[Rumour] Florida Panthers GM ready to deal No. 2 NHL draft pick — for right offer

Recommended Posts

He is playing Poker with the other Gms Just seeing if some one will over pay. Florida will not be looking for prospects as they believe they are contenders right now if they add the right pieces that are already nhl ready. Florida needs D and goaltending so. Luongo, Tanev, rights to Derrick Roy 1st round pick 2013 would probably be what they want to just start the discussion. Would probably have to add a 2nd in 2014 and take back cap to get it done. Maybe To Van: 2nd overall, Cambell for Luongo,Tanev, rights to Derrick Roy, 1st round pick 2013, 2nd round pick 2014. Now Tampa we might be able to muster a deal there too. Edler, Schroeder, 1st round pick 2014, 3rd round pick 2014 for the 3rd overall. Then we could Have. Mackinnon, Drouin, Jensen, Gaunce, Kassian, Corrado as our future.

I have proposed this a few times here. If Colorado can be made to move their pick, you could trade the Colorado pick and 2 of our later round picks this year to Florida for the 2nd overall and one of their uber prospects in Bjugstad or Trochek. Barring that. Luongo, Edler 1st and 3rd this year Jensen and 2nd next year (Florida has a ton of center prospects) for their 2nd overall and Brian Campbell. That gets them cap relief size they don't have on the wing and extra picks. But....and here is the kicker. You could trade the Twins to Tampa in this, their last year for Lecavelier two 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick. why? Yzerman gets two top shelf forwards to win now, forwards with a ton of experience with Salo, Ohlund and Hedman. He also loses 7.7 million in annual cap. Gillis can debate to play or trade or even buyout Vinny. Put Campbell and Garrison back together and after next season do everything in his power to re-sign the Sedins with a revamped roster and possibly Drouin and Mackinnon to show for it. OK, you may not roast me to a crisp for this, but is you think about it...it is certainly not an overpayment on any of the three aforementioned teams parts, addresses the needs of all of them immediately and gives Florida and Tampa desperately needed cap relief and players now instead of yet more wait and see prospects with potential.

I also forgot to mention the following in regards to my previous proposal. MG is in deep water both with the fans and ownership. Fans are unhappy with the on ice product and mediocrity with promises of. We can do it from within. Ownership is unhappy that for the first time in over a decade there was empty seats in the building. GM's with their jobs and careers on the line do crazy things. Teams with money issues and cap woes do funny things. In this business anything is possible.

A lot of people here look at straight "hockey trades" as the only considerations, but in markets where they are loss-leaders, attractive proposals which allow their GM to save money, are even more attractive than people would think.

We effectively got David Booth for nothing, because FLA couldn't continue to take on his salary. In a similar right, they may be willing to move the 2nd overall Pick, and a cap-heavy player (Campbell/Upshall), to get valuable assets that contribute to their organization.

Luongo + Edler + Schroeder

for

Jovo + Matthias + 2nd Overall Pick

We're parting with 3 valuable assets, and we're getting 1 stellar asset back, a serviceable 3C, and a cap dump

Despite the school of thought that FLA has markstrom and doesn't want to take on an albatross contract, look at Campbell's contract and how valuable he is to that team. Luo would give them great goaltending in a no pressure market, and Edler is as reasonable a D contract in the league for someone not on an ELC/Bridge Deal.
