The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) - will anyone stop them?

I haven't seen the videos. I heard they don't actually show the beheading itself, just the before and after. I saw a picture of Foley's head laying on his back after they were done. What is the point of not filming the whole thing?

I think beheading is actually pretty hard to do eloquently. My guess is that they are murdering the people (probably with a bullet) and then sawing the head off the corpses and then cleaning the bodies. The whole point of these videos is propaganda. 10 minutes of a victim squirming around and cursing at his attacker while a poorly trained Islamist fumbles around with a knife trying to saw off a head probably wouldn't have the same effect.

They both show the knife going into their throats.

In the Foley video, as it fades, you hear a gurgling yelling noise just before they show the decapitated head laying on his own body. At the end of the video, they then show Sotloff on his knees while the British ISIS "soldier" has the back of Sotloff's shirt in his hand.

In Sotloff's video it is much the same, but instead of him making noise when the decapitation starts his one leg goes forward as if he's about to stand up. Then the video does the same thing as Foley's, they show Sotloff's decapitated head on top of his body. Then it ends with the same British ISIS "soldier" holding onto the UK reporter and threatening his life.

There are morons that are trying to say that it's fake. I'm sure ISIS doesn't have Hollywood caliber CGI abilities. Those videos are as real as it gets.

You are very very wrong except for the eloquent part. The way that these pieces of human garbage go about cutting the heads off of prisoners is pretty messed up. Even in their holy book it says that a knife should be sharp and large enough to do it quickly. These idiots use knives that are relatively small and seem to be not very sharp and they go about it as if they are sawing a piece of wood.

Because you don't actually see 'dead'.

Do you actually see someone die?

I actually see the knife going into their throats and in the case of the first video, you hear the actual death/dying gurgle before it cuts out.

Plenty of people love talking about sinister conspiracies, but it is in no way in ISIS's interests to keep any of them alive.

Send me a link in a PM, I can't find it.

Send me a link in a PM, I can't find it.

I'll send you a link to both. The second link has pictures of the men, women, and children decapitated and being bled to death as well as being crucified. It's really some messed up stuff that they are doing over in places like Mosul.

I went to Ogrish and came back disappointed. ISIS disappoints me with their censorship of important culinary work.

Do you want the links also? Fair warning though, seeing that kind of stuff will stick with you for a long time, especially the pictures below the second video.

ISIS has seriously pissed off the British and American.

Ya know I didn't support them when they invaded Iraq, Afghanistan, and toppling Lybia. I am sure hell glad they didn't interfere with Syria's situation at the time.

But the American's and British are going to send ground troops to destroy ISIS.

Ground troops in form of Delta force, British SAS special forces style.

They will go right into the Heart of ISIS "Stealth Style" or AKA, assassin creed style, (Please refer to the movie Munich, when Israel were sending in special forces to destroy the terrorist entity that killed off many Jewish Athletes from the 1970 Munich games.

The British SAS is regards as the number 1 special forces in the world. all special forces around the world got influenced by them.

Delta force is USA elite special forces unit.

Not sure if the JTF2 might be involved, (regarded by American Special forces as the best special forces on the planet) I will very proud of Canada if they were somehow involved, in secrecy since they are all about secrecy, that said that unit is too small to make any significant impact.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/sas-special-forces-forming-hunter-4097083

Elite British and US special forces troops are forming a hunter killer unit called Task Force Black – its orders: “Smash the Islamic State.”

The undercover warriors will aim to “cut the head off the snake” by hitting the command structure of the Islamist terror group responsible for a trail of atrocities across Iraq and Syria, reports the Sunday People.

PM David Cameron has told the SAS and UK spy agencies to direct all their resources at defeating IS after a video of US journalist James Foley being beheaded shocked the world.

British special forces will work with America’s Delta Force and Seal Team 6. The move sees a rebirth of top secret Task Force Black, which helped defeat al-Qaeda terrorists in Iraq .

This time the counter-terrorist experts will be targeting Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, leader of IS and now the world’s most wanted terrorist.

A source said: “We need to go into Syria and Iraq and kill as many IS members as we can. You can’t negotiate with these people.

“This is not a war of choice. They are cash rich and have a plentiful supply of arms. If we don’t go after them, they will soon come after us.

Danger: Terror leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

“In Iraq, Task Force Black was carrying out strike operations every night.

"It was an unrelenting, intelligence-led assault on al-Qaeda. It took a lot of hard work and no small amount of sacrifice – but it worked.

“Defeating IS cannot be done by air strikes alone. You have to get on the ground and take out the commanders – cut off the snake’s head.

“The organisation will then begin to collapse. IS targets civilians and has yet to get into a real fight with a modern Western military.

“The SAS and US special forces will do untold damage to them.

“They’ll focus on the high command. This is going to be a long campaign, probably lasting years.

“And it will be like nothing the West has ever had to confront before.”

The new task force will comprise a squadron of the SAS, special forces aircrews from the RAF and agents from MI5 and MI6.

The operation will be led by America’s CIA spy agency.

One of the first jobs will be to identify the British Muslim shown on an IS video released last week apparently cutting Foley’s head off with a knife.

UK intelligence sources confirmed that the killer, believed to be a British-born Pakistani from London, is already at the top of a CIA “kill list”.

ISIL-militants.jpg VIEW GALLERY

The bloodthirsty thug, dubbed “Jailer John”, was one of a brutal trio of Britons nicknamed “The Beatles” who guard IS kidnap victims.

Former IS captives said up to 20 foreigners are being held by IS.

The joint US/British unit will conduct strike operations against IS in both Syria and Iraq.

Troops will also train Kurdish Peshmerga fighters.

Prime Minister David Cameron and President Barack Obama are determined not to send large numbers of ground troops, so the use of small teams of special forces working with local militias is their only option.

Downing Street has revealed that Britain will send “non-lethal” equipment including night-vision equipment and body armour to Kurdish fighters this week.

Work has already begun creating a network of spies and informers who will supply Task Force Black with high-grade human intelligence.

British and US spy planes will eavesdrop on mobile phone calls and pinpoint the location of IS commanders.

Operations will also be mounted to snatch middle-ranking IS commanders for interrogation by CIA analysts.

US Navy Seals showed that intelligence gathered over years can be used to mount a kill operation when they shot dead Osama bin Laden in 2011.

The new task force plans similar surprise attacks in which sophisticated “silent” helicopters land troops.

The SAS, Seals and Delta Force worked together on many operations in Afghanistan and share intelligence.

One source said: “Intelligence will be key to our operations. We have to build a network to defeat a network.

"The brutal tactics of IS mean a lot of people want to see them gone.

“They have people fighting for them who are too frightened to leave.

"Young men joined IS believing they were fighting tyranny but what they saw was mass executions and beheadings.

“The CIA will offer them money and a new life – but they’ll have to deliver information first.”

There are also moves to revive a defunct Iraqi special forces unit called the Apostles, which was created by the first Task Force Black after the Iraq War.

Meanwhile Mr Cameron is under growing pressure over an alleged failure to deal with home-grown radicals.

Pictures of him surfing in Cornwall at the height of the crisis are said to have raised eyebrows even in his Cabinet.

Politicians of all parties urged action to stop radicalisation of young British Muslims and tougher restrictions on those peddling extremist views.

And there were renewed calls for security services to get greater powers to monitor extremists online.

It emerged that recommendations to toughen controls made five months ago by David Anderson QC, the Government’s own adviser on terrorism laws, have yet to be acted on.

In another move, Lieutenant General Sir Simon Mayall, the Government’s senior defence adviser on the Middle East, is being sent to liaise with Kurdish commanders.

so in the next few years... we will probably hear nothing about the progress task force black.... because the mission is in total secrecy....but yea.. I do want to hear ISIS get eradicated.

British SAS being the first "modern" special forces team doesn't make them the best. That's like saying the 6 original NHL teams are the best because they were the first.

Delta Force is elite, but the SEALS are considered the best of the best in the U.S., in particular SEAL team 6. That is mostly due to being adaptable to land and sea, whereas Delta Force is mainly a land unit.

The JTF2 is not considered the best on the planet by any other country besides the people in the Canadian armed forces.

If you were to ask France they would say that their BFST special forces are the best.

All of these special forces teams from different western countries basically use the same kind of tactics. The only difference you will find is difference in experience.

Special forces from the USA, Britain, and Canada have run roughshod all over Afghanistan and Iraq. Canada's JTF2 left Afghanistan 2 years ago. Experience is what counts and the special forces from all 3 countries have plenty.

Looks like Turkey is with the US now?

Female suicide bomber carries out attack against ISIS as Kurdish fighters repel assault on Syrian border town

Kurdish forces repelled an ISIS assault on the Syrian town of Kobani near the Turkish border, amid a battle for control of a strategic hilltop.

The militants entered an eastern district of the city and raised a flag but were forced to withdraw after less than an hour, Can Memis, a member of a pro-Kurdish party, said by phone from the border village of Behte. Fighting raged over the Mistenur hill east of Kobani, where a female Kurdish fighter blew herself up in a suicide attack against the jihadists late yesterday, the Kurdish Firat news agency reported.

At stake for the Kurds defending the town, also known as Ayn al-Arab, is the fate of the autonomous region they set up in 2013 as the Syrian government lost control of large swaths of territory to rebels during the civil war. Thousands have fled across the border into Turkey since the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham launched its offensive last month with tanks and heavy artillery to take the town defended by lightly armed Kurds.

The Kurds are determined to hold on to Kobani because they see Islamic State as trying to scatter the Kurdish population in order to weaken a future autonomous region

“The Kurds are determined to hold on to Kobani because they see Islamic State as trying to scatter the Kurdish population in order to weaken a future autonomous region,” said Theodore Karasik, director of research at the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis in Dubai. Islamic State want to capture Kobani “to cleanse” territory of groups that will resist its rule and to control the border, he said.

More than 45 fighters, including 27 Islamic State militants, died in the clashes yesterday around Kobani, according to the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is monitoring the conflict via local activists. The Observatory says that few civilians remain in the town.

The militants are seeking to expand their self-declared caliphate that stretches across much of northern Iraq and Syria. In a bid to stop their gains, fighter jets from Canada, the U.S. and their allies have struck ISIS positions in both countries. Kurdish leaders have accused the coalition, and Turkey, of not doing enough to save Kobani.

U.S. Central Command said in a statement that the coalition carried out nine strikes against ISIS targets in Syria and Iraq yesterday and the previous day. Warplanes struck areas around Kobani at about 2 a.m. local time, Ismail Kaplan, local head of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democracy Party, said by phone from the border town of Suruc.

As the fighting closed in on Kobani, Turkey ordered residents of some nearby border areas to leave for their own safety. Turkey has pledged to join the U.S.-led campaign against ISIS, without specifying what it will do. The government’s main goal in Syria has been the removal of President Bashar Al-Assad’s regime.

The Syrian Kurds fighting in Kobani have links to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, which has been fighting for autonomy in Turkey for three decades, and is classified as a terrorist group by Turkey and the U.S.

That “may partly explain the Turkish wait-and-see approach to this battle,” Paul Sullivan, a Middle East specialist at Georgetown University in Washington, said in response to e- mailed questions.

Turkish officials told the leader of the Syrian Kurdish fighters, Salih Muslim Mohamed, that they might give tacit approval for arms shipments to reach Kobani if the Kurds refrain from declaring an autonomous region in Syria and join the Free Syrian Army battling against Assad, Milliyet newspaper reported today, without saying where it got the information.

Kurdish politicians in Syria and Turkey have complained of a lack of international support, and say Turkey is seeking to quash the development of Kurdish self-rule in Syria.

Turkey is a joke. They have been supporting ISIS and other factions since the start of the civil war.

They can't get away with supporting both ISIS and other factions at the same time when they are all fighting one another. But Turkey has a lot to gain with the Syrian Kurds being severely weakened.

Turkey is a joke. They have been supporting ISIS and other factions since the start of the civil war.

It's all about removing Assad and oppressing the Kurds at least in Turkeys mind. They dont want to lose a chunk of their territory if the whole Kurdistan movement was to grow in momentum.. But the Turks also have a lot to lose if they're indeed supporting ISIS and other extremist groups because they control a small piece of territory within Syria where the founder of the Ottoman empire was buried.. They seem to really care about this area as there are active troops stationed at the burial site.. I dont understand why they didn't just move the burial site to Turkey..

ISIS has also threatened to take control of this area many times, but the Turkish troops stationed have repelled attacks..

Meddling in the affairs of other countries has been the defining characteristic of American international policy since WW2

It's also this policy that stands to, over time, de-legitimize American foreign policy and cause many in the first world who are allied with the US to wind up being alienated toward worse powers such as China and Russia.

Likewise, such a foreign policy is more of a danger to American citizens than the threat of terrorism ever has been. Americans are so overly sensitive to foreign dangers, which I don't blame them for (I ???? hate some of these barbaric cultures out in MENA, Africa, and some of Asia), because they do exist, but aren't doing enough to curtail the threat their own government is becoming, not only to their own freedoms, but to their economic future and safety.
