  1. Would love to see a Dipetro - Demko tandem one day. Re-sign Marky 2 years to share the net with Demko. At the end of the deal Demko will be 26 and Dipietro 23 with 3 years of AHL experience.
  2. I love the deal. I thought we would have to waive Nilsson, possibly lose him for nothing if he got picked up, and then be short a goalie on the farm. Now we get to call-up Demko, pop a goalie in the farm, and we end up with a 6th round pick out of it. The Pyatt for Archibald swap in my eyes is meaningless other than to offset some salary for Ottawa.
  3. I met him and got a photo. We are about the same height, I am 230lbs but I looked about 70lbs heavier. He is surprisingly skinny. That said - I would say he is maybe 200lbs. He was wearing a suit so he might be shredded but definitely doesn't have the overall bulk I expected. When I walked by Mattias Ohlund in Yaletown (and this was after he retired I think) I felt like I was half his width haha. Google imaging him it looks like there is a massive variance in his size. He looks like a dude who can pack on muscle but loses it like crazy when he has to do a lot of cardio. He was more like this: Than this:
  4. This is what I've been saying. He isn't a poor skater but his skating never really makes me think "wow". His passing for the most part is pretty good, but he isn't that dangerous of a goal scorer either and is weak in all other areas. Even in the AHL playoffs he was invisible. When I watched Nylander down in the AHL he was really exciting. Not saying Goldobin is at Nylander's level but as a small skill guy you would hope to see some similarities at a lower level. Outside of great passing on the power play Goldobin looked like a below-average AHLer.
  5. Haha always a good read. It sounds like if we give him the money and slot him into a 2nd pairing spot he would consider coming back: https://thehockeywriters.com/nikita-tryamkin-comfortable-home-khl/ My favourite part of the interview: IE: The Canucks got better this summer. NT: They did a great job. The coaching staff changed almost entirely. I hope that Travis Green will make a good job there. IE: He worked in Utica. And you didn’t join him there. NT: I get to know him during the training camp. We even exchanged a few words. A good person. IE: Willie Desjardins is not? NT: He’s a normal person.
  6. This trade was interesting at the time. I liked the players Calgary got back more than the ones they gave up, but felt the trade was evened out by Adam Fox. That said, at the time you could make a pretty good case for Carolina. Hamilton was supposed to be a step up from Hanifin, and Ferland and Lindholm put up comparable numbers with Ferland also adding the size and toughness factor. PLUS Calgary gave up Adam fox. Ferland and Hanifin are both playing well, as advertised or slightly better whereas Lindholm and Hamilton are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Adam Fox looks great, but it will take a lot for this trade to even out. Throw in Lindholm and Hanifin are younger and are on excellent contracts and Calgary is absolutely laughing.
  7. His defensive play and compete have improved but I am still very iffy on him overall. I really like his play-making ability but he isn't good enough of a goal scorer to make up for other parts of his game. He has skill and is putting up points but keep in mind he is playing with EP so his point totals while decent aren't that impressive. If he was playing with say Gaudette and Virtanen I would imagine he would be facing the waiver wire if the team were to get healthy.
  8. Gaunce is younger and makes half as much money. He has slightly better underlying stats than Schaller, even though Schaller gets 2.5x the % of offensive zone starts. Gaunce scored 4 goals and was even +/- (on a much worse team) vs Schaller's 0 goals and -4. Schaller: ES GA/60 = 3.0 Gaunce: ES GA/60 = 1.7 I honestly didn't mind Gaunce. The stint in the AHL is helping him with his offensive game and is giving him an opportunity to play big minutes as a center. He has been doing great and in my mind the only way Gaunce not only sticks around but has a successful career in the NHL is at centre (in the mould of Jay Beagle or Manny Malhotra).
  9. In the NHL he was a fourth liner, playing with fourth liners, with the highest % of defensive zone starts in the NHL. Not an area for him to succeed offensively. Where he did succeed is defensively, and was near the top in +/- for forwards and had solid underlying stats. So in short, he is a guy you can put out there for 12 minutes and not hurt the team. I wouldn't give him 5 million haha but there is some value there for a cheap young forward. Like him a lot more than Schaller.
  10. I doubt he even got 100 minutes. The Finnish league and AHL are comparable. Granlund for example went from 10 goals in 50 games in the Finnish league and scored 25 in 52 the next year in the AHL. It isn’t just Palmu. Lind and Gadjovich who looked like steals in the second round are having similar issues. Even Dahlen struggled early but seemed to have been a step above the others and now he is crushing it. Seems like our AHL coaching staff sucks.
  11. If he keeps going like this the team will have to change their name to the Woose Jaw Warriors
  12. I went through every Finnish defenseman drafted beyond 1990 and looked at both their Finnish stats and OHL stats to find comps. Based on Juolevi's numbers he actually projects to be around a 40 point dman. Not bad at all, certainly not worthy of the criticism.
  13. Right now I would go Dahlin, Tkachuk, Kotkaniemi, Svechnikov, Hughes. I do think there is a good chance Hughes moves into that third spot. Funny, Sens fans and Habs fans were both angry about passing in Zadina but Tkachuk and Kotkaniemi are both looking great
  14. Our power play is going to be killer. We are already middle of the pack with injuries and no PP quarterbacks. IF Brock, Edler, and Baertschi have been healthy we would likely be top 10. Two more powerplay specialists in Juolevi and Huges on the way. On top of that , we will likely be getting another piece in the draft. We could ice two very strong units.
  15. I find it interesting comparing Jasek to Palmu. Palmu plays in North American for junior, puts up dominant numbers his final year. Then he goes to the Liiga which is unanimously the third best European league and wins rookie of the year with 36 points in 59 games (.61 points/game). Juolevi scored .5 points/game on the same team. In the AHL, Palmu has 1 point, Juolevi has 13. Jasek played in a weaker league (Czech league is likely around 5th or 6th best in Europe) and scores just 18 in 48 (.375 points/game) in what was his 4th pro season there. Now he has 16 points in 23 AHL games (0.7 points/game). Palmu and Jasek are the exact same age. I was really excited about our "B" prospects this year (Juolevi is an "A" prospect). I'd define a B prospect as someone who is drafted recently in the 2nd round, they have a fair amount of excitement or discussion around them (won awards, world juniors etc.), and are players who anticipate to at least play a game in the NHL at some stage. They include Lind, Gadjovich, Dahlen, and Palmu. Dahlen has been OK but the rest have a combined five points this year. I expected maybe one of them to struggle, one of them to succeed, and the others to put around at around a point every other game. But they are looking almost destined to being sent to the ECHL. Our "C" prospects are carrying the team. They include MacEwen, Carcone, Jasek, and McEneny. Now to be fair Carcone and MacEwen are older and aren't rookies and McEneny is almost too old to be considered a prospect.
  16. This was very noticeable when I saw him play against the Marlies. The way he moved around the ice between whistles reminded me of a teenager being yelled at to go clean their room.
  17. He is a great 1B goalie. When he is on he is great and he can play well over stretches. But when he sucks he really sucks and can play poorly over long stretches as well.
  18. I watch about four live per year. The AHL is kind of like watching two bottom six lines play each other with maybe 1 or 2 guys from each team showing a high skill set. Goldobin got knocked around a lot.
  19. Crazy how he has the exact same number of goals and assists
  20. Sign Duchene. Sign Hodgson 1 year $800K. Sign Grachev 1 year $800K. Grachev - Hodgson - Duchene. Asset management.
  21. My house is one neighbourhood over from little Jamaica. Walking through there on a Friday night is like a giant hot box Most areas though I wouldn't say it is quite as much out in the open but pretty much everybody here does it. They just don't talk about it as much which is more just a cultural thing I noticed between Vancouverites and Torontonians. Vancouver attitudes overall are much more collectivist.
  22. I suggested Gudbranson + 2020 2nd round pick for Cody Ceci and a 5th on HF boards. Did not go over well haha.
  23. He was with Archibald and I believe MacEewan. Edit: my initial thought was Carcone - Mac played with them on the PP and had doubts when Carcone and Archie were both listed as LW MacEwan and Macmaster are the most under the radar guys in our system. Big Mac looks great. Speed, size and skill. Reminds me of Grenier but plays a smoother game.
  24. I was at the game - very entertaining! Kulbakov was great then he let in the first goal, and had a very strange reaction. Just crouched over sideways for a good 20 seconds then he sucked after. Gaudette looked great. Was hoping to see more out of Dahlen but he wasn't bad. I like Palmu - he is very strong and his edgework is great. Juolevi was good and bad, he has potential but there is still work to do. It is funny how Salo was wanting to work on his body language - between whistles he sometimes looks like an annoyed teenager told to go clean his room. It is strange. Boucher and Archibald are very good AHL players. I got a chance to meet Jonah Gadjovich breifly. He was just chilling in the concourse. I am used to these games being boring and very physical, this game was high flying.
  25. I am going to the game today! Does anyone know the lineup? I am guessing Dahlen and Palmu back in, Lind and Gadjovich scratched?
