtain higher end offensive talent I can see why managment would entertain the idea. They are in desperate need of offence. I still would not want them to give up on jake as I think he has great long term potential. But he will be a slow cooker, his mind needs to mature and catch up with his feet.
  15. Let's hope for a speedy return to form for him. He was a big part of the Comets blue line before he went down. I'm rooting for the kid. Thanks for the update, I was actually a bit worried he wouldn't clear as he has had some decent exposure to scouts in the league. They know he's a good player, but has injury history.
  16. It was a great pairing last year. I'm sure we'll see more of them together this season too. Heck, if Edler has another good year flanked with Guddy i'd be into re-signing him for a few more seasons. We don't have a solid 1/2 pairing yet, hopefully they can be it. Also, i've been very happy with Guddys offense so far this pre season. I was hoping when we got him from FLA that he would turn into a Boychuck type Dman for us. Plays hard and physical shut down style we need, but can bomb a few in from the point. If Guddy can get some PP time maybe we could see 20-25 pts this year from him. Boychuck has a similar development curve as him. He broke out at age 26 with the Bruins. He's not a first PP guy, but really helps the secondary PP out with his shot. Guddy could be that for us this year and possibly going forward (I know, rose coloured glasses).
  17. Yeah I bought it this year! Finally the AHL comes to their senses on their pricing. I could never justify spending money on their seasons pass before.
  18. You have a lot of great points. I have seen the same in Juolevi. And I agree that Sautner was being too aggressive on some plays. I think on Sautners part tho is that they have told him he needs to play that way to be effective, I remember him saying as much last year. I feel like he's now over exagerating that part of his game as that's what made him noticable last season. I hope he eventually rounds out his game, I love his physical play. But as you said he needs to learn when and where to use that muscle. On a side note. I see you're fairly new to CDC. So welcome on board! With your background in scouting I will be looking out for your posts. Always need another knowledgable guy around here. Cheers
  19. Anyone else thinking we're gonna carry 2 extra forwards and 1 extra d man going into this season? It's so hard to tell thru these exhibition games how the offensive lines will be made up. With all these question marks it makes sense to carry 2 extra forwards going into the season to see how things really shake out. This may be a moot point with Rousell and Eriksson down at the moment. But if they do come back sooner rather than later I can still see this scenario playing out till they are sure where the offense is going to come from. EDIT: And I know it's Bennings preference to have 2 spare D instead of 2 spare FWDs. Sorry moving post, meant to post this on the game thread lol.
  20. Last time I checked hockey is still a team game. Look at all the "phenom" players in the leauge. Eichel, Matthews, McDavid all are upcoming but you don't win unless you surround them with the proper players. They ain't raised no stanley cup yet. And to get that far you need to play a solid team game. Highest scorer means JACK come play off time.
  21. He is shifty that is for sure. His defensive awareness is almost Datsyukian like. Datsyuk didn't rely on size and strenght but smarts. He had some amazing ways of taking pucks away from his opponents. EP has that kind of defensive sneakyness to him. He finds ways to intercept and take away the puck that most wouldn't dare or even think of. I really like what i'm seeing.
  22. I don't care for his music...but I sure hope the days of hearing Cold Play blaring in the dressing room is gone now that the Sedins have retired...
  23. Your boy Motte played a great game last night too. Unfortunately with this 1 game left of waiver eligibility he will be fodder for the farm. But no doubt he is tops on the call up list as soon as an injury happens. The guy is relentless in his puck persuit. He's a smaller version of Hansen, mini badger! I was impressed by him last night.
  24. For sure I was very happy with the team pushing the Marlies back as far as they did. They absolutely tore through the next 2 rounds, I think won both 4-0. Then went 4-3 against texas stars at the end. I could only imagine how far the Comets would have went if they didn't get matched up against the Marlies in the 1st round!
  25. Yeah I read it, the writer is obviously very pro analytics and his article is slanted in that approach to gauging Sutter as a player. Then goes on to say this (see below) about him in the same article...basically stating that Sutter has dog s**t numbers because he gets put with lesser line mates then breezes on to the rest of his SLAM column on him as if "oh well, the stats can't count that and it would be pure speculation...but the numbers still say he sucks so we'll stick with that"....When really everything they write about analytics wise is ALL pure speculation, which is why they always use terms like "maybe" and "most likely" or "possibly"...they aren't sure themselves LOL. "As such, quality of competition was likely a greater factor for Sutter than it is in most cases. That’s all we can really say though; analysis beyond this scope would be speculative at best.
