  1. Apparently, the following was at the San Jose arena last night (read the first letter of each word):
  2. That is the key to me - which team really wants him that badly that they'll be willing to sign him to the long-term deal that his production dictates he deserves? At the very least, those should be the teams that the various trade proposals here should be using. When people were talking about JT to the Rangers, for example, from what I gathered from the Rangers fans, it wasn't clear to me that they viewed him as the long-term 1C. I believe they are genuinely concerned about his age. Vegas wanted Eichel to be their long-term 1C. He was injured but given that it's Vegas (i.e., gambling city), clearly, they were willing to roll the dice. When Vegas signed Pietrangelo, what I gathered from the Vegas forums is that they think he'll still be productive on the tail end of his deal.
  3. I'm actually not challenging what you're saying - no need to be sensitive. I'm just wondering which teams we should worry about. If a team's willing to pay JT franchise player money, then they would need to have cap space and view him as the franchise forward that they're looking for.
  4. Sorry, I know I'm being lazy, but which teams do we think will fork up enough money to pay Miller whatever he's worth? And what would that contract look like?
  5. OEL to +/- of +6 or higher for the highest +/- of his career (currently, he is at his career best +/- of +5).
  6. Garland to Hughes - what a combination! They clearly see eye-to-eye. Like, literally.
  7. One more point and Petey eclipses his season-high for points.
  8. What they were showing in the broadcast was that the Stars needed to win in regulation to clinch. So it sounds like Vegas still has a chance?
  9. From my understanding, no. Dallas needed to win in regulation to clinch.
  10. There is always next year. Team showed a lot of character. We dug ourselves too deep a hole. The future is bright. And so forth and so on...
  11. Oh, I take credit for their win today. It happened soon after I posted this.
  12. Timo Meier before facing Vegas today: “Every game we want to win, but tomorrow is definitely a special one against these guys, who we have some history against. So yeah, we’re definitely excited to play against them tomorrow, and we’re going bring our best." Their "best" means getting outshot 2 to 1 - what a sad effort.
  13. I'm very curious to hear whether Rutherford and Allvin have changed their minds on their original estimate of when this team will be competitive - 2 years before the Canucks are competitive. Here's the full quote: "There’s a lot of good teams in this league. If you look at the teams that did a total rebuild, it’s nice to see those teams doing well now, but everybody forgets about the four or five years they had to go through — tough years — to get there. I would like to think with the players we have that this team can be retooled and that we can get it to a point that we get more comfortable over a two year period that we can get it to contend again, but I can’t sit here and guarantee that that’s how long it’s gonna take. Sometimes you get some good luck on some players where you make a move and sometimes it doesn’t work out.”
  14. Now that the Canucks are out, will the "insiders" finally actually start divulging the supposed locker room issues within the team? Off the top of my head, Lalji, Hirsch, Dhaliwal, Seravalli, Drance, Friedman (?) are the ones that have mentioned dressing room issues.

There aren’t any dressing room issues. If there was I bet it had something more to do with coaching than anything. You don’t play the way the Canucks have these last 50 games or whatever it is if there’s dressing room issues

I think its name was Hamonic

      Post-firings:

      • Farhan (with Drance, I believe) on Canucks management (April 20, 2022): "They want it to be built and look the way they're comfortable with...We both know there's a bit of a culture issue in the room...We really can't say more quite yet. They want to change the chemistry and culture in that room."
      • Seravalli (March 21, 2022): "The change in the room, like, multiple players have reached out to say what a breath of fresh air it was after getting rid of Travis Hamonic."

      Pre-firings:

      • Dhaliwal (November 26, 2021): "I had a significant agent tell me this morning this is the stuff that will drive players not to play in Vancouver."
      • Donnie (November 25, 2021): "Donnie just said that everyone is talking about a Miller v Horvat split in the dressing room but the thing they've heard is that it might be more of a situation where it's a Miller led veteran group that's fed up with the younger players on the team"
      • Hirsch (November 14, 2021): "The problem isn't on the bench, the problem is in the locker room. These guys don't buy into the system... one of the biggest alpha dogs in the room doesn't buy into it, and when he doesn't, nobody else does and that's leadership.  "
  15. What has JR and Allvin done so far that merits that much praise? Remember that Bruce wasn't hired by JR - he came before JR. How did they turn this into a perennial playoff team? For the most part, this team is still the same team that Benning built... I'm personally expecting based on JR's and Allvin's comments that there will be a massive change in this team this off-season and am prepared for short-term pain for long-term gain. Iirc, I believe JR said 2 to 4 years.
  16. To be fair, during his first year, Glass had a pretty good pre-season for the Knights. I remember watching him then, and he seemed one step ahead of everybody on offense. At the time, I really thought that Jim Benning blew it. But because of the logjam among the vets, Cody couldn't make it. Then, he had a severe knee injury. Btw, I just checked, and he has 60 points (14 goals, 46 assists) in 63 AHL games this year so he still has a chance.
  17. At this late stage in his career, there's a good probability that he will get offered roughly the same low salary as multiple teams. I'm having a hard time coming up with a compelling reason for him choosing Vancouver over other teams. Taxes in Canada, him being an American, Canadian media, him having played for the hated Maple Leafs (and Bruins), him having already experienced Stanley Cup glory and probably wanting it again soon. Perhaps you can enlighten the rest of us why you seem to think we actually have a chance?
  18. Or the dude's actually a Phil Kessel fan and was just trying to recruit him to join the Canucks when Phil becomes a UFA this summer.
  19. Don't look now, but Petey's about to eclipse his season-high for points. How is that even possible given how badly he played most of the first half of the season???

The realist in me will point out that he's played more games than ever before, allowing him more opportunities to pick up points. His points per game of 0.86 is still quite a bit lower than his first two seasons.

The optimist in me will point out that over his second half of 38 games, he has 46 points, which is 1.21 points per game, significantly above his best years and would put him on pace for 99 points over 82 games.

@JM_ The crazy thing is, as insane as his 17.4% shooting percentage is, it's lower than his current career average of 17.6%. He's just an incredible shooter.

@-AJ-For a while there, he was actually playing on the third line as well.

Yup and you know what. He’s a better player for it. I very certain he’ll have 80-90 points next season
