don't blame management or even the coaches for the drop in numbers by the players themselves maybe they overachieved in 2011 but this team as a whole from top to bottom has been inconsistent and has underachieved they should be fully capable of pushing for a playoff spot but when you got the bottom 6 and youth outplaying the vets on almost a nightly basis it's on those vets to play better you can sign and trade for whoever you want doesn't excuse the poor play of these players this season

people have blamed every single person on this team except the players themselves over the last couple of years maybe it's not the coaches or Gm's fault for this poor play inconsistency and underachieving

Of course the GM and coach are at fault.

The players are who they are. It's not like nobody knew what these players could or couldn't do. It's managements job to get the right type and mix of players on this team, and it's the coaches job to put the players he has in the best position to win.

I think MG has been running the team to the ground for years and it's not torts doing that we are missing the playoffs. Every year we look weaker and have only won a few playoff games in the last three years.

I do think the AV was not a bad regular season coach but that he was to stubborn to alter his game plan in the playoffs and was often out coached when the chips were on the line.

This is it exaclty, the team has been in decline for 3 years straight. AV would have been in tough this year. He might have gotten a bit more out of the team being that he has worked with them for 6 years, but not much. We needed change and couldn't do much playerwise last offseaon.

AV made the playoffs being part of the weakest division beating up on Calgary Edmonton Minnesota and Colorado

Guess what now Torts is in the toughest division with SJ Anaheim LA pretty much locks for 1st 2nd and 3rd for the forseeable future so the Canucks are now fighting for a wild card spot with teams like Phoenix Minnesota Dallas

also the yelling and swearing all the time is the overstatement of the year he has been way calmer this year and only had the 1 meltdown also the team has said nothing but praises for him he actually knows the heartbeat of this team which AV never did he knows who is going and who isn't adjusts icetime accordingly which AV never did he also knows when and where to use timeouts

bottom line this team was trending downwards long before the division change and long before the coaching change it's been a brutal season with very unlikely injuries which isn't too surprising cramming the schedule in an Olympic year it's been brutal on a lot of teams like Detroit Pittsburgh and Vancouver

Do you think it's any coincidence Edler and Hansen are BOTH having a TERRIBLE year under Torts? Nope. They hate him.

Best idea I've heard all day. Definitely doing this.

A guess at the odds... Canucks on Saturday probably ~1.91, Min v Pho ~1.80, Min v Kings ~1.57, Min v Hawks ~1.53...

$20 would pay $165. Done deal.

You forgot the Canucks Rangers ... closer to $300.

this board can pin it on the coach and management all they want which they have been the last 3-4 years at some point people need to start realizing the half cup effort and inconsistency by a lot of players on this team

Please, pull out the stats from the last three years ,would you? You can make yourself aware of the record.

This team was #1 in nearly every category three years ago.

It is now in the bottom of the league in shots,PP,GPG,Team Shooting %......

The buck stops with those paid the big $$ to make the decisions and they are the responsible party for the product on the ice-coaches and players and everything in between-the whole product.

Period.

Sucks we lost but the playoffs were a dream anyways. You cant play like they did in Jan and get away with it. Lets just hope we get a top 10 pick and the scouts do their jobs. Nice to see Matthias looking like a top end 3rd liner and Kassian is playing much better lately. Edler is looking a lot better too lately.

now heres the problem.

A.V literally made the playoffs under Mike Gillis for 6 straight years.

We decide to change coaches, and we miss the playoff totally? I think the coach is one of the huge reasons why we are about the miss the playoffs. Why? He keeps swearing the at the Canucks! you see him on the bench? All he's doing is yelling and screaming probably dropping F bombs at the Canucks! Our team does not need a coach like that! A.V never screams are drops the f bombs on a regular basis like Torts is doing! Coaching is one of the issues! We are screwed if Torts is back next season.

Best December in Club History, Remember that?

What's the big difference between the team in the 1st half and the team in the 2nd half?

Ummm...Give me a second

Jeopordy music playing in my head hmmm...

Oh Yeah!

INJURIES!

You can't blame the coach for Burrows' 30 injuries and zero confidence from them.

You can't blame the coach for Martin Hanzal injuring 3 players in one game.

You can't blame the coach for Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin getting freak leg injuries.

AV was going to be fired 5 years ago if not for Burrows Heroics against Carolina. He was going to be fired 3 years ago if not for Burrows Heroics against Chicago. Firing people isn't something you just do every season because that can screw up a team worse.

Injuries were a factor, but the rest of the team was hot garbage. They had enough skill to have at least one decent PP unit. Their powerplay was below 10% success rate.

Considering how many low scoring games the Canucks lost this year, even an average powerplay would have made the difference between winning and losing a lot of those games.

The coaching was not able to get enough production out of the rest of the lineup, and there were a lot of quality players left on the roster.

This Canucks team was so bad after Christmas, I doubt an AHL level squad would have been much worse.

So people believe that a guy could walk on water 2000 years ago, yet having hope for the Canucks to squeak into the playoffs is blasphemous?! It's highly unlikely we get in, borderline impossible. I think we all understand the odds.

How many of you have played sports at a high level? You don't play to lose, you play to win, no matter the odds. That's how you achieve greatness. What people don't understand is that players and coaches don't decide if we tank or not, the GM does. Teams decide if they become sellers and buyers at the trade deadline. Sellers = Tank , Buyers = Compete.

All we can do now as fans is cheer and hope for the highly unlikely. Or if you have coping issues you can simply give up to save yourself the trouble. Either way we're all Canucks.
