Post-Draft Interview with Thad Castle:

How do you feel about getting drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes?

"I'm honoured to be drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get picked earlier, I guess it was delusional for me to think I would be picked 1st overall. But I will do my best to improve my overall game and make a name for myself in the NHL. I've already signed up to workout with Gary Roberts and Steven Stamkos in the summers."

How do you feel about playing so close to your hometown?

"Yeah totally, I actually just bought a private jet to fly home after every game. Can't forget about family and friends. They'll be driving 2 hours to watch me play every home game. So the least I could do for them is bring them home safe and sound in 5 minutes or less. They have been supporting me on and off the ice since I put on skates at the age of 1."

What are your thoughts on players currently on the team?

"I haven't met with all of them yet, but I did find out I'm going to be roommates with Noah Hanifin on the road. We did spend a summer together working on our fundamentals. If I can work as hard as he does, I believe I will play in the NHL for a very long time. And we will run this league and accomplish our goal of winning the Stanley Cup."

What do you think about your former teammate Alex Moran being drafted into the NHL next season?

"Whichever team drafts him will be very surprised at the amount of skill Moran has. He has one of the most accurate shots I've ever seen. Plus his offensive awareness is off the charts. Wouldn't surprise me if he went top 10 in next year's draft."

Considering the Hurricanes just traded their 1st line centre, do you see yourself taking over the role as the team's #1 centre?

Absolutely! I may have been passed on by several teams in the NHL draft due to my strong fighting abilities and dirtiness, which underrated my offensive skills. But that doesn't mean I won't be effective. I will prove them wrong. I was nearly a PPG in every level I've played in. Sure I might get an extra penalty here and there, but I'm the guy you want in order to win a Cup. I will do it all. I will score, pass, hit, defend, fight, lead, and stand up for my teammates in the Red, Black, and White jerseys."

Finally, can you summarize the type of game you will be bringing to the Carolina Hurricanes this season?

"I believe will be a very effective 200ft player. I can use my size and skills to make room on the ice for my teammates to produce golden offensive opportunities. And also use my speed to make sure I'm everywhere on offense or defense. My old coaches tell me I'm the fastest skater they've ever seen for my size. And the training this summer with Stamkos will only help improve my shooting abilities. I firmly believe that I will ready for the NHL this fall."
