Blömqvist
To TBL D Erik Gudbranson ($3.5M cap hit and UFA at season's end) LW/RW Nikolay Goldobin ($0.866M cap hit through 2018/19 then RFA status) To VAN D Cal Foote RW Ryan Callahan ($5.8M cap hit through 2019/20 then UFA) Tampa Bay sees immediate and long-term cap relief with Gudbranson being cheaper than Callahan and a *key point* UFA at season's end. They also get a young winger Russian prospect with top-6 scorer potential. Gudbranson can play a top-4 role and fits in better age-wise with their core; he could easily be re-signed by the Lightning if they choose to do so. Goldobin is on his ELC and for another year and could thrive in the Tampa Bay organization with fellow Russians Kucherov, Namestnikov, Sergachev, and Vasilevsky. The cap relief from Callahan's contract will be huge for the Bolts as they have to negotiate new deals with Namestnikov this summer and Kucherov and Point next summer. The main piece for Vancouver is acquiring Cal Foote, a young right-hand shot defense prospect with size, skating ability, and hockey IQ who also has the potential to be at least a top-4 defenseman for us in the future. He is AHL eligible next year and could potentially step into the Canucks lineup then too. Both Foote and Callahan play a gritty meat and potatoes type of game. Callahan is tough to play against and is a heart and soul type of player. Would be a good fit playing alongside Sutter in a shutdown role for the remaining years of his contract. Asset management wise, the McCann-Gudbranson and Hansen-Goldobin trades end up looking like this: Vancouver sends out McCann + Hansen + VAN 2016 2nd + VAN 2016 4th Vancouver receives Foote + Callahan + FLA 2016 5th (Candella) + CAR 2017 5th (Gunnarsson) + CHI 2017 6th (Palmu)
Roger Neilsons Towel
I would hate to lose Gudbranson and give up on Goldobin so early, but that being said, to acquire Cal Foote I would do this deal in a heartbeat. Good proposal.
underrated
Callahan has been mentioned in a few proposals. While it's nice to include him for cap reasons, including him actually makes the deal a no-go. He has a NMC and no chance he'd waive it to go from a cup contender to a rebuilding team. flickyoursedin
Solid proposal for sure. Gets Tampa some cap relief on a bad Callahan contract so they don’t lose Namestnikov this summer.
John McClane
With VH being out a while for Tbay, that could make a deal like this very possible. Im not sure Goldy has it between the ears for the NHL. I’d be ok with this deal.
Drew.Doughty
callahan sucks but would still do this deal for Foote. Callahan gets injured every year. Just put him on the IR
Ghostsof1915
So we'd have Callahan and Eriksson? That's $11.8 Million tied up in two players. I like Foote, but not at that price.
ForsbergTheGreat
I like it but callahan has a NMC, he's playing in the best tax state, and is best friends with Girardi, on a cup favourite team. I'd have a hard time seeing him waive his clause to come to Vancouver.
Nuxfanabroad
Interesting..but IF we eat 800k for Lu, they should do that for this schmoe. TBay retains 800k & I'd press my famous Trade-Activate button.
JeremyCuddles
Callahan likely says no. Modified NTC next year, not sure what the details on it are though.

We are a rebuilding team so we don't need to be too too cap conscientious, however, and Foote would be a very stabilizing piece for us moving forward. I wonder if it's possible to engineer a two-step trade. Step 1: At the trade deadline To TBL Gudbranson *Future Considerations* To VAN Foote Step 2: In the offseason before free agency begins To TBL Goldobin To VAN Callahan End up with the same result but Callahan gets a shot at the Stanley Cup before his modified NTC kicks in.
