  1. Especially before extending Pettersson long term...Benning special, go use up your cap before you lock up BOTH Hughes and EP to 8yr 8m contracts...Now we have to pay EP at least 2-3m more cap hit wise 5 years sooner all cause we traded for Schmidt and that took up 5.9m in cap space ugh...Benning is Canada's Garth Snow?!?!?
  2. if you make millions and you eff it up, i have ZERO sympathy for you...Invest your money wisely and you are more than setting up yourself and your kids etc if your an NHL pro who has a 5-10yr career imo. Let alone someone making Petey type money now let alone his new raise. I ain't greedy, some want the 70m big jackpot...I would be very happy with the $500k extra and pay off my house and use the rest to buy a rental property to provide me with additional income. Then sell it when I want to retire. So, no I don't think that is being greedy...
  3. thought Barzal was, he got the barzal bridge with an extra 350k. Now he has a 100pt season, barzal got hurt and is signed for 9.15m or something. Going to cost 1m more than Barzal to sign EP. Hopefully not much more, if he is that greedy then he could have the same success as some of those laff players. Players are greedy these days, i get they have short careers but we are talking about millions per year. Us normal folk work year round for 50 years and make a fraction of what some NHL players make in 1 season...
  4. NHL needs tro crack down on teams for this stuff...Matt Murray was healthy and practicing as the #3G during the playoffs, so unless he hurt himself during the off season this makes no sense. But the NHL will turn a blind eye cause its the center of the hockey universe's team...complete garbage, should have made the laffs buy him out and have dead cap for the following year too, now they get out of his contract this year with no cap penalty for the 24/25 season.
  5. MacK AINT WORTH 14M... He said a couple years back he would take less again to help ice a competitive team, guess winning the cup threw that out the window. But compared to what NBA players get...Some Celtic just got over 300m for 5 years, guy aint won shit individually or championship wise either!!!
  6. Chicago been handing out 4m for over the hill players like Perry and Foligno, they could as could other teams...offer sheets just rarely happen and when they do usually there is payback from the team like Carolina and Montreal, Canucks and Blues back in the day. If we had cap space, it is worth the risk probably. I would trade Beau for a pick and consider going after Laf or try to trade for him first and if the ask is crazy then you could do an offer sheet if you really thought this player could turn it around and help us. Big year ahead for Hog and Pod, they need to take the next step and be at worst top 9 contributors if not then going after Laf might be a thing of the past if he gets dealt or offer sheeted this off season or dealt at the 2024 TDL. Canucks have too many wingers, need to try to move some but might have to wait till early 2024 or the TDL. Also, Laf was a C in junior was he not but only been playing wing in the NHL? Has more value if he is seen as a C vs W
  7. Given how injury riddled Dermott was during his 2 years as a Canuck I was not surprised to see us not qualify him and walk away. With him injured, among other D it allowed us to see call ups show well in Wolanin, Brisebois, Juulsen, Hirose and McWard (small sample). It still sucks to see us lose that 3rd round pick for next to nothing but we had to sign and retain the previous mentioned players given their good showing when in the NHL for the most part. Wish Dermott all the best, if he is healthy he should have a decent shot at an opening day roster spot I would assume...its Arizona, off the top of my head in this heavily fatigued, extreme amount of pain i am in moment I can not list of a 7 man D group for the Coyotes...Stecher, Valimaki, Durzi (just acquired) . Moser, Dermott now oh and Shea Weber of course how could I forget him...
  8. Cheers OP! I think I mentioned something along these lines in a thread on this forum recently or if I didnt here I mentioned it to someone in person recently. After reading your post my preference now is to keep Garland as a near 50pt hopefully 60pt player signed just under 5m in prime years is NOT bad at all! He gets too much hate in my opinion. He should be top 6 winger with JT and Boeser? Di Gusieppe tried real hard last year and got a nice 2 year deal while riding soling minutes on JT Millers wing in top 6. We need a more skilled guy like Hoglander/Pod or a more expensive guy like Boeser or Garland to play in top 6. I then go to think abou the Buffalo deal and I propose this: Beauvillier 4.1m for Lybushkin 2.75m? We clear 1.35m in cap. We trade Myers before game 1 and then sign Suter to a 2-3 yr deal to be #3C then let the better FO% guy be #4C in Blueger or Aman. Or leave Aman #4C and hope his faceoffs improve and use Blueger on wing in bottom 6. Maybe also sign Bear to cheap 1 yr pro rated deal sometime between after Myers trade or after Bear is cleared by MULTIPLE physicians to be cleared to FULL game action. Bear then gets loaned to Abbotsford for a week or 2 for a conditioning stint then gets a call up due to injury, or replace Juulsen or bottom pair or if Lybushkin busts with Hughes then you put Bear with Hughes, they were decent stat wise I think but would prefer a D partner for Hughes to have more SIZE so a trade for Lybushkin to me makes sense and worth the gamble for say Beau? That is my 86 cents worth...
  9. I agree, I would have offered 1.1m if it was a 3 year deal as that could be a nice steal for us if Hog hits and becomes a contributing top 9 forward for us. But at the end of the day 200k aint gonna kill the cap and if he can't make our line up and hits waivers we won't have to worry about him clearing as he would get claimed but in the off chance he does clear his cap hit gets buried so again not an issue. Wish Hoglander best of luck, come to camp ready to impress Tocchet as we have seen if he likes a player he will play them and play them up the line up like PDG getting to play with JT Miller
  10. Buffalo interests me... Jokiharju 2.5m - Ideally or Lybushkin 2.75m for Garland 4.95m or beauvillier 4.1m Is Jokiharju capable of playing with Hughes??? Remember he was a 1st round pick of CHicago who they traded early on for A. Nylander...Where is Sabresfan when you need him...he still MIA on this site???
  11. I agree with you, it will be odd seeing a large #7 in a Canucks jersey but always liked the # due to Ronning and wanted it to be used by players more. Ronning, tanti and Gino should be in the ring of honour imo
  12. Best move for the Canucks is to hold on to Myers and trade him with retention at the TDL regardless of where we are in the standings and get back a draft pick. Same goes for Pearson if he can come to camp healthy and play in the NHL, wish him all the best and hope he comes back and plays decent then is shipped off for another pick or prospect at the TDL. Canucks need to NOT lose players for free imo as in a couple years we will be trying to ADD at the TDL so getting a couple picks or prospects back at this upcoming TDL should be a priority. The team has added 2 D and a C, so there is no panic to pay to move a player out like Myers. Keep him and trade him at the TDL we suffered watching him for years might as well get a pick back in return for all that suffering!
  13. Blueger will be asked why #53 immediately by Vancouver media. He wore it for years in Pittsburgh, wore #23 his last year in the AHL, unsure about college #. There must be some meaning behing him wearing #53. Canuck fans should have no issue with him doing so, I do NOT...Horvat was a good player for us, he wanted $ and was a shoot first C wanting a payday, Canucks made the right choice to move on from BO at his extension numbers. Horvat will NOT have his # retired or in the ring of honour so should NOT matter who wears #53 in a Canuck jersey going forward imo. We did not have any succuess while Horvat was here, that is the main reason for him not getting any recognition post retirement from me. And, his stats don't warrant it sad to say
  14. It is fairly common for players from outside North America to have an out clause where they either play in the NHL or they go play for a local home team Vs playing in the AHL riding a bus for sub 100k/year
  15. Are we left with Dumba and Mayfield as the top RHD UFA's? Or are there some other players to mention as well ?
  16. time to finally lock this up, Deb the honours are all yours!
  17. This is what I figure will happen, trade of Myers on September 16th, then we would just give him away for futures to clear the 6m cap hit. San Jose has the cap space, but would only pay Myers 1m salary then could double flip Myers at the TDL 75% retained for a 2nd or 3rd round pick
  18. I do NOT think Vancouver has any interest in Klingberg with Hughes taking most of the PP time alone. Dumba, could see us going after him I suppose but think we need to move out more salary if they want to add 2 top 4 D one lefty and one right plus a #3C and some grit...tough task given our cap space
  19. Seravelli mentioned Canucks talking to San Jose about Myers, anyone know if that is legit?
  20. Does it really make sense to give up assets or dump your SECOND best 5 on 5 ppg player...Personally, I give Garland more ice time and try him on the PK. Also, Canucks need to resolve their glut of wingers issue yet this regime has done nothing about it...just adding more wingers to the problem and now being stuck with all these wingers who hold little to no value so utilize them better on the team to get the most out of them...this means NOT playing Di Gusieppe in the top 6 next year! good 4th line option but Garland should get that spot over him every game of the season
  21. Stocking the cupboards with RHD prospects, man is that refreshing to see our GM do...Best of luck to him as he continues his development!
  22. Skating is a concern eh...well it won't be due to his weight, tipping the scales at a whopping 156lbs I would have thought speed would be his LEAST worrysome attribute. Best of luck to him and his development!
  23. interesting that we used a 4th round pick on a player who was TWICE passed in the NHL draft, we haven't had success doing this in the passed with Tryamkin, Mallet come to mind but a twice passed over guy seems more like a FA signing vs using a draft pick. Let's hope this wildcard selection develops into something for us! Best of luck to him but have to think multiple vancover media people are going to trash using a 4th on this guy given his age and being passed over TWICE before...but maybe I am wrong and they will love the pick!?
