Haven't complained much about him, only became aware and was concerned of his skating, which you cannot ignore, (maybe you can at this time of development) which was greatly exposed during the tourney.

For sure, his skating definitely needs improvement. He is, however, young and has all sorts of time to bring it up to NHL standards.

With that said, his puck skills, passing, and shot make him one hell of a prospect to have.

I'm happy with his tourney, based on the lone fact that he played on the first line with Matthews for a good portion of the entire tournament. I don't think many players walk into their first WJC U-18 and play on the first line (I may be wrong). But that's an enticing piece to be excited about.

Btw my previous post wasn't necessarily directed towards you. Just fans that dissect a player too much and ignore the glaring positives.

I find Boeser an interesting prospect, not because for his skill set but because of the posibilities. He is over a PPG in his Freshman year at UND which is good on it's own, but he is also +21 which is 3rd best on the team. During the WJC he proved that he could play a role and play if effectively. Sure his 1 goal (could have had another but hit the cross bar) and 2 assist weren't overly impressive and he looked a bit slow out there but he could also be another Jake Virtanen in that he isn't NHL ready but is too good for Junior/the NCAA. That being said IF he signs a contract Boeser would be able to play in the AHL next year. Which IMO is going to be a very real possibility. He has a pro body, a pro game, and a pro shot the only thing he needs to work on is his skating. He could start in a 3rd line role with the Comets and work his way up the lineup as the season progresses. Very interested in seeing what Benning decides to do with Boeser, my guess would be he goes back to UND next year though.

I would think some of his production has to do with him playing with Schmaltz and Cagguila but from what I have seen most of his goals are for him creating a chance and burying it.

Also he as another assist today, to extend his point streak to 13 games

Woo! Keep it up Boeser. Gonna be a big strong two way scorer for the Canucks in the near future. Wont be the fastest but will be fast enough. Not sure who ends up being the better player in there respective career between Boeser and Konecny, although I have my opinion. Who cares though as Boeser fits what the team needs over a player like Konecny. The Boes is best!

The variety involved in his goals is awesome. Each of them is slightly different. It's great to see he scores dynamically, not from one spot only.

I'm continually impressed by his passing skills, too. He seems to have the right mind for hockey and hands to match. I don't think we should be overly concerned about his skating, though. He'll be fast enough to make up for it with smarts.

Konecny doesn't have the same shot, nor the same size, and has injury history.  There -- he lacks "several" things that Brock has.  Why are you even bothering comparing apples to oranges, which is completely pointless?  Nothing better to do?

Ya but he's Bo's cousin

so?

we didnt need center prospects.

We've got Horvat/McCann/Gaunce/etc and we'd create an unnecessary log-jam. Boeser fits our needs. A sniper.

Konecny will be a versatile player in the NHL. Can play C/W kills penalties, feisty, steps up in big games. Don't get me wrong i like Brock but Konecny is a heart and soul guy, a guy you need to win a cup

Boeser is also a player you need to win a cup. I agree however that Konency type players are really nice.

He's like a Dorsett with skill in every aspect of the game.

Easy there. For all we know konecny never plays more than 100 games in the NHL. There's plenty of heart and soul types who never made it.

He is on a on another level in terms of skill, he was a 1st OA pick in the OHL draft, not his fault he is on a crappy team. He is way better than dorsett

Gaunce was second overall in the OHL draft, that doesn't mean anything. I would be careful demening Konency a top 6 forwards. IMO he is a 3rd line centre with 2nd line upside.

As for "He is the type of player you need to win a cup" you are out to lunch with that statement

We'll see about that pal, again I'm not knocking boeser, ideally I would like both in our pool. But it's not a perfect world.

Jake Virtanen was drafted 1st round 1st overall in the WHL Bantam Draft. Just cause Konecny was drafted 1st OA in Junior doesn't mean he's going to surely be a player that'll get his NHL team a cup. Nobody knows if he'll ever make the NHL or at least be able to stay in it.

Same can be said for Virtanen, and every other NHL prospect out there.

Has this really become a "We should have drafted _______ instead of _______" thread?

FFS, I swear this team needs a better fanbase.

Incidentally, we already have "heart and soul" guys. We needed a sniper an we got one. Jesus.

Simmer, I like both players I wish we had both ok. Christ
