Who cares? If it's a gay pride parade, who cares about whatever perceived underlying causes are there. Either celebrate gay pride or don't.

And they don't need to "perceive" Muslims in a bad light, Muslim bigotry toward gays has spoken for itself. There should be no problem whatsoever with a gay pride parade in a Muslim area, in fact, it shouldn't be news at all, if it weren't for Muslim stupidity toward homosexuals, which for some reason liberals enjoy catering to and babying.

This report is way too short to capture the complexity of the situation. Being from Sweden I'll fill you in on a few things:

Sweden had a left wing gouvernment pretty much from 1920 to 1980, and we also avoided both WW1 and WW2. The money we saved by not blowing up our country, primarily in WW2 was used to build a strong infrastructure and create jobs. The money we saved by having an unemployment rate below 2 % was used on socialistic things, such as free school and university, five weeks of payed vacation annually, almost free health care, completely free dental for children under 20 and so on.

This ideology built on solidarity made Sweden accept a lot of immigrants especially from the Middle East. However we failed with the integration a bit; the society got pretty segregated, pretty much every major city has a district where most people are poor and almost everyone is some kind of immigrant, be it first or second generation. The fact that a lot of these people basically don't get any help in their job searching and that a lot of them are traoumatized from what's happened to them in their countries has lead to them feeling pretty alinated from the Swedish society. There are a lot of problems in these "slums" such as riots and such.

Getting a job is harder if your name is Muhammed than if it is Sven and in the past 15 years the social climate has gotten tougher in Sweden, leading up to the fact that The Sweden Democrats, a political party with its roots in the national socialistic ideology became the third largest party in this past election by blaming all problems on the immigrants.

Although Sweden as a whole is a very tolerant country (we were one of the first countries to legalize gay marriage and most people don't see homosexuality as an issue) a lot of immigrants from super homophobic countries and people on the far right wing aren't as tolerant.

The people planning this Pride Parade have many times in the past expressed homophobic things (such as calling a man loving another man the "wrong sexual preference") and many feel that the fact that they're organizing this has little to do with the acceptance of gays and more about creating a rift between Swedes and immigrants.

That's about what I figured. Struck me as professional trolling.

I believe you're missing my point....this is all irrelevant. If there IS a reaction to an event, it really doesn't matter who what why when how....if the point is to highlight intolerance and that is confirmed through the event, then it's served a purpose. Because we all have to be tolerant of others so it's never "wrong" to have a demonstration....or a "test" in that. Raising awareness is often the first step to bringing about change.

Sure, I do get a "don't poke the bear" thing but what gives one group the right to that buffer zone of intolerance? That you have to keep something at bay because of their beliefs (hint, we/you shouldn't). So even if it's all about making a point, it's a valid one?
