Lots to work with, here. Definitely expect Vitali Kravtsov to get a spot on our roster, and to a lesser extent (but likely) Kristian Vesalainen.

Biggest area to address will be defence. Once I get an idea of who’s hitting free agency (and to check out that list), that will be my first avenue to improve the backend. Then, it will be through trade.

So Edmonton draft;

#4 Alex Turcotte.   > Can't take much credit for how good Alex will be? We had to be bad to get a good player!

But we think we had a great draft.  The real work in advance acquiring 3 extra picks in the 2knd, one extra in the 3rd. Then reacquired a 4th. We had traded our own 4th in this draft last year for a 4th. Which became Ivan Morozov.  We missed out on Jack Rathbone & Emil Bemstrom. Secret cards. We did get two other mature age targets.

#32 Alex Romanov > 38th overall pick by Montreal 2018.

#36 Matthew Robertson >  A safe pick versus aggressive pick, possible 1st rounder?

#54 Nolan Foote > Actually the only pick we are nervous about. Pedigree, enough speed?  So many ratings above 54 where we got him though.

#61 Ilya Nikolayev > A favourite pick, creative, efficient & dangerous offensive player.

# 80 Yegor Spiridinov > The pivot to one of the top lines in the MHL this past year.

# 89 Martin Ferhervary > 19, he played SHL games FOUR seasons ago, barely 16, 1 Full SHL season this year, 3 WJC's & 2 WC's. A 2018 46th overall Wash.

#118 Albert Johansson > A lot of upside in Albert & a value pick late in the draft

We were going to take Dach 4th, until a few days ago. Dach did not seem that popular here. Maybe we dodged a bullet? It surprised. Dach available into the teens was one of the best picks in the draft IMO. I like him still! Picked Turcotte on work rates, he sticks his nose in the game, as well as scoring rates. Seems to me he will be a bigger winner.

Great day, and thanks all!

Personally I think Foote is one of the safer picks to at least make the nhl (aside from the top players of course). Getting him at 54 is a steal.

Habs Draft Results:

13th Pick: (traded in package to CGY for Bo Horvat, CGY selected Philip Broberg)

44th Pick: C Jamieson Rees

76th Pick: D Drew Helleson

90th Pick: D Nikita Okhotyuk

102nd Pick: C Karl Henriksson

123rd Pick: D Samuel Bolduc

A big day for the Habs franchise is complete! We made two trades, one of the blockbuster variety, and added some young skilled players via the draft. We needed to move some salary in order to afford some upcoming RFA contracts while keeping in mind that the cap is expected to only raise to $81.5-82m. We explored many options to do this, and when the opporutnity to bring in Bo Horvat, and his very team-friendly contract, to our group we felt that we couldn't pass it up. Strength up the middle wins you championships, and now with Bo joining Matt Duchene and Nolan Patrick as pivotswe feel that we have a very strong group to build around.

We also felt that moving our 1st round pick was an option this year as Claude Giroux and Erik Johnson are on expiring deals this coming year, so we're all in.

MSG NEWS

June 2019 Edition

The New York Rangers swung for the fences and punted a three pointer with nothing but net.

Entering the draft with our first round pick and 2 4th's the plan yesterday morning was to parlay that pick into as many selections as we can make in this very deep draft. I think we more than succeeded in that mission.

37th in the 2nd: Nicolas Robertson ~a great skater who blends quick acceleration with quicker edges

64th in the 3rd: Nikita Alexandrov ~a solid pivot who flashes high-level skill

74th in the 3rd: Aleksei Protas ~play has rocketed in the playoffs...ppg player...and looked terrific beside Leason

84th in the 3rd: Daniil Misyul ~a smooth skater who makes good decisions

94th in the 4th: Graeme Clarke ~a scintillating set of hands...

97th in the 4th: Marcus Kallionkieli ~a dangerous release and quick hands in front of the net

101st in the 4th: Yaroslav Likhachyov ~a real deep scout on this guy has me thinking big things in his future possible steal of the draft u heard it here first

We also landed via trade:

Michael Rasmussen

Mattias Janmark

Very proud to have landed all of these guys into our organization, top to bottom talent in each and every player. Really managed to stock the cupboard with this one, and we needed to. Bring on the real NHL draft so we can compare our prizes with where they end up playing!

Second, yeah let's not ever do that again  Weekends. Three PM starts :bored:

On to the Avs draft summary!

2hz7chs.jpg

First Round - We were pleased as punch to land Victor Soderstrom all the way down at 18. Another big piece in our getting incredibly deep, future D core.

bb_vsoderstrom_2018-10-22.jpeg

1.png Victor Söderström

An uber competitive two-way defenceman who thinks the game at the highest level, A naturally gifted skater, his ability to traverse all three zones is best described as smooth and effortless. He never looks disinterested and it's always apparent just how badly he wants to win. His vision and awareness is great, allowing him to play a responsible yet dynamic brand of hockey. He's a dangerous puck-carrier with a great shot. Defensively, he makes good decisions quickly and consistently, never looking out of place when pitted up against the other team's top players. He pressures the opposition and limits options, never getting in the way of his goalie.

This guy I want Vancouver to snag!

make it happen

To add to this. Just an FYI to everyone here. If the Canucks select Broberg at 10, he’s very much available.
