    Imagine if losing these games are enough to cost Ovi a real shot at breaking the goals record...

      That’s another way to look at it too. Extra time off to rest up, put the extra work in to keep his endurance up etc.

      Ovi would have also missed the chance at more goals when the entire 2004-05 season was wiped out and the 2012-13 season was shortened to 48 games, both due to lockout.

       

      If he even had 40 goals in what would have been his rookie year (he had 52 in his actual rookie season) and 19 more in the shortened season (he scored 19 in the KHL while the NHL was locked out) he would be at 765 right now.

      i think gretzky endured work stoppages in his career

      why should ovi get uninterrupted service time

      get the goals record

      and everyone ignore that difference

      work stoppages impact all modern great players stats records

      just another issue they need to overcome
