[Report] - Jason Garrison : Canucks High On His List If Panthers Don't Resign Him

Recommended Posts

Let's sign Garrison, then trade Luongo/Raymond/Tanev/prospect for Hedman/prospect

Sedins - Burrows

Booth - Kesler - Higgins

Schroeder - Lapierre - Hansen

Volpatti - Malhotra - Kassian

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Edler - Hedman

Ballard - Garrison

Who knows what price. Your point about Garrison being a late bloomer suggests that MG will have to balance off his potential with Allen's proven record. Allen only being 31 also works for him as Van's young dmen on the Wolves could hopefully slide in as his contract expires. I would not be surprised to see Salo pack it in and Van goes with Bieksa, UFA, Tanev on the right side.

Guys cool your jets, he had 1 good year (only scored 33 points, most of his 16 goals were in the first half of the season) and is an undrafted defenceman.

This guy isn't that big or overly physical, which is what we really need. We've got enough puck-moving defencemen who make stupid defensive decisions - its time to get real and get some big physical shutdown defencemen. That's how you win the Cup: look at Boston, NY, NJD and LAK. All 4 have a defensive-first-based defence with maybe 1 or 2 offensive defencemen, the rest being all big and tough guys.

The Canucks on the otherhand have Hamhuis as our only real shutdown guy, the rest like Salo, Edler, Bieksa, Ballard and Tanev are relatively small, less physical and are scorers who were caught out of position and bowled over by big forwards like the Kings and Bruins'. Basically, we need more guys like Hamhuis/Mitchell/Seabrook etc. and less guys like Bieksa/Ballard/Tanev

You fail. Garrison is a defensive defenseman with a good shot who can make a good first pass. He's not a puck mover. I dunno who you think we need but we're not getting Ryan Suter - Garrison is exactly what you say we need.

A defenceman who can make a good first pass out of the zone is actually the definition of a "puck moving defenceman"

That is their job, getting the transition going and getting the puck onto the forwards sticks.

We can't fit him in without trading Ballard, Edler or Hamhius. Hamhius has a NTC, Ballard is likely immovable unless the cap floor dramatically goes up, so unless we are willing to move Edler, Garrison doesnt fit. We can only have 3 d that play the left side. We need to save our cap space for 2013 and land Weber.

Garrison plays the right side, i agree we should leave options for Weber next year but i dont think or want to see last years D. We need some upgrades on the back end and can't wait a year for Weber.

It pains me to say it but if Salo does want to come back im not sure there's room for him anymore, unless he wants to be the 6 or 7th Dman. If you can sign Garrison who is similar to Salo (big shot, well rounded etc) and 10 years younger it would be foolish not to, Gillis did say he wanted to get younger.

This is the funniest thing I have ever read. Last season Salo and Hamhuis were easily our best d-men. He definitely would not be a #7 but I could see him willing to play bottom pairing with less minutes. Salo is golden.

I've been watching this guy for a while now - he fits well into the Florida game plan because they encourage their defencemen to make risky passes and jump up in the rush. He is far from a shutdown defenceman along the likes of Seabrook, Willie Mitchell and Hamhuis and co. who play primarily solid defence and don't ever take dangerous pinches or jump up in the rush.

Garrison is constantly cheating offensively and joining the rush, and his great shot has lead to quite a few goals but he is far from solid defensively. This guy is just not the big guy we need to contain the giant forwards who have been ripping the league up lately.

Edler is a stud and can be a Lidstrom type player. That being said the only person worth replacing him with would be Weber. An Edler/Tanev package for Shea, then sign Garrison and Shultz. It would be great to see such a BC influenced back end...

Weber Bieksa= NASTY

Garrison, Hamhuis, Shultz, Alberts, and Rome adds a nice mix of offense and size/physical presence
