You do realize that would give us around $14 million in cap as well, right? You would get those assets and a Forsberg + a top 4 RHD in free agency/Trade with a team pushing the cap.

I hope we trade a couple top guys for picks and tank the next couple years in order to become a contender in the long run. A couple lottery picks and a couple extra first rounders would go a long way. Being way under the cap and capitalizing on other teams in cap crunches would be ideal.

Garland sounds about right here. Another add from Vancouver but it’s a solid base.

Why split up Podz/Horvat/Garland?

I think Podkolzin gets rewarded tonight. I’m shocked to hear Garland say he has one of the hardest shots he’s ever seen.

We don’t have a second round pick this year. Went in the OEL Garland trade.

Being a realist here, it’s inevitable that we lose and at this point when we do we are out. I personally hope we rip the bandaid off tonight so we can start improving our draft position. This is the first time I have felt this way since Bruce took over. Playoff’s are now not realistic and we will be in the lottery this year, let’s start improving our odds.

Halak is an ex Blue and has played in that building plenty. Saving Demko for our divisional games so he’s fresh is a no brainer. Playing Halak after coming off that huge win in Colorado should have him in the right mindset, especially with the TDL over and done with.

You can sign Severson for free this year as a UFA.

He wasn’t even asked to waive his no trade because nobody wanted him probably without 50% retention. The whole goal here is to free up cap space, no pay for players to play on other teams.

This season is a write off, if they make the playoffs that’s great, if not who cares? What is the point of tearing the team apart at the trade deadline? Maybe 10 out of 32 teams were going to be in on our players, if you wait until the draft you have all 32 open for Buisness. You can’t shed cap at the trade deadline with any of the teams that you’d be involved with at the trade deadline because they are already trying to get retention etc. Our management had no market for our only other UFA this year in Halak, they traded Motte for the best they could get. We somehow pulled a rabbit out of a hat and got rid of Hamonic who had another year on his contract for a pick. Nobody wanted Pearson, Dickinson, Poolman etc etc and do you blame them? You wanted to trade Garland for the sake of trading him? Get low ball offers for Boeser due to his qualifying offer? Trade Miller for teams second tier prospects because no one was offering blue chips? Have a little patience with the new management! They know what they are doing and what they are looking for in return, if they don’t get it they have some time to be patient.

This team was always going to be tinkered with during the off-season. I expect at the draft we see some fireworks. Lots of the foundation for deals have probably already been set by the deadline here.
