  1. Great he can identify good players I never doubted that but Benning's problem were elsewhere that brought the team down
  2. True but which genius GM decided to give a backup goalie a 1 year NMC in the first place ?
  3. I don't know the Canucks almost collapsed at the final 10 mins there. It's a win but they shouldn't have the Rangers back in the game.
  4. Miller is having a good game ... and what better place to play well than with the team trying to trade for him. Increasing his trade value
  5. Based on his wording he was very careful. He didn't condemn Putin but also wanted the war to stop. I'd say he took a more neutral side more than anything on this
  6. Well if not my word then current betting odds has Canucks at 10%. Concurrently Leafs have 9% chance of winning the cup this year. If people here think The Leafs aren't winning the cup they also have to believe Canucks aren't making the playoffs. Maybe if Canucks won a handful of one of games they lost earlier this season it would be a different story. But here we are
  7. Yep looks like he's going to fit right in the Canucks locker room
  8. People here talking about the Canucks playoff chances needs some advice from Matthew Broderick Looking at the numbers it would be almost impossible at this point.
  9. It doesn't seem like Overchkin wants this at all https://edition.cnn.com/2022/02/25/sport/ovechkin-nhl-war/index.html
  10. Additionally, I seriously doubt this invasion is popular among Russians. In fact I wouldn't bet consensus and majority there have reacted negatively towards it since we are seeing protests happening in Russia because of this. I know a lot of us here like to paint Russians with the same brush, but most are just regular people trying to live their own lives.
  11. I think my definition of playoff team is that the team or the core consistently appears in the Playoffs and not just one appearance and done which I think Vancouver was. I don't think my issue is with Benning not trading away Markstrom or Tanev and even trading for Toffoli. It's that there was no contingency plan in the offseason either resigning some of them or replacing them with equally good players. In theory Schmidt and Hamonic did that but that was a flop i think.
  12. To be honest I think Bo Horvat might have checked himself out already with the Canucks. I wouldn't blame him if he did. Years of poor management lead to this point
  13. So two things are you implying Canucks are a playoff team ? Because they are not And yes teams lose players in Free Agency every time but not the way Canucks lost all those players. And it's not so much losing all of them that hurt it was, besides Markstrom, there were no one to take their places.
  14. Don't you have to make it to the playoffs first before being considered as a playoff performer ?
  15. That's probably the reality and hey, he tried hand a GM and President, it didn't work out. He will probably get a job in a scouting position. The important thing is that he went out of his comfort zone and took the challenge. That takes a lot of courage. I just wished it wasn't with Vancouver
  16. That is the scary reality right? Detroit, LA Kings, and Anaheim are all going to surpass the Canucks after a shorter rebuild than Vancouver. I think when it's all said and done Benning's tenure as Canucks GM is basically that of failure. His only legacy now is the current core of the team and once that is retooled or dismantled by Rutherford. Benning would have nothing to show for his 8 years as GM.
  17. Injuries is now the next thing for top elite teams. Of course not on key positions like Goaltending. But it allows teams that are already good despite inquired in the Defense and Forward position to go over the cap.
  18. I just realized Kadri is at 111 pt pace according to Elite Prospects that's more than Matthews, Marner, Rantanen, Patrick Kane, Ovechkin and Tavares. He's going to demand 11 Million next season isn't he ?
  19. It does seem we haven't heard of the Sedins since the regime change. I wonder if they are getting along with the new management group. I
  20. To be fair I don't think Benning did either. And it's not a knock on him he will probably end up being a good AGM focusing on scouting or a head scout in the NHL again. But it did seem like he was out of his element and his folksy demeanor didn't fit the qualifications of running an NHL team. As I said before, he was trying to run a world class sports team like a mom and pop shop. Edit: And I feel like that is why Benning was hired in the first place. After the bad taste Gillis left on the team, having someone that was an anti-thesis of Gillis sounded like a good idea at the time.
