Czech national coach Alois Hadamczik has stepped down and David Krejci sheds some light as to why: “I thought we were all over the place. We didn’t even know what we were doing at some points.” The Czechs were a study in dysfunction during Sochi 2014. They managed just 2 wins amidst questionable player selection, illness and a curious distribution of ice time.

Here are the updated IIHF hockey World Rankings after Sochi 2014! The IIHF World Ranking is a tool to reflect the long-term quality of the countries' national team programme and is based on awarding points for positions in the last four IIHF World Championships and in the last Olympics. To enable the ranking to accurately reflect current form, the greatest importance is given to results of the last year's competition. The system uses a four-year cycle as the points earned in one year decline linearly within the next 3 years and in the 5th year results are dropped from the calculation altogether. You'll notice that Slovenia & Austria were not in the top 12 in the last rankings but earned a spot in the Olympics along with Latvia in qualifying tournaments leading up to the games!

They should have a World Cup tournament with all 30 teams! Top 2 teams get a bye past the first round, and then it's a March Madness style bracket. All games are single knockout.

That would be a great tournament!
