Phil_314 Posted February 16, 2015 Share Posted February 16, 2015 Vancouver acquires: - D Zach Bogosian Buffalo acquires: - D Luca Sbisa - G Eddie Lack - 3rd round pick (2016) Why Vancouver does it: - the team's top D-men regularly get punished physically by the other team's forwards, and to survive in our division we need to have physical D-men. Enter Zach, who's at worst a 2nd pairing D-man who can log big minutes and do well in physical playoff situations. He's also on 24 so he would be a solid piece to build around for the future along with Edler and Tanev. Also, if Markstrom comes onto the scene Eddie might be the odd man out, so why not give him the chance to start elsewhere? Why Buffalo does it: - They're rebuilding, and Zach wasn't having the best season before he joined them, so they would do it to get more futures and young roster pieces who would help. Luca's a legitimate NHL defender who is only 25 himself and has had games this season where he's played 20+ minutes, so he should be able to find a bigger role and grow with the young Sabres. Lack might be the main piece though, a young goalie who has handled starter duties before and he didn't do too poorly. With Buffalo, the other options are Neuvirth (3-15, 0.908 SV%) and Lindback (2-8, 0.875 SV%, 3.71 G.A.A.). Eddie won against Chicago, Winnipeg, the Isles, Pittsburgh and Anaheim, and this season those are all playoff teams. Lastly, the 3rd is another future asset for their rebuild. Thoughts? underrated Posted February 16, 2015 Share Posted February 16, 2015 Personally, I don't like this trade for either team. Bogosian never lived up to his hype coming into the league, but his contract says otherwise. He'd be our most expensive d-man, and probably our 4th or 5th best on the ice. As for Buffalo, as much as I'm not a Bogosian fan, he's better than Sbisa. Lack probably isn't there long-term solution since they'd throw him into the fire and destroy his value (similar to Enhroth). They'd rather keep a minute logger like Bogosian. There's going to be an influx of young raw talent coming in during the next 2 seasons. Now isn't the right time for the Sabres to bring in a goalie. The proverbial cup runneth over with Sabres goalies right now. Murray will be having a "wait and see" attitude.
