Which means Vegas will be forced to make a trade.  Possibly giving up an asset for cheap.

Yeah, Dadonov... to one of the 22 teams NOT on his list.  Maybe even Martinez since his modified NTC drops down to 12 teams by next year.  That's $10M+ in cap space right there.  The talk of Theodore being moved is about as stupid as the Canucks moving Hughes.

Isn't the QO for recently signed contracts the AAV?

Yup, I believe the new MOU has it at 120% of the AAV.  Not sure where the cutoff is though since this MOU is not retroactive.

not sure we can afford Petey at the end of his current deal either. If you thought Boeser's QO was bad, go look at Petey's.

QO rules have changed since the Meier contract.  It’s 120% of the AAV.  So it would be $8.82M.  Still pretty high.

Or pay to again try and move Dadonov - likely going to cost them significantly more now.  Guess need to wait till next season to know if that trade really made them better.

So basically Nashville is also out of the race for Miller.  Who else is left?  Carolina?  Florida?

At this rate we may not even get a first round pick for Miller...

You're right. No one in the league can afford Miller. I think he's probably out of the league in a years time unfortunately. Probably have to try for SHL. It's a shame for Miller and family that Russia is no longer an option. Maybe things will clear up by then. One can only hope. If not for J.T. at least for his wife and kids sake. :P

Not quite.  Was changed in July 2020.

The QO is equal to the last salary but at most 120% of the AAV.

If a player's AAV is 6M and his last salary is 7M - his QO is 7M and not 7.2M.  If a player's AAV is 6M but his last salary is 7.5M - his QO is capped at 7.2M.

So for Petey it would be the 120% of AAV.

There's already rumors that Shea Theodore might be the one made available to make room for Eichel this summer as they hope/assume Hague can take a step.

Anybody want Theodore for cheap?

Nah! We should probably extend a 30 year old to a retirement deal before our window is even open instead, and just continue to ignore the glaring issues on our D...

What you actually mean is does "Anybody want Dadonov or Martinez for cheap?" :P

it is. Is he likely to extend at that number, or want a raise? thats a tough place to begin from.

It'll probably be $9M+ AAV if he continues in his trajectory.  A 90pt 200ft 2-way centre in his prime?  That's worth $9M+, if not more.

sure if he lives up to it, but its another looming issue with the contracts Benning left us.

Eh, let's worry about it then.  If Petey becomes the player he's trending towards, it won't be a concern at all :)

I bring it up because its right when the so-called step back plan is supposed to be blossoming. Its a big issue coming up right at that time.

Don't agree. If EP doesn't take the next step and make questions like whether he's worth 9 mil irrelevant we're not going to be a contender.

Horvat, Demko and QH (and in my mind even OEL and Podz) are equally important in their own ways, but I don't think you can contend without a game breaking 1C and that's not Horvat or Miller however good they are.

what do you consider 'game breaking' to mean?

Either a player who makes the difference offensively more or less every game or someone who's just the best player on both ends of the ice (Bergeron, Zetterberg, O'Reilly etc).

The bubble playoffs gave an indication of the difference between EP/Horvat/Miller in this regard although all three had a really good playoffs and EP was still a bit too young and raw at that time (while still being the best of the three).

EP has been better the second half of the season, but still nowhere near where we need him to be imo and not close to his first two seasons.
