I think Ehlers fans have mental problems

There's been a lot of junior level scorers who never scored anything significant in the NHL.

Even some NHL goons, like Tom Sestito, were junior level scorers.

Junior level scoring is virtually meaningless. You have to look at whether he'll transfer that to the NHL. And you have to look at what else he brings to the table. If Ehlers isn't providing offense, what's he going to do?

I'm not even sure why I bother replying to you as you are a borderline troll. Some of your posts you come across as reasonable and level headed but then you come out with something so blatantly bias and troll worthly( such as your "scout rankings" of potential 6th picks).

Ehlers is one of the best PKers on the mooseheads, and is used in a lot of different situations. Admittedly, his board play needs work, but its not terrible by any means and will improve(and in fact has improved) as he continues to add to his frame. His ability to adapt to the North American game so quickly is very impressive to me, although it's a bit of a gamble to assume he can continue to progress at his rate, he is a very intriguing player. As I've stated before, if he had come over to North America a year sooner, he would be unquestionably a top 5 pick this year. He is an extremely fast learner and has shown a great attitude game in and game out. I swear if I didn't know he was a Euro I wouldn't be able to tell, except for his size(which is way overblown). Where as, your guy, Virtanen, is often criticized for taking shifts off and showing up when he wants to. The handful of games I watched(which are admittedly not enough to make a concise conclusion), he was invisible except for a few shifts. If you're questioning Ehlers ability to adapt from juniors to the pros, it should be the same for Virtanen just as much if not more. There are way more red flags. He's got size going for him and he dominated so obviously because of this, but he's also got a poor attitude and he's got a clear cut strength and size advantage over pretty much everyone he faces(how many guys hit people while carrying the puck at the nhl level?answer: none). I think comparison wise as far as WHL goes he compares style wise a lot to Evander Kane, but is no where near as dynamic as Kane and doesn't dominate anywhere like Kane did(And Kane is criticized as being one dimension at the NHL level). I like Virtanen a lot, don't get me wrong, but I would only feel comfortable if we traded down for him as aside from his amazing shot, skating ability and strength, he looks lost a lot of the times in the offensive zone with skill players(particularly on the cycle and PP).

You cant come in here and constantly knock Ehlers and then give Virtanen a free pass when the concerns are the same if not much greater IMO. More often than not Virtanen isn't even the most dominant player on his team, let alone his line, and goes entire games without contributing anything at all. A lot of the time the play dies on his stick if he's not able to snipe a goal or power his way around the D. For me, I have Ritchie ahead of Virtanen, and I hate using (INEC) but IMO its not. Ritchie is able to make plays and make something out of nothing a lot more than Virtanen seems to be able to. Ritchie is also a lot more consistent and shows soft hands and above average vision. Virtanen has age going for him and speed, but you can't teach hockey IQ and Virtanen seems to be lacking in this department. He's dangerous off the rush but if he's defended properly he circles the net and tries to stuff it everytime, or tries to force a pass into the slot. He simply lacks creativity and if it's a problem at the junior level, he's going to be restricted even more in the pros. As much as I hate to use Booth as a comparison, I feel in his prime, Booth is a fairly close representation of what Virtanen is. Obviously, thats still a very good player but not worthy of the highest pick we've had since the Sedins. Now if we were to trade Kesler and aquire Ottawa's 10th overall, I would be more than happy to take that risk as the potential is great. I feel we have a similar one dimensional player, albeit not nearly as dominate physically, in Nicklas Jensen.

For me it's razor thin between Ritchie and Ehlers and given the magnitude of this pick, I actually trust our scouts to do their due diligence on this pick and make the right call(crazy I know). Now if my pick from the start of the year (Dal Colle) happened to drop, I would be absolutely ecstatic but if not and if we don't trade up for the no1 overall, it's Ehlers all the way.

Wow that must have taken some time, thanks for that. Pretty much puts to rest the lazy argument that he's a product of drouin.

Also I've read on hf multiple times throughout the year that Halifax fans had to double check ehlers number because they thought he was drouin after a crazy play. I'm not saying he's as good as drouin, but considering drouin is a year older and no3 in a very deep draft that is quite the compliment.

Also a lot of the SH goals ehlers scored were from drouin, but a lot of the times he created the scoring opportunity by himself with his blazing speed(the ones I have seen anyways)

I'm not even sure why I bother replying to you as you are a borderline troll. Some of your posts you come across as reasonable and level headed but then you come out with something so blatantly bias and troll worthly( such as your "scout rankings" of potential 6th picks).

Ehlers is one of the best PKers on the mooseheads, and is used in a lot of different situations. Admittedly, his board play needs work, but its not terrible by any means and will improve(and in fact has improved) as he continues to add to his frame. His ability to adapt to the North American game so quickly is very impressive to me, although it's a bit of a gamble to assume he can continue to progress at his rate, he is a very intriguing player. As I've stated before, if he had come over to North America a year sooner, he would be unquestionably a top 5 pick this year. He is an extremely fast learner and has shown a great attitude game in and game out. I swear if I didn't know he was a Euro I wouldn't be able to tell, except for his size(which is way overblown). Where as, your guy, Virtanen, is often criticized for taking shifts off and showing up when he wants to. The handful of games I watched(which are admittedly not enough to make a concise conclusion), he was invisible except for a few shifts. If you're questioning Ehlers ability to adapt from juniors to the pros, it should be the same for Virtanen just as much if not more. There are way more red flags. He's got size going for him and he dominated so obviously because of this, but he's also got a poor attitude and he's got a clear cut strength and size advantage over pretty much everyone he faces(how many guys hit people while carrying the puck at the nhl level?answer: none). I think comparison wise as far as WHL goes he compares style wise a lot to Evander Kane, but is no where near as dynamic as Kane and doesn't dominate anywhere like Kane did(And Kane is criticized as being one dimension at the NHL level). I like Virtanen a lot, don't get me wrong, but I would only feel comfortable if we traded down for him as aside from his amazing shot, skating ability and strength, he looks lost a lot of the times in the offensive zone with skill players(particularly on the cycle and PP).

You cant come in here and constantly knock Ehlers and then give Virtanen a free pass when the concerns are the same if not much greater IMO. More often than not Virtanen isn't even the most dominant player on his team, let alone his line, and goes entire games without contributing anything at all. A lot of the time the play dies on his stick if he's not able to snipe a goal or power his way around the D. For me, I have Ritchie ahead of Virtanen, and I hate using (INEC) but IMO its not. Ritchie is able to make plays and make something out of nothing a lot more than Virtanen seems to be able to. Ritchie is also a lot more consistent and shows soft hands and above average vision. Virtanen has age going for him and speed, but you can't teach hockey IQ and Virtanen seems to be lacking in this department. He's dangerous off the rush but if he's defended properly he circles the net and tries to stuff it everytime, or tries to force a pass into the slot. He simply lacks creativity and if it's a problem at the junior level, he's going to be restricted even more in the pros. As much as I hate to use Booth as a comparison, I feel in his prime, Booth is a fairly close representation of what Virtanen is. Obviously, thats still a very good player but not worthy of the highest pick we've had since the Sedins. Now if we were to trade Kesler and aquire Ottawa's 10th overall, I would be more than happy to take that risk as the potential is great. I feel we have a similar one dimensional player, albeit not nearly as dominate physically, in Nicklas Jensen.

For me it's razor thin between Ritchie and Ehlers and given the magnitude of this pick, I actually trust our scouts to do their due diligence on this pick and make the right call(crazy I know). Now if my pick from the start of the year (Dal Colle) happened to drop, I would be absolutely ecstatic but if not and if we don't trade up for the no1 overall, it's Ehlers all the way.

Ehlers is not a PK-type guy at all. He is a physical non-factor and doesn't even back-check. He isn't adapting to the NA game at all. He plays a wide-open and floating puck-suck euro style and i'm shocked at how many people are blind to this. He's a featherweight and will get destroyed in the pros shift after shift. Thanks a lot for that!! However I still fail to see how he was involved in 50% of his points. It shows here that 31 of the points are connected to Drouin for a 30% rate not the 50% stated.

Also, I think the point needs to be brought up that a secondary assist should not count as a connection. After all, we can all agree a primary assist is usually fairly important (ie. one timer, cross ice pass) but a secondary assist? Maybe if the player sent a pass from the D zone to the blue line on a 2 on 1...but other than that, secondary assists are pretty pointless especially when we're talking about how much Drouin 'helped' Ehlers stats. I counted 11 secondary assists for Drouin. If you subtract the 11 from the 31 you have 20/104 points connected = 20% direct contribution from Drouin padding Ehlers stats. Therefore, assuming that Drouin wasn't in the lineup Ehlers could expect 84 points at a bare minimum. That's not including the fact that someone else could have scored/passed to Ehlers in Drouin's absence plus the expected increase in icetime. I think realistically he scores 95-100 points without Drouin.

Edit: actually 13 secondary assists so 18% direct contribution from Drouin

The overwhelming amount of points together are on the PP . I suspect you find that with any two players.

The key is the 25 points he scored in 17 games without Drouin in the line up. There is no concrete argument against that stat.

He played 63 games. 17 games is over 25% of his season.

A very famous case in point was when Daniel went out with an injury and Henrik had to play without him during that fateful 2010 year . Henrik played some 19 games without him and we found he could score without his brother proving he was a force in his own right. He went onto win the scoring title.

19 games out of 82 = 23% of the games.

Conclusively the hockey world found Henrik could score without Daniel, and just as conclusively Ehlers can score without Drouin.
