SAN JOSE – The Sharks appear to be moving closer towards trading left wing Ryane Clowe.

A source has informed CSNCalifornia.com that the Sharks have approached Clowe’s agent about the possibility of waiving his no-trade clause, and a deal could happen as soon as Sunday.

Boston, Montreal and the New York Rangers appear to be the most likely destinations. Sharks director of pro scouting John Ferguson, Jr. was in Philadelphia for the Bruins-Flyers game on Saturday afternoon. He flew to Montreal for the Canadiens-Rangers game later that day, according to RDS’ Ren Lavoie.

Ferguson also attended the Bruins’ home game with Montreal on Wednesday.

The Bruins are searching for other options up front after losing out on Jarome Iginla. According to an ESPN report, Sharks general manager Doug Wilson would like “a first round pick and another young asset.” The Bruins offered a first round pick and prospects Matt Bartkowski and Alexander Khokhlachev to Calgary for Iginla, but the future All-Star chose to go to Pittsburgh instead.

The Bruins, who were concerned about Clowe’s shoulder injury that recently kept him out for four games, have been scouting the Sharks heavily in recent weeks.

In 27 games this season, the 6-foot-2-inch, 225 pound Clowe has no goals and 11 assists and a team-high 77 penalty minutes. Clowe has the most shots (62) of any NHL player who has yet to register a goal this season.

Clowe is in the final year of a four-year, $14.5 million contract, and is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Glad to hear the Canucks aren't in the mix.

"Clowe’s shoulder injury that recently kept him out for four games".

Something's clearly up with Clowe. 27 games without a goal playing with that top 6 - that's enough to make me walk away and not look back.
