Terrorist Attack at Tunisian Vacation Resort

It's very subjective to a lot of people. I wanted to take the Trans-Siberian rail and my ex from Eastern Europe used to tell me you'll get robbed if not worse. But on the other hand she is always wanting to go to South America (like it is safer there).

I took that train, no problem. As long as you're not an idiot, you'll be fine. Unfortunately being an idiot comes naturally to too many...

Why is vacationing in the desert even popular? Have you been to Vegas or Phoenix during the summer?? It's the equivalent of being cooked alive. I met a couple from Phoenix that was vacationing in Hawaii....their reasoning was that 85-95 degrees is better than 110-120 degrees.

just to compare the UAE rules with Brazil´s rules

Importing goods

Importing pork products and pornography into the UAE is illegal. Videos, books, and magazines may be subject to scrutiny and may be censored.

as long you´re not with minor age or extremely offensive pornography (sex with minors/handicaped) and the pork product is industrialized ar checked nobody cares. if you bring your Plyboy magazine you´re not the only one doing this...

Drugs

There is zero tolerance for drugs-related offences. The penalties for drug trafficking, smuggling and possession, of even residual amounts, of drugs are severe. Sentences for drug trafficking can include the death penalty and possession of even the smallest amount of illegal drugs can lead to a minimum 4-year jail sentence. The Emirati authorities count the presence of drugs in the blood stream as possession. You should take care over the import of prescription drugs, some over-the-counter drugs and certain substances known as herbal highs, such as Spice or Space, which can include synthetic cannabinoids.

Many people stop off in UAE airports on their way to other destinations. UAE airports have excellent technology and security, so transiting passengers carrying even residual amounts of drugs are arrested.

same here. but here people are deported or arrested...

Alcohol

Non-Muslim residents can get a liquor licence to drink alcohol at home. These licences are valid only in the Emirate that issued the licence. Residents must also get a permit to be able to drink in licensed venues.

Alcoholic drinks are served in licensed hotels and clubs, but it is a punishable offence to drink, or to be under the influence of alcohol, in public. The legal age for drinking alcohol is 18 in Abu Dhabi (although a Ministry of Tourism by-law allows hotels to serve alcohol only to those over 21), and 21 in Dubai and the Northern Emirates (except Sharjah, where drinking alcohol is illegal).

Passengers in transit through the UAE under the influence of alcohol may also be arrested.

as long you´re not drunk when you pass on the customs you´re fine. the minimum age to buy alcoholic drinks is 18. but if you have 17 years and you´re with an older parent/relative with you that´s ok...

Electronic cigarettes

Electronic cigarettes are illegal in the UAE and are likely to be confiscated at the border.

nobody cares about this here. as long you don´t smoke inside the airport you´re fine

Dress code

Women should dress modestly when in public areas like shopping malls. Clothes should cover the tops of the arms and legs, and underwear should not be visible. Swimming attire should be worn only on beaches or at swimming pools.

"dress code" is only required inside military bases or governmental places (in both cases it can cause yoube arrested). other than that nobody cares....

Hotels

It is normal practice for hotels to take a photocopy of your passport or other ID. You can’t stay in a hotel if you’re under 18 years old and not accompanied by an adult.

as long you have an adult permission (if you´re below 18) you´re fine, hotels don´t require the copy of your passport or ID. they just register that on the hotel...

Offensive behaviour

Swearing or making rude gestures is considered an obscene act and offenders can be jailed or deported. Take particular care when dealing with the police and other officials.

Brazilians are naturally offensive by their/ours behaviours. the portuguese language is wierd and confusing, we swear more than Americans...

Public displays of affection are frowned upon, and there have been several arrests for kissing in public.

if you don´t show public affection with your family/friends in public people here will think you´re a terrorist...

Cross-dressing is illegal.

hein?

Relationships outside marriage

the only reason that Brazilians don´t convert to the Islamic religion is that "don´t drink beer on weekends" because the idea of being married with 6 woman is very interesting for people here...

Sex outside marriage is illegal and if any offenders are brought to the attention of the UAE authorities they run the risk of prosecution, imprisonment and/or a fine and deportation. Same sex marriages are not recognised.

Problems will be encountered if an unmarried woman gives birth in the UAE. These problems can range from a refusal to issue a birth certificate to arrest and imprisonment. To get a birth certificate from the UAE authorities, you must provide a marriage certificate. The registration authorities may compare the date of the marriage against the date of birth.

people from Middle East must feel really confused here. almost everything prohibited there is allowed here...

It is against the law to live together or to share the same hotel room with someone of the opposite sex to whom you are not married or closely related.
Homosexual relationships are illegal.

people from Middle East must feel really confused here. almost everything prohibited there is allowed here...

Buying property

If you want to buy property in the UAE, you should seek appropriate professional advice, as you would in the UK. A list of lawyers for Abu Dhabi and Dubai is available on the British Embassy website.

you can buy your property in Brazil in any place. as long you pay the taxes and fill the papers you´re done. and if you speak portuguese or spanish it´s even easier...

Financial crime

Financial crimes, including fraud, bouncing cheques (including post-dated and ‘security cheques’) and the non-payment of bills (including hotel bills) can often result in imprisonment and/or a fine. Bank accounts and other assets can also be frozen.
Bail is generally not available to non-residents of the UAE who are arrested for financial crimes. Those convicted will not generally be released from jail until the debt is paid or waived and they may even remain in jail after a debt has been paid if there is an outstanding sentence to be served.

same. but our Federal Police isn´t polite when they hit you...

Photography

Photography of certain government buildings and military installations is not allowed. Don’t photograph people without their permission. Men have been arrested for photographing women on beaches. Hobbies like bird watching and plane spotting, may be misunderstood - particularly near military sites, government buildings and airports. In February 2015, 3 British nationals were arrested while plane spotting at UAE airports. They were detained for 2 months.

just don´t take pictures inside military areas withour permission, or inside airports without permission. spotters are getting in trouble for this because they take photos, put online and the owner of the aircraft sue the spotter and the airport...

but take pictures with your Iphone it´s ok. nobody cares. and if you ask nice they will even bring you there to take the pictures...

But that is, of course, if I want to ignore the fact that their humidity blows. Already been to Disney World so there's no other reason to go to Florida.

Wow. The Keys are awesome. The everglades are awesome. Orlando is fantastic, especially if you have kids, Miami beach, The entire eastern part of Tampa bay is beautiful ( the actual bay, not the city lol) on the gulf coast. Go in the winter, you can catch a Lightning game for like $25 and avoid the humidity while its still warm enough.

Basically.
I mean, for anyone who is okay with those ridiculous rules, it should be a great place to visit.
I don't want to vacation under such strict rules though. Hence why I won't be going to any Muslim country any time soon.

I won't argue with that, you obviously like Florida a lot more than I do. :P

Yes Dubai says hi..

The same Dubai which has Sharia law. While probably the most lenient of Muslim jurisdictions, you still get jailed or worse if you: display any sort of homosexuality (one person was jailed because the handshake recipient called the guy's handshake homosexual), kiss your partner in public or hold their hand, criticize Hamas, drink booze in public and any unapproved area (basically only drink booze at your hotel because chances are high you'd get jailed everywhere else), eat in public during Ramadan, don't follow Sharia dress code, and the list goes on and on.

Blah Blah Blah, all this hate.

Like wtf man, have u been to dubai? Or talked to anyone that's living in Dubai?

I've been to Dubai and I have friends and family there. People hold each others hands I've seen people kiss before. Dubai is awesome.

What the hell do you think? That you'll be allowed to drink booze wherever the hell you want? IN A MUSLIM COUNTRY? Remember that is part of YOUR culture and YOUR way of life. Dubai has their laws and whoever goes there must follow them. Anyways there are bars all over the place and other designated areas where u can drink all the booze you want.

Non-Muslims can eat in Ramadan. They can eat in restaurants, cafes, and even there homes. I know cuz I've seen people do so. They just can't like walk around and eat In more public areas. It's called respect to customs.

Finally, the thing about homosexuality. Many people like to force the "freedom for homosexuals". There are laws in your countries that accept it. But in countries like dubai, they don't. Heck even in Israel it not legal. Why enforce western law on middle eastern countries. These countries don't accept Homosexuality and there right to make there own laws needs to be accepted. Just like westerners hate he idea of sharia law being enforced on them. The same goes vice versa.

Also, DON'T FOLLOW LOL SHARIA DRESS CODE? LOL Have you ever even seen a pic of ppl there? People wear normal clothes and stuff. You can even find some women in short shorts.

You obviously confuse information for people not to go there for disrespecting a country's customs. I would not go to a Muslim country and expect to be able to do all of the above. It is wiser to follow any customs of a country when visiting simply because it's respectful.

The hypersensitivity here is just overkill.

All of the above is correct. Ive visited Dubai once to stay with a friend who moved there from Vancouver in 2007. He has since moved to Abu Dhabi. The UAEs willingness to allow westerners to live there as they would at home is a big part of their plan to make their country THE place for international business in the middle east. A major financial hub along the lines of Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo. That wouldnt fly if western business men were being arrested for minor things every day.

100% disagreement. Canada has some of the most beautiful camping destinations in the world.

Depends on your hobbies and niches..

For some people camping isn't their ideal for fun and adventure, while for others it is.

I prefer to spend a few hours or so around Canadian camping destinations, and then leave before the bugs start settling in.

I like Mainland Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and India over places in the Middle East or Canada.

Dubai is a much better travel destination then anywhere in Canada for sure.

LOL

Dubai is a disneyland of arrogance and shortsightedness. I guess it is a better travel destination in that it will not exist for all that long so probably best to see it while you can lol.
