The Canucks Will End Up Regretting Trading Samuelson

Samuelson is a great player. He is skilled, he can score goals, he can play on any line. That is a fact. The thing with the trade is that the Canucks are looking to get younger, faster, and have a player that can play with Kesler. Mind you Booth has yet to score a goal, but the Canucks have been better with Booth on the second line. A better second line gives the other three lines more room to play.

It was a winning trade on our end. Obviously Samuelson did not expect to get traded but he's still not even heathly enough to play at this point. Don't get me wrong, I liked Samuelson. But this trade gives Booth time to get in the groove himself. Look for Booth to score his first goal as a Canuck tonight.

Samuelsson - 34 years old, lots of playoff exerperience, but getting to the end of his career

Booth - 26 years old, solid, physical and talented top 6 forward that we've been looking for to play with Kesler, a possible franchise player thats signed long term

If we couldnt have gotten Booth, yeah id keep Sammy, but David Booth is too good to be true

Booth had his ups and downs last year but overall I really liked what I saw. I think he played much better than his numbers indicate. His start was slow but between his slow start and injury he was a beast.

He reminds me a bit of Forsberg in the way he plays, minus the playmaking ability. He is so strong and fast. A player with that combination is hard to find and can be absolutely deadly if they can put it all together. With more puck luck and a better play maker I think Booth could have scoring 23-25 goals given the chances he generated.

Samuelsson is getting old and slow. I really liked him his first year but he is on the decline.

I don't know if I'm the only one who shook his head in disbelief when Gillis pulled the trigger for David Booth.

Booth was a decent player pre-concussion(s) but he's not been the same player since and he's one concussion shy ending his career like Lafontaine & Kariya.

Even though Samuelson had some flaws I firmly believe his playoff experience alone would have made it worthwhile to keep him around.

I will go on the record to state this trade will eventually bite us in the butt when Booth ends up being a bust and end up being a non factor/fit.

To make things even worse is the fact Booth is making big bucks while Samuelson was on the last year of his deal.

If Booth some way miraculously ends up proving me wrong later down the road I'll eat crow.

But, for now this is not looking like how Gillis envisioned when he did the transaction with Florida.

I also believe Stuurm was given the short end of the stick.

Samuelsson sucks, still not regretting that at all. I'd way rather have a guy like Booth who just looks like he needs to work on his passing compared to a guy like Sammy who knows full well how the game should be played but is just plain greedy in sharing the puck and in playing a team game. Booth will be better this year in my opinion and can only improve in a far better hockey environment than what he has been in his whole career.
