  1. Jokinen played lights out for us, I thought it would have been enough to earn him a $700k contract as a veteran depth option.
  2. Reading a lot of scouting reports on Myers he does remind me a bit of Edler or Bieksa. The ability is evident but struggles with consistency. Myers with the right partner looks like a solid number 3 who can defend, play 20+ minutes per night efficiently and chip in points. With the wrong partner he is an absolute disaster defensively. Physically he can also bring it but it is few and far between (like with Edler). I don't think Myers is a 6 million dollar defenseman (the premium you pay in free agency) but can likely play well in the right situation and is a major upgrade over Gudbranson.
  3. To Dallas Eriksson @ 50% retained 2nd round pick 4th round pick To Vancouver Comeau 3rd round pick - With third line expectations at 3 million per year he could be welcomed back with open arms (not too unlike how Linden was when we traded for him) - Canucks get rid of the third year of Eriksson's contract - The reason this deal is expensive is because Comeau's contract is still relatively cheap and only for two years --- To Ottawa Eriksson 6th round pick To Vancouver Ryan $2.25M Retained - Ottawa saves $5.25M cash - Van saves 1 million per year cap space - Change of scenery (same length contracts) --- To Minnesota Loui Eriksson 2nd round pick 4th round pick To Vancouver Victor Rask 3rd round pick - Minnesota saves $3M cash - Van saves $2M / year cap space - Minnesota gets the more productive player, but Victor Rask is still young at 26 and could turn things around - Opens up Vancouver moving Sutter --- To Columbus Loui Eriksson Brandon Sutter @50% retained 2nd round pick To Vancouver Alexander Wennberg - Wennberg is earning 4.9M and came off of a two goal season - In three years Canucks save $1.1M and likely have a useful player on the roster in Wennberg - Wennberg's contract runs for four seasons - that fourth season is when Seth Jones becomes a free agent (Eriksson and Sutter off the books)
  4. He owns a restaurant in Peterborough, only a one-hour drive from where the Belleville Senators play (vs two hours from Toronto).
  5. Columbus is awesome. Really nice place, clean, safe, good restaurants, big enough to have entertainment but not too big where it has horrible congestion. Some nice architecture as well.
  6. Irony is there has been a lot around Salo coaching Juolevi in Finland, working with him in the offseason, and then coming over to the Canucks camp and they are both now known for the same thing: Injuries. I remember reading it had to do with his body language. I thought it was kind of a weird thing to point out until I saw it first hand when the Comets were playing the Marlies. Between whistles he looks like w child who got sent to his room during dinner. It is really odd.
  7. 28 more saves would have given you a career .900 save pct in the NHL
  8. We paid a second for Baertschi. The timing would be the equivalent of trading Pulijujarvi this season at the deadline after scoring 0 goals in 15 games and spending most of his time in the AHL. So I would expect the asking price is at least a 2nd.
  9. The risk for Minnesota is if they do become close to the cap ceiling within the next three years the Eriksson contract is much worse. But given the structure of the two teams (Canucks being financially risk and cap poor, Minnesota the opposite) and the players (Rask with the lower cap hit but owed less money) it is a huge win-win. Eriksson appears to be the better player, and any sort of bounce back (say 40 points) would look great for the Wild. Its a fairly low risk / low reward trade for both teams but the fit/upside seems to be worth it.
  10. Same with in Carolina. I read an article from the middle of the season saying they had to re-sign him. 39 games in he had 13 goals and 25 points. After that article he dropped off considerably - 4 goals 15 points in 32 games.
  11. I really wish you were right. The only Loui Eriksson trade that makes sense is for Victor Rask. VANCOUVER CANUCKS Operating Income: 37 Million (League Average 25 million) Cap Space: $6 million Remaining RFAs: Brock Boeser, Nikolay Goldobin MINNESOTA WILD Operating Income: $4.5 Million Cap Space: $11.3 Million Remaining RFAs: Kevin Fiala, Eriksson EK LOUI ERIKSSON Goals: 11 Points 29 Cap Hit: 6 Milllion $ Amount Remaining on Contract: 9 Million VICTOR RASK Goals: 3 Points: 9 Cap Hit: 4 Million $ Amount Remaining on Contract: 12 Million Friends with Jake Virtanen
  12. That is even worse - Eriksson at 50% retained still has negative value to a team near the cap.
  13. I think we still need to add. Edmonton would probably be more interested in Virtanen or Juolevi. Sutter might be hard to move for a player with value (Pulijujarvi is probably worth a 2nd right now) even at 50% retained.
  14. She was older if I remember correctly. Maybe the house was in their kid's name: https://torontosun.com/2016/05/12/311-million-vancouver-mansion-owned-by-student/wcm/36db7323-2e43-4a64-a518-9c0cafc7d9c6 I don't know the specific details other than my contractor being in shock that his rich client told him she was collecting welfare or some sort of subsidy (IE cheating the system). Before that even - I am guessing around 1998 my uncle talking about students from Hong Kong owning million dollar houses in west van and a lot of them sitting vacant etc. It has been going on for a long time.
  15. Yes. Haha back in 2002 a contractor working on my parents house said he did work in a mansion in Richmond. A lady with her one kid lived in it and she bragged about how she could collect welfare and other subsidies despite being rich. That is literally stealing out of our pockets
  16. Suing over $200,000 would be like one of us shmucks going to court to fight a $30 parking ticket
  17. Probably not paying any Canadian income tax and collecting low income benefits on top of that. These people drive up prices for the locals, contribute little to nothing to the local economy, and pay almost nothing in taxes. What kind of local can afford 20 million for a home? CEOs who create companies that bring jobs. Heck lets say Daniel Sedin bought a 20 million dollar home. He has likely paid over 30 million dollars in Canadian income taxes, donated millions to charity, and contributed to the success of a hockey team which had trickle down benefits for local restaurant and pub owners etc. This is a huge step in the right direction but not nearly enough in my opinion. One way to even the tax base would be based on Canadian income to home price at a 1 to 10 or 1 to 20 ratio (which is much more lenient than what you need to earn in order to qualify for a mortgage that size). If you can prove income was earned in Canada (or inherited money that was earned locally) there is no issue. In this example, to buy a 20 million dollar home you would have to show the money was earned in Canada or show an income of 2 million (this can include rental income as well). If someone doesn't claim any income, they would be responsible for paying the income tax equivalent to earning 2 million - here it would be $900K. It is ridiculous that a person earning in the highest tax bracket can't even afford the average home. This is kicking the crap out of our professional level works (doctors, engineers, etc) who can earn the same or more elsewhere and live very comfortably.
  18. I wish we could get him but neither team has any cap space.
  19. Offensive: 1- Hughes 2- Edler 3- Myers 4- Stecher 5- Benn 6- Tanev Defensive: 1- Stecher 2- Tanev 3- Edler (although Edler was better last year) 4- Benn 5- Myers 6- Hughes Physicality: 1- Benn 2- Myers 3- Edler 4- Stecher 5- Tanev 6- Hughes
  20. I am surprised he didn't get a contract offer from the Flyers last year
  21. This makes a lot of sense. Also factor in all three players deserved their contracts when they signed them - there is low risk, high reward as none of them can get much worse but could bounce back with a change of scenery. Also it is actually $10.5 in actual dollars going to the Senators and $20.5 going to the Canucks in your proposal. Need to account for the signing bonus. So the Senators save 10 million dollars and inch up closer to the cap floor. Not a bad idea for either side. I would have Ottawa retain 1.5 million per year. This gives us an extra 2.1 this year and evens out the cap hits moving forward. Ottawa still saves $5.5 million in cash while getting closer to the cap floor.
  22. He loves Vancouver but is a Toronto boy at heart. I think he goes to the Leafs unless he gets a much better offer elsewhere.
  23. Vancouver heavily shelters offensive guys with zone starts and low quality of competition. Throwing our Hughes and Myers with Boeser and Pettersson creates a high powered line that will be given a lot of opportunity to score. The only problem I have with sticking Benn and Tanev with Sutter & friends is the ability to exist the zone. So do you put Edler and Stecher there and deploy Benn/Tanev as a traditional bottom pairing ?
  24. From late last season to now Benning has done a good job upgrading the team: Miller replaces Granlund Hughes replaces Hutton Myers replaces Gudbranson Benn replaces Pouliot Pearson replaces Gagner/Spooner The sum of these moves is pretty significant. We got more offence, more skill, and come out as a tougher/more physical as well. Hughes is a massive boost to our offence, and JT Miller could also be a major difference maker up front. Myers actually has some offensive ability (unlike Gudbranson) and Benn is a clear upgrade on Pouliot. If Pearson plays anything like he did at the end of the season it looks like we have found a great linemate for Horvat. Now if we could move out Eriksson for 50% retained, trade Schaller, and maybe pick-up Ferland this team looks really solid.
