and i'd only do that retention if is was clear a trade with less to no retention simply was not possible

loui is worth at least 2 million to another team for what he brings (in real salary)

why can't we find a team with cap room that would do a trade where nucks only retained 33%

that extra 1 million in cap space could be very important

The year off the contract helps us immensely with signing Petey/Hughes.  We shouldn't be in the market for any big ticket guys until they're up for renewal anyway.  Cogliano would also be a useful player for us in the bottom six.
