  1. Has Sutter been playing wing? If so - that’s a relief that he’s playing well there. Gaudette has also registered a point. I take it that the Ferland-Gaudette-Sutter line has been effective? On paper, that line does look like a very good 3rd line.
  2. He’s competing and he’s working hard. That’s the most important thing and that’s what’s going to impress Travis Green and his teammates.
  3. Canucks are donkey punching LA left, right, and center. I like. Jonathan Quick has really fallen. Or so it seems this far anyway. Age gets the best of all of us, but I just think back to those 2012 and 2014 playoffs where he was just invincible.
  4. I don’t think Trevor is in good graces with this Management group right now. If it was up to management, the only way Linden would be a part of this ceremony right now was if he was shot out of a cannon into the Pacific Ocean.
  5. Keep Sutter until we are ABSOLUTELY SURE that Gaudette is ready to be a good 3rd line Center at the NHL level.
  6. Only a few more hours away!
  7. I suggested an idea like this in the Summer (Gaudette for the defensive equivalent, in terms of age and potential), but I don’t think it’s very realistic. I think teams (Vancouver included), would rather hold onto their prized possessions to see how they pan out, as opposed to moving them. The guys that came to my mind this past Summer were Bode Wilde and Dante Fabbro, but I can’t see either of those teams making the trade. And honestly? Given the way that the role of the 3rd line Center has been changing over the last few years (ie scoring center as opposed to being a shut down guy), I think the Canucks have an organizational need for Gaudette. I want to see what a line of Ferland-Gaudette-Virtanen can do.
  8. I lived in Lethbridge for a year back in 2012. I ate my first egg roll and man made porridge down there. I’m currently living in Beijing however. I’m originally from Vancouver Island.
  9. It would be foolish to trade Gaudette right. Ow since his value is on the rise (and to what extent we don’t know). It would only make sense to trade Gaudette for another prospect (young defensive prospect) that also appeared to be on the rise. However - why would a potential trading partner be willing to give up such a piece? Doesn’t seem likely. i had suggested an Adam Gaudette for Bode Wilde proposal this past Summer, but I think both teams would greatly prefer to hold on to their young prized and developing assets.
  10. I don’t think the Canucks have enough organizational depth to roll 4 lines. What will end up happening is you’ll create 4 “watered down” lines with each line lacking a definitive role or purpose: Here is what I think the Canucks need to do: 1) Make their top line more potent. Can Ferland play with our big two? Yes. Would that line be among the top lines in hockey? Not even close. All elite teams have atleast one scoring line that has the ability to completely take over a game. We’ve seen with both Edmonton and Calgary these past two games. My vote goes for Miller here. Put Miller with Pettersson and Boeser. Miller is smart, physical, and passes extremely well. He also has a decent defensive game that could complement his linemates. 2) A 3rd line that has a realistic chance of producing on a consistent basis. One thing that is annoying me about this management group, is their insistence that any combination of Gaudette, Sutter, Eriksson, Virtanen, Leivo, Baertschi, and Goldobin can consistently produce offense and goals for us. They can’t!!!! And they probably never will! IF the Canucks are going to get offense from their 3rd line, they’ll need one of Ferland, Pearson, or Miller down there.......AND, you’ll need Gaudette to develop enough to the point where Sutter can be replaced. 3) Pretty much anyone can play with Pearson and Horvat. One thing I don’t understand about Management and fans, is why they made it such a big priority to “get a playmate for Horvat.” Horvat already produces extremely well on the 2nd line, and already showed excellent chemistry with both Pearson and Baertschi. 2nd line scoring was never really an issue for us thanks to Horvat. In my opinion, the combination of Horvat/Pearson or Horvat/Baertschi (If Pearson gets injured) will always be a good and steady 2nd line for us, regardless of who plays “shotgun” on that right side. Lines: Miller-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson/Baertschi-Horvat-[Anyone] Ferland-Gaudette-Virtanen Schaller/Roussel-Beagle-Motte
  11. My only concern with Hughes-Myers is that they might get lit up. While Hughes’ defensive play is better than what I had thought it would be, it’s still not his strong suit. .....and we all know what Myers defensive game is like. It’s worth experimenting with however I guess. Pairing these guys and giving them on higher percentage of Ozone starts could pay its dividends. Actually, I just had a thought: You could pair the defensemen in such a way where it caters to their specialities: 1). Myers and Hughes for all/most Ozone starts. 2) Benn and Tanev for all/most defensive zone starts. 3) Edler and Stecher for more dual balanced roles.
  12. I pretty much agree with the above. One thing that has caught me off guard about Miller is his playmaking ability (it’s much better than I thought). As far as Ferland goes, he’s been fighting the flu a bit and so I’ll hold off on any judgement for now. I do agree however that Miller should replace Ferland on that line. Miller is a better overall player, and all top teams have atleast one top line that has the ability to take over a game. We had that with the WCE, and we had that with the twins and Burrows. I also like the idea of Ferland being an on-ice mentor for Virtanen and then forming a hard hitting 3rd line together. Based on what I’ve seen so far, that 3rd line cannot and should not consist of any combination of Gaudette, Virtanen, Sutter, Eriksson, or Leivo as the offense produced from said lines will be very minimal. One of Miller, Pearson, or Ferland should be down there, and my vote would go towards Ferland. With regards to Hughes, I already like the chemistry that he’s developing with Pettersson. I’d experiment with putting Hughes and Tanev on the top pairing.
  13. Messier for both answers? In all seriousness, I’d go with Henrik for the Canucks as greatest captain of all-time. Henrik had all of Linden’s off-ice attributes, but was also a legitimate superstar in the league. Linden, at his peak, was always a very very good player, but was never considered to be a superstar or amongst the best on the league. As far as all-time goes, I’d probably have to go with Stevie Y. He has four cups on his resume, and could also be used in any kind of forward role. He could be play wing, be used in a scoring role, or be used to shut down.
  14. Hilarious how the braying donkeys at HF/Canucks and the “JD Burke crew” are having a mental breakdown over this.
  15. We have Fantenberg, Brisebois, and Juolevi for that. Our young guys need to get some NHL exposure since they promise to be apart of our future.
  16. This trade seems to be have been done as a favor to Alex Biega, so that he could get a realistic crack on an NHL team. It’s like when the Leafs gave us Josh Leivo. Despite his limitations, Biega is a guy that gave it his all for us. As far as defensive depth goes, I’m not overly worried. While Biega is a slight upgrade over guys like Brisebois and Juolevi right now, guys like Brisebois and Juolevi could use the call-up exposure in case of injuries. The Canucks need to get their young defensemen some NHL exposure. All in all, I think it was a classy move by Jim Benning and the Vancouver Canucks’ organization. I wish Alex Biega nothing but the best of luck.
  17. Good post. It’s one of the reasons why I’m in favor of placing Miller with Pettersson and Boeser. Let Ferland play with Gaudette and Virtanen (good 3rd line), while Pearson and Horvat get Leivo.
  18. Based on the two games I’ve seen so far, I’m wondering if it would be better to see the flashy Myers with the steady Benn. Edler gets paired again with Stecher. Edler-Stecher Benn-Myers Hughes-Tanev As Hughes continues to grow his game, you could then move the Hughes-Tanev tandem to a higher pairing. Eriksson-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Virtanen Ferland-Gaudette-Miller Schaller-Beagle-Sutter Edler-Stecher Benn-Myers Hughes-Tanev 1) Eriksson has chemistry with Pettersson at the World’s and can perhaps be the defensive conscience of that first line. 2) Virtanen’s physical game could match well with Horvat’s and Pearson’s (although I do admit that Horvat and Pearson are better suited to having a playmaker on that right side). Still - if Virtanen can match Horvat’s work ethic on that line (monkey see monkey do), then that line could turn into something. 3) Gaudette gets strong linemates. Overall net result = balanced attack.
  19. Canucks will go 80-0 the rest of the way. :-p In all seriousness, I think it goes back to what I was saying in another thread: The Canucks have to find a way to either create two elite scoring lines (which I don’t think they are capable of since they aren’t an elite team as of yet), OR create three “good” scoring lines (which I think they are capable of). 1) Get someone to ride “shotgun” with Pettersson and Boeser on the top line. 2) Get someone to ride shotgun with Horvat and Pearson on the 2nd line. 3) Play Gaudette, Miller, and Ferland together to create a very good 3rd line. This will also give Gaudette a good opportunity to grow his game at the NHL level. The rest of the guys on the roster, and even guys down in Utica such as Baertschi and Goldobin, can be motivated and rewarded to play well so that these guys can get a chance to be the guy riding shotgun on the top two lines. If I’m someone like Virtanen, Eriksson, or whoever, I would be creaming my pants at the opportunity.
  20. Living overseas, I don't get to watch the games in their entirety (I'm dependent on the 8 minute youtube highlights), but it does seem like the Canucks are much better at transitioning the puck out from the back-end (although they still look quite vulnerable to the forecheck). Hughes looks very good out there. It's a very small sample size obviously, but I really think the Canucks need to try and wed themselves to one of the following two ideas: 1) Try and create two elite scoring lines. 2) Try and create three "good" scoring lines. While I think the Canucks are attempting to do #1, I'm just not sure if there's enough talent to roll with that. In other words, if those top two lines get shut down by elite opposition, then the chances of the Canucks getting anything out of their bottom 6 seems very minimal at best. As it stands right now, our bottom 6 is basically two 4th lines and it's very difficult to win with that. As was the case last year, I think there might be too much undue to pressure on the top two lines to produce (only difference being that last year, for the first half of the season, Pettersson was able to fly under the radar). Getting back to my main point, I think the Canucks should strongly consider option #2.............and I think a big part of option #2 is maximizing Adam Gaudette by playing him with strong linemates (i.e. not Virtanen and Leivo). 1) Have Pettersson and Boeser anchor the top line. 2) Horvat and Pearson anchor the 2nd. 3) Gaudette plays with Miller and Ferland 4) Have a revolving door in terms of the wingers and players playing on the top two lines. If someone is playing well, said player can be rewarded with top six ice-time riding shot gun on the top two lines.
