  3. I just wanted to thank everyone for all the kind words and well wishes. You’ve all been pretty awesome and I appreciate it.

My main problem is both of my kidneys failed, for those who were wondering.

I will be undergoing some tests to determine if I qualify for a transplant.

Fortunately, I have many people who are willing to see if they are a match and  can give me a kidney, so that’s why I decided against being put on a waiting list, which would be 5 years or so because of my age and blood type.

However, I have been informed that there is only a 25% chance that I would survive the operation.

Having said that, it’s my only chance, so I have to take it and I’m not giving up.

I just wanted you all to know what’s going on with me, in case the worst happens.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully you’ll find a good match and better odds for a successful outcome.  Modern marvels of medicine do contribute to miracles.

Saskatoon is a great city, lived there for 5 years.   Weather extremes were hard to get used to, growing up on the island

I don’t get these youngins who want to go out in “a blaze of glory”.  What kind of screwed up personality wants to do this?  With access to firearms, we’re probably looking at a much higher body count. Slowly turning into the US.

Joe, If they’re small enough <5mm,  most pass on their own.  Flomax (prostate/urination) drug can help too provided not too big.

It’s actually way more tolerable with the stent.  Still hurts to pee but not too bad.  Toradol is the drug of choice (very potent NSAID) and worked well for me.  Narcotics (Dilaudid) are the next choice if Toradol doesn’t work effectively.  Thanks Ghost.

I can confirm the agony part.  Worst pain of my life.  Unfortunately still in the ureter, too big to come out on its own and ureter too narrow for ureteroscope to get up.  Stent in place to dilate ureter and round 2 in 6-7 weeks.

  17. As a recently retired Ultrasound tech, I’ve scanned thousands of kidneys for stones over my career.  I’ve always known Renal colic can be very painful, but until Thursday night when I was introduced personally to it, Holy mother ;) still working it’s way down the ureter.

I’ve scanned many women over that career and 90% told me they would rather have another baby than another kidney stone.  Who knows, maybe it’s the prize at the end of labour ;)

Me:  Tiramisu.  I really like to get the family size at Whole Foods, but it's only 4 servings.  I could eat tiramisu all day along.
